The Levitical High Priest Dressing represents "The Woman", that is dressed in purple, scarlet, gold, and precious stones as seen below

(Revelation) 17:4KJV
4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:

Yes "The Woman", The Levitical High Priest, Dressed In Purple, Scarlet, Gold, And Precious Stones

(Exodus) 28:15-20KJV
15 And thou shalt make the breastplate of judgment with cunning work; after the work of the ephod thou shalt make it; of gold, of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, and of fine twined linen, shalt thou make it.
16 Foursquare it shall be being doubled; a span shall be the length thereof, and a span shall be the breadth thereof.
17 And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even four rows of stones: the first row shall be a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle: this shall be the first row.
18 And the second row shall be an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond.
19 And the third row a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst.
20 And the fourth row a beryl, and an onyx, and a jasper: they shall be set in gold in their inclosings.

(Jerusalem) is the seven Mount city, where the woman sits, not Rome as many falsely claim.

(Revelation) 17:9KJV
9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.

List of cities claimed to be built on seven hills - Wikipedia
Jerusalem, Israel: Jerusalem's seven hills are Mount Scopus, Mount Olivet and the Mount of Corruption (all three are peaks in a mountain ridge that lies east of the Old City), Mount Ophel, the original Mount Zion, the New Mount Zion and the hill on which the Antonia Fortress was built.

The Roman Empire didnt exist to be guilty of the Prophets blood seen below, Jerusalem did.

(Revelation) 18:24KJV
24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.

(Matthew) 23:29-37KJV
29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:
35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

Jerusalem (The Woman) that (Great City) as seen below, Jerusalem where Jesus Christ was crucified

Revelation 17:18AKJV

18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

Revelation 11:8AKJV

8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.

Jews/Hebrews cast dust upon their heads, weeping for the (Great City) Jerusalem

Revelation 18:19AKJV

19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

Good morning,

I wholeheartedly disagree for a number of obvious reasons to lengthy to detail right now. The apostle John and other scripture in the Bible, makes it clear who this mystery whore of Babylon (ecumenical) is, and it's not Jerusalem.

Jerusalem is a cup of trembling in the world, and has needs. They are not represented in every nation, and so much more.

If you would like a detailed comparison that shreds that theory to pieces, let me know.

You'll regret that, here's my notes, more than you bargained for:

17:1-17 The whore of the Babylonian religion (ecclesiastical - religious Babylon). The fall of the One World Religious System. This chapter describes ‘the whore of the Babylon religion system’. It is a church-state system somewhat like the system started with Constantine in 4th century Rome, but on steroids. Its origin was established by Nimrod at the Tower of Babel, filtered down through the ages, and continues to this day with the Roman Catholic Church.

We will see the woman sitting on the Beast [riding or controlling him for a time]; the religious system controlling the political system for a time in history, and will again soon [Genesis chapters 10 & 11 are its beginnings].

The political side [Antichrist & kings of the earth] will grow annoyed at her and destroy her and want complete control. The dubbed “one true church” (RCC) has tortured and murdered hundreds of thousands of true born-again believers during the inquisitions, crusades, in the dark ages. Today Catholicism is the globe's largest religion, with 1.4 billion adherents, and established in virtually every nation on earth (many waters vs. 1); she has global influence. “History always repeats itself; there’s nothing new under the sun”.[1]

                                Mystery of Babylon the Great

Beginning with this chapter we find a record of the final doom of the enemies of God. They are seven in number and are as follows:

1. The Doom of the Antichrist’s Church (17:1–18).

2. The Doom of Commercial Babylon (18:1–24).

3. The Doom of the Beast and False Prophet (19:20).

4. The Doom of the Antichristian Nations (19:21).

5. The Doom of Gog and Magog (20:9).

6. The Doom of Satan (20:10).

7. The Doom of the Wicked (20:11–15).

The Doom of the Antichrist’s Church

17:1-2 One of the seven “vial angels” talked with John and said, “Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.”

These verses are explained in the succeeding passages so we shall look to them for clarification of terms.

17:3 “So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: [desert; a place devoid of the Holy Spirit’s presence] and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy [completely wicked], having seven heads and ten horns.” (See verses 9–12 for the explanation.)

17:4-5 “And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.” The names of the woman are given and they are Mystery, Babylon the Great, The Mother of Harlots, and Abominations of the Earth (cf. Isaiah 47:1–15).

Here we have another of Antichrist’s counterfeits. Christ’s bride was a “mystery” because the Church of the New Testament was not known to the Old Testament patriarchs and prophets. This mystery was first revealed to Paul (that the church was to be the Bride of Christ) in Ephesians 5:23–32. The mystery that the Antichrist was to have a bride was first revealed to John on the Isle of Patmos in this passage. The name of Christ’s Bride is given in Revelation 21:9–10 by one of the seven “vial” angels. Note that the angel showed John “that great city, the holy Jerusalem …” as the Bride of Christ. In Revelation 17:5, The “Great Babylon” is shown to be the Bride of Antichrist.

