Sabbath 8/3/19 Seventh Day Baptist Edgewater Minister Marie’s sermon “What Did Jesus Do to Make Decisions?” Matthew 4:1-11

We can learn some great things from Jesus to make great decisions for ourselves. Several times a day we are called to make decisions. Some are little and some are big life changing decisions. Some could be what’s for dinner or will I drive home drunk or will I decide to commit adultery. These decisions can make a big change in one’s life. Many people, when they reach a crossroad in their life, make a bad decision. Making good decisions in life can be hard and sometimes confusing.

Principles from Jesus for Decision Making

1)     Jesus Understood His Purpose:

We must know our goals and have a sense of purpose for our lives. In Luke 19:10 Jesus knew His purpose and knew what He was here for. Many people wanted to make Jesus a king to overthrow the Roman government. Jesus knew this was not part of His purpose so He didn’t do it. Jesus did not allow a hurried decision to make a change in His life purpose.

2)     Jesus Heeded God’s Word:

More than twenty times Jesus said “It is written” and He quoted scriptures from God’s Word, word for word.

*Vs 4 =   Jesus said it is written, man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeded out of the mouth of God.

*Vs 7 =   Jesus said it is written, thou shall not tempt the Lord thy God.

*Vs 10 = Jesus said it is written, thou shall worship God only.

When Satan came to tempt Jesus, Jesus used the Word of God to chase Satan off. Most bad decisions can be avoided by heeding and listening to God’s Word.

3)     Jesus Considered Others Before Himself:

Jesus would put other people’s needs first. Many times He healed the people’s sick children that were brought to him. Many of us feel tired but we must unselfishly help other people.

4)     Jesus Honored God’s Will:

Jesus said He did what God told Him to do. Whatever the Father told Jesus to say or do, that’s what He did. Jesus did and said the will of God. In many scriptures, Jesus said all that He was doing was what God had told Him to do. Jesus did as the Father willed Him to do. You will never go wrong by honoring God’s will.

5)     Jesus Spent a Lot of Time in Prayer to God:

Jesus went to God in prayer before He made decisions. We need to go to God in prayer before we make decisions. Don’t go to God AFTER we make a decision then ask God to bless it. Go to God in prayer BEFORE we make a decision because God knows what’s best for us.

AMEN

Do you remember when the disciples were walking along and sometimes they didn't always agree. We are called disciples of Jesus. But not to say Jesus himself. Jesus sets the righteous and true examples because he is the Son of God. We as people don't always know the right answers no matter how much we study. But we can work with however what and how much we can understand of the word of God and of God's will.

I am saying disciples but we also can both agree or disagree for various reasons and how we concluded the biblical translation or looking through the eyes of God aspect how he weighs in these matters. So therefore I say these things peacefully to you mizkjvonly. and not as a harsh quarrel. But perhaps some observations and my perspective how we at home study often.

I claim not any denomination of any church. There have been reasons I can explain later. I just share directly from the bible with no religious or divided denominational view. I'm learning from a Baptist board they were strict against me. Feeling so guilty I had to leave. I couldn't within this Baptist board express my true bible view. These baptists are strict and intolerable of other Christians like myself. So I may or not agree with the Baptist way of looking. I just agree with God from the bible alone.

2 Tim 3:16-17

16All Scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be perfected, thoroughly furnished to every good work.

I don't answer to a church but only unto God. Besides Baptists not accepting me Jehovah Witnesses did this to me long ago before I quit them also.

I read the Modern Kings James. Because the old Kings James was confusing our study abilities. The modern Kings James helps so much I don't need most help from other versions most of the time translation.

Concerning Jesus as being a king or not. Even at 13 Jesus knew he would not yet be the king of Judah or Israel. For they saw even at 13 he started to teach Joseph and Mary seen. Since they knew he was conceived of the Holy Spirit Son of God he was beginning his purpose. But officially according to the book of Numbers a priest is to be 30. Jesus began then his gospel ministry and gathering the disciples so it wasn't a decision whether to be an early king. Jesus already knew not yet. In fact in Acts they asked him about when the kingdom shall arrive. And Jesus said it's not for you to know neither of this time. But only my father knows the day and time. . Jesus knew his purpose when he realized he was the Son of God from that day. Which was early in his life . So it didn't have to do with making a careful decision. Others did think being a king was his purpose. Even the Roman rulers fear him at times thinking Jesus may form an army against them. Remember Jesus had multitudes following him often. That can be enough for a very large army. Even maybe some. . But Jesus told them he was to give his life. Not to fight for his life. . When others were hoping he would. Even the disciples didn't understand yet. .

So we don't make decisions always like Jesus. Because in many ways we still lack true understanding and aren't as connected to God as Jesus was. That makes us more like disciples not always doing right. Such as Simon Peter doubted Jesus a number of times. We are more like Simon Peter than Jesus way of thinking. We are trying to follow God as best as we can. But at times we also slip like Simon Peter did and others as well. . That's why we can't be in Jesus sandals or his authority or thinking. John the Baptist said I am not worthy even to carry his sandals. Be more like John the Baptist and be humble . .

I agree with following what is written. That is what I mostly do at home. I think of all scriptures as possible what should I think. What should I do. . This helps us at home more than anything else. We talk over what God want us to do.

But we pray randomly. Not for every decision. We do pray for everything that's on our mind when we do pray. . We do ask God to lead us the right way and to help us to understand.

Let a person choose their prayer time when they want to. Whether once a day or once a week. I believe God will always hear our prayers. We don't usually more than once a week and self prayer during the week alone. .

So I make most of my decisions trusting the Lord and listening to the bible with no church interference. The books we do read are often church pastors. But at least we gave them a say considering their biblical advise. I don't like churches that boss people around. That's why I kind of don't go anymore. Plus other reasons. I try to fellowship by writing to other Christians online. .

So please not to think I was attacking you or your posts. But those at that Baptist board didn't seem to like me from the get go. They're strict all the way around. They have separate room for themselves. Making other Christians post elsewhere. I don't like that division. So I left. . So I hope you as a Baptist will be fair and allow that I have a view on the bible. . I hope we can get along. I want things to be peaceful here like George says. I don't think your always is wrong. More I say of a preference it seems you may pray more. I may pray less. But several days a week we study the bible. My decisions has been a lot about the bible and prayer at random. I don't always pray before decisions. But at least I believe God will hear them even if our timing is not right.

As apostle Paul says some have more faith and others less. Some perhaps may pray more and others less. I let each person determine their own prayer times. It's not worth scuffling over it. As long as people pray that all that really counts to God. I can't always be right but I know God is always right. And even if there is some disagreement remember the disciples also did disagree. So miz let us keep fellowship as true friends here. No hard feelings please. your friend tshield

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
