Protestant Movements

A good friend of mine, Believer in God like myself, we tend to always discuss the Word of God based upon general knowledge, finally asked me to attend Church Service with him and his family.   I gladly accepted and first thing this morning I was in the same Congregation he is a Deacon at.  When I walked in, I was greeted very warmly and handed a package that included some general information on how the church service would go, the order of Events, and information explaining the Beliefs of said Church Denomination.   

I was immediately alerted when I began reading [Open and Affirming] which then listed gender, race, status quo, same sex, gender identity, and a special highlighted portion for anyone who is classified as Immigrant.   By the time I had considered the information I just read, someone began speaking and led us to the 138 Psalms.   Trying to follow along as the entire Psalms 138 was being read, I realized the wording was much different than I had ever heard before.   So I took my mobile out and began looking at the several versions of Psalms and never could find it matching any of the Bibles I was aware of or what Google had listed.

But it was terms like Mother of and Her pertaining to God that made me start thinking what's going on here?

Anyways, the Service had finally ran its course and my friend and his family invited me to dinner and we enjoyed a wonderful late brunch.

During our time I asked subtle questions to not alert my friend I thought something was off or sketch.   And I really was amazed at some of their responses like thinking the Catholic Church, the most ungodly forsaken institution representing God, was to be considered a [Fire and Brimstone] Church.   Now me being Pentecostal, and having spent time observing Mass in a few Catholic Churches, this floored me at how the Catholic Church was being viewed as [Fire and Brimstone].  My experiences have enlightened me that sitting through Mass was equivalent to laying dead in a coffin and how that equaled [Fire and Brimstone] puzzled me.  But we finished eating and eventually parted to our separate abodes.

When I made it home, I immediately began to look up this Church, what Denomination was it affiliated with, and what Bible were they using.

According to what the search engine popped up, This Church, the United Church of Christ, claims to be Protestant and uses the Catholic Bible.

That confused me.   Why would a Protestant Church be using a Catholic Bible that puts emphasis on God being Mother of and Her?

 

So I ask, is that an oxymoron, claiming to be Protestant but using the Catholic Bible?

Maybe I am wrong here.

But I would be interested in the thoughts from my Brothers and Sisters here at Worthy
