I tried to read some of Heiser's books before but I didn't get very far to be honest.  I don't think they read very smoothly and I don't have the patience.  Plus I think some of his ideas are fringe.  I might check out that book you mentioned and see.

I think you may be referring to the Nephilim if I am not mistaken?  Again, this topic seems a bit dubious to me as different people have different interpretation of those passages in the Bible that mention it.

He is very easy to listen too. His scholarly works are difficult as he is a scholar. Try the videos. I think you will like them.

Well, hundreds of years of disinformation is hard to overcome. Augustine, and therefore the seminaries, do not like 'sons of God'  in Psalm 82. It is up to you to study and come to your own understanding. It is very important.

The core issue I see is whether our faith is in God Himself via relationship or in intellectual propositions we hold about God (including the Bible).

If our faith (i.e. trust and confidence) is in God Himself and is based in how He has revealed Himself to us in our lives and made us new creations in Christ, it is a relational type of trust like we might have in loved ones.   It will grow over time.

Yes, yup, you bet and Amen. Accent on an actual and very real relationship--this is what God wants. No Father sets a child adrift and unconnected. It makes me profoundly sad when folks make the Bible their God.

For me, this gets dangerously close to the idea that humans can be just like Jesus Christ.  Kind of Catholic, if you will.  Kind of New Age.  Not something I want to go near really.

What do you mean?  The Bible is the word of God isn't it?  It's not just an ordinary book.

Of course it is---please don't think that I have inferred anything else.

I am talking about a 'relationship' with the God of the Bible beyond a simple intellectual understanding of that bible.

I can study and fully grasp the manual for my refrigerator and never use the refrigerator.

Our God doesn't just want us to know about Him. He wants us to know Him. To trust Him, to talk to Him and to hear Him.

Are you saying that this relationship with God occurs outside of the Bible in some way, and if so, how?
