What about 1 Cor 1:13-17?

We don't know when Paul baptized. It could have been at the beginning out of tradition and common practice before the Church of God had become established. Also the context seems to be I don't teach this stuff and that's why he says I was not called to do this. And number 3 that comes to my mind is water is not mentioned.

In Acts 10, we read of Cornelius being baptized with water after receiving the Holy Spirit.  Cornelius and all with him that day received the Holy Spirit upon hearing and believing the gospel.  Cornelius was a devout man, but he needed to hear the message of the gospel.  The moment a person believes the gospel message and puts his/her faith in Jesus, the Holy Spirit comes into a person's heart, and he or she is born again. The story of Cornelius and the men at Ephesus (Acts 19) teach that we humans need to hear and believe the gospel and that at the moment of believing we receive the Holy Spirit.

Nowhere in Scripture are we told to be baptized  in or by the Spirit, or in any sense to seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:12–13 is the key passage in the Bible regarding the baptism of the Holy Spirit:

“For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free, and we were all given the one Spirit to drink”.  Notice that we “all” have been baptized by the Spirit all believers have received the baptism, synonymous with salvation, and it is not a special experience for only a few”.

Romans 6:3-5
Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.

But Matthew 28:19 commands us to be water baptized.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, “

Water baptism is a public testimony and confession of faith in identifying with Christ in his death, burial, and resurrection. But in order to truly testify, one must not only have faith in Jesus, (that is to believe) but also have been willing or at the least a desire to turn from all known sin (repent). Because the then visual testimony of water baptism is the public affirmation that the person has died to self and turning to a new life in Christ.

One thing I do want to point out in closing is that the Holy Spirit did not die for us, only Jesus died for us. So we are NOT baptized in the Holy Spirit, for He is already residing in our hearts the hour we first believed the message of the gospel.

Acts 10:48 does not say they were baptized in water. Water baptism is not taught in any of the Epistles written by Paul or any other Apostle. All that can be known for the Church of God concerning the gospel of Jesus Christ is in those Epistles. And water is not in there.

I grew up in the Churches of Christ and most don't consider others christians who haven't been water baptized.

I addressed this recently on my podcast on 'The Neptune Project.'

but really, here is something from Acts 16 that is interesting

31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. 33 At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized.

so something in this passage "They they spoke the word of the lord to him" was obviously important. Possibly a command in that WORD for baptism and something immediately that needed to be done....it obviously plays a role in fulfilling salvation by belief.

Now, i addressed this recently in the churches of christ in that I personally believe God can save someone without baptism, such as an elderly woman in a nursing home who can't get to a baptistry obviously.

but ordinarily, i don't teach belief without baptism as Jesus went through his baptism that being "the death burial and resurrection." remember, he said he had a baptism to undergo.

so we too out of respect for God (Jesus said, it is proper (respect) for us to do this) need to participate in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.

You are brilliant. I did not even know there was a chat room. I'm going to post something real nice in your honor.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