The question is raised, “How can a city be called a Bride?” The answer from the foregoing is that the inhabitants, and not the political organization itself, make up the bride in each instance. “Mystery Babylon,” the Bride of the Antichrist, is made up of those who took the mark of the Beast and who worshiped under the system of the Beast and False Prophet. The “Bride of Christ” or the “New Jerusalem” is composed of all the regenerated followers of Christ.

According to historical accounts, the Babylonian cult, a system claiming to possess the highest wisdom and to reveal the most divine secrets, came into existence soon after the destruction of the Tower of Babel (Genesis 10–11). To be initiated into this cult, one had to confess to a priest, and place himself under the power of the priest. Once admitted into this order, men surrendered their national identity and became members of a mystical brotherhood. Over this mystical union was a “pontiff” or high priest. Babylon was the original seat of this brotherhood until her fall when the seat was shifted to Pergamos in Asia Minor.

When Attalus, the pontiff of the mystical brotherhood, died in 133 B.C., he bequeathed the headship of the “Babylonian Priesthood” to Rome. The emperors of Rome continued as pontiffs until A.D. 376 when Gratius, a Christian, refused it. The Bishop of the Church of Rome, Damascus, was then elected to the position so that in A.D. 378 the head of the “Babylonian Order” became the “Ruler of the Roman Church.” Thus, Satan united Rome and Babylon in one religious' system.

This union gave rise to many of the “rites” of Babylon as part of the ritual of the Roman Church. In A.D. 381 the worship of the Virgin Mary was instituted. The decree for the observance of Easter was given in A.D. 519 and was a festival in honor of Ishtar, a Babylonian goddess. The order of “nuns” was taken from the practice of the “vestal virgins” of pagan Rome. The name “Mystery” describes further the papal church for she has shrouded herself in mystery. The mystery of Baptismal Regeneration; of Transubstantiation; of Holy Water; and the Lights on the Altar were all kept as mysteries and the papal church makes no effort to explain them to the members of the church.

A further description of the woman gives additional proof that the Antichrist’s church is the papal church.

[1] Dennis commentary

The colors of the papacy are purple and scarlet. Certain garments are specified for the Pope to wear when he is installed. Five of these are scarlet!

17:6 “And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus.…”

One has only to read this history of the persecution of the early Christians, especially the story of the inquisitions in papal lands, to see that the papal church has been drunk with the blood of saints. She will add to her infamy by slaughtering the righteous during the reign of Antichrist. (Could this be the scourge heading toward Israel?)

< BEWARE OF WOLF IN SHEEP CLOTHING

No doubt this woman sitting on the scarlet-colored beast is the papal church who will be the church or bride of Antichrist. Some facts about her position in Antichrist’s regime are as follows:

1. The fact that she sits on the scarlet-colored beast (Antichrist) reveals the fact that the Woman, as the State Church, will control and rule the State and will thus fulfill the long-standing aim of the papal church to gain worldwide supremacy once again. After the true Church is taken out of the world the false or papal church will remain and the professing body of Christians left behind will enter the papal, or Antichrist Church. This will be a church “having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.” This will be a universal Church, as indicated in verse 15, “The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth [see verse 1], are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.”

2. Her close alliance with the Beast also indicates from whence the support and power of the Woman (Antichrist Church) will come.

3. The Woman and the Antichrist are not the same but are separate. Therefore, the Pope is not the Antichrist.

Now let us see the destruction of the Woman, the Bride of Antichrist.

17:3 The false church will continue for only a short time. When the ten kings of the Antichrist’s Federated Kingdom find that their power is curtailed and threatened by the Woman (the Papal Church), they shall hate the whore, strip her of all her gorgeous apparel, confiscate her tremendous wealth (eat her flesh), and burn her churches and cathedrals with fire. This is the meaning of verse 16: “And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and burn her with fire.”

17:17 “For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.”

God is going to use the Antichrist and his ten cohorts of the Federated Kingdom to bring about His purpose and plan and to complete His program of judgment. How mighty is our God that even the wrath of sinful man can further His plans and purposes!

To get back into verse sequence:

17:6-7 As mentioned above and in other notes; the Roman Catholic Church is already drunk with the blood of the saints, with her centuries-long murder and persecution of born-again believers; during the inquisitions and crusades in the dark ages. It’s going to happen again, and it may even start before the official start of the Tribulation?[1]

THE Ecumenical Pope

ECUMENICISM

Pope Francis is having great success with his global ecumenical movement and collaborations. Francis has held collective meetings in Rome with most of the world’s religions, and publicly declared, “we all serve and worship the very same god, called by different names.” This Pope has signed letters of agreement with various Muslim sects.

17:7 Notice the Beast is carrying her; in other words, she [the false religious system] is riding him; or in charge temporarily.

