Something interesting popped up in the news this morning that may indicate the hurricane damage is going to have more of an impact than expected.

What was that?

Well, I was watching the Morning Edition of the local news - where the anchors receive faxes and e-mails from viewers.

Several e-mails, it turns out, were from local residents feeling disgruntled over the apparant callousness from the rest of the world towards the needs in the hurricane ravished areas.

Viewers were admiting that, yes, the US is use to taking care of itself, but it's the thought that counts.

After the tsunami in Asia, response was immidiate from around the world. But as the US deals with what is being called it's greatest natural disaster, is anyone even asking if the US could use some help?

One of the news anchors predicted that if this local reaction reflects that of the nation, the US's attitude towards the other nations might shift to the negative severely.

Not trying to start a fight here, but it will be interesting to see if and how this carries out.

Think people are jumping to conclusions, or that there might be something here?

Actually, as great as the US is, nations like India or China would be able to offer us more aid in the form of flood relief workers and equipment. Flooding of this size, while not an every year occurance, happens more often in those nations than it does here. India, China, and others are sometimes better equipped, or at least better trained, on how to deal with these floods.

From what I've seen though, no one has offered to help. We can handle it on our own, we don't need anyone else...but it sure would be nice to at least have the offer.

I agree, it would be nice for them to offer. Like you said SJ

We can handle it on our own, we don't need anyone else

They probably are thinking the same thing.

We want to give to the relief of these victims of Katrina, but we are not sure the best avenue for those gifts. We hear so many stories of money not getting to the victims, so I'm just wondering if anyone knows the best agency to give to.

So where is at least the offer for aid from other countries? Hmmmmm ...ladeda tic toc tic toc tic tok. You know...like some of the countries the USA went out of it's way for in the past. Not that we really need it, but the offer would be nice. When your the big kid on the block, all the other kids love it when you fall even though they will never admitt it. Some stupid German official and Joe (silver spoon) Kennedy even blamed this storm on Bush because he didn't sign the Keoto treaty. I knew it wouldn't take long for the idiocy to start. Anyways, New Orleans is a sister city to my city and I have spent much time their and I know they will bounce back.

God Bless America and the "Big Easy"

Dan

It is definitely a terrible situation. While I certainly sympathize with the plight of those in trouble due to the hurricane and pray for them in their hour of need, what I pray for most is that they could repent and be restored to God. God can help the innocent who live there and give them miraculous assistance but New Orleans is not famous for a godly lifestyle. I would hope that the people would be able to find God when they are desperate and have no other way out. I would pray that the people rebound without the casinos, bars, houses of prostitution etc, etc that makes New Orleans an attractive vacation spot for those not interested in finding God.

As far as getting offers of international aid, I think that most countries think that we are so independent and rich that we don't need it. We can't worry about that or even feel bad at them for thinking that. A lot of countries did pitch in and offer help after 9/11. That the situation in New Orleans worsened was a surprise to most everyone. We have to ask ourselves though, Why did God allow it? He always wants the best for each and every individual. Sometimes His best hurts our selfish lives. His best means that He wants us to get rid of that which is causing us to lose out with Him. You know, sort of like how fire cleanses the earth. I really don't mean to sound crass and uncaring. I just hope that goodness can revive down there and that the people can turn away from all the loose morality. In the place of the casinos and bars etc, why don't we pray that God takes root in that place after all this?

We all can learn from this. 1 Ch 7:14 says, If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. God can do it. The governor of Louisiana has asked that people spend this day in prayer. Why don't we pray for that?

After watching all the looting going on - even by the police - I fear goodness isn't taking hold.

I guess bourbon (street) and water don't mix that well after all.

On a different thread, I just read about a thing called Southern Decadence Day which was supposed to be in New Orleans on Labor day. Do we still need to ask why this happened? I'm sorry. God is fed up with stuff like that. How long does He have to suffer garbage like that?