17:8 The beast as an empire goes through four stages, from the viewpoint of the beginning of the Tribulation. (1) It was, that is, it existed in the form of the ancient Roman Empire. (2) It is not, that is, it has not existed as an empire since the fifth century and will not exist again until the Antichrist gains worldwide authority during the Tribulation period. (3) It shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, that is, Satan will raise the Antichrist as his false messiah and give him worldwide rule (cf. 11:7; 13:3). And (4) the Antichrist will be cast into perdition, the lake of fire. Unbelievers will wonder in amazement.

It’s interesting to observe here once again: That only “two” people in the Bible are said to be “sons of perdition,” Antichrist and Judas Iscariot.

John 17:12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition

PERDITION. This English word never appears in the OT. The Gr. word apōleia appears 19 times in the N.T. and is translated by six different expressions in the KJV: damnable, damnation, destruction, perdition (eight times), pernicious way, waste. The word means destruction, the direct antithesis of salvation (sōtēria) and its blessedness (Phil 1:28). It has special reference to the wicked, either as to their expected fate (Jn 17:12; Phil 1:28), or their present lost and ruined condition (1 Tim 6:9; Heb 10:39), or the time of their judgment and destruction (2 Pet 3:7), or the place where ruined humanity is finally confined (Rev 17:8, 11).

The term “son of perdition” appears twice in the NT, once of Judas Iscariot (Jn 17:12), and once of Antichrist (2 Thess. 2:3). Some identify the two, but this seems wholly unnecessary. The phrase “the son of” is a well-known Heb. or Gr. idiom, followed by the trait or quality or destiny it embodies. In this case, it is that of a ruined character (Jn 6:70; 2 Thess. 2:3), which produces ruin in others (Jn 18:2–3; 2 Thess. 2:9–12), eventually experiencing destruction (Acts 1:18; 2 Thess. 2:8) and a final casting into eternal damnation (Acts 1:25; Rev 17:8, 11). The name thus portrays the progress of both these individuals from evil character to the place of eternal loss.[1]

The beast: Both a king and kingdom are referred to in this term. was, and is not, and will ascend. A reference to the Antichrist’s false resurrection (13:3, 4, 12–14; see note on 13:3). out of the bottomless pit. After his “resurrection,” the Antichrist will become possessed by a great demon from the abyss (see notes on 13:1, 3). perdition. Eternal destruction (cf. v. 11; Matt. 7:13; John 17:12; Phil. 1:28; 3:19; 2 Thess. 2:3; Heb. 10:39; 2 Pet. 2:3; 3:7, 16). This is the lake of fire, the place of Antichrist’s destruction (19:20). Book of Life. The role of the elect, written in eternity past by God (see note on 3:5). Only the elect will escape the Antichrist’s deception (Matt. 24:24). from the foundation of the world. See note on 13:8; cf. 1 Tim. 1:9; Titus 1:2 (“before time began”). A frequent phrase (Matt. 13:35; 25:34; Luke 11:50; John 17:24; Eph. 1:4; Heb. 4:3; 9:26; 1 Pet. 1:20) referring to God’s pre-creation plan.[2]

17:9 Mystery, Babylon the Great,” aka “The Whore of Babylon,” and there is virtually no disagreement among Bible teachers of who “she” is in Revelation chapter 17. Here’s a brief summary of who this entity is in chapter 17: [1]

In Revelation 17:9, we read, “And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.” Rome is well known as the “city of seven hills.” So, the “woman” is located in, or around, Rome. Vatican City is only 4km from Rome and is, in essence, a suburb of Rome.

For a brief time, the Roman empire under the emperors persecuted the true church of Christ. But the Roman empire, as is documented at the end of this article, quickly morphed into the Roman Catholic church and has essentially been the power behind the city of Rome and, in many regards, the world ever since.

The “woman” has been ruler over kings (Rev. 17:2 & Rev. 18:3, Rev. 18:9); she has persecuted and killed the saints (Rev. 17:6 & Rev. 18:24), and she sits on many waters with peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues (Rev. 17:15 & Rev. 18:3, Rev. 18:23), showing that her empire stretches into every nation on earth. A perfect description of the Roman Catholic church, which has reigned for approximately 1,700 years.

17:9-11 The seven heads of the Beast represent seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. The city of Rome was known throughout the ancient world as a city built on seven hills or mountains. John notes that the wise mind will make the proper identification. The woman represents idolatrous, anti-God civilization (cf. v. 15). The identification of the seven heads as Rome shows that the Beast will have his major base of operations at Rome also (cf. Dan. 9:26 - the “people of the prince that shall come” are the Romans in A.D. 70). Titus and the 12th Legion.

17:10 The seven kings may represent: (1) seven rulers in the Roman Empire (from Augustus to Domitian and Antichrist); or (2) the seven horns left on the fourth beast of Daniel 7 after three horns are pulled up by the roots (cf. Dan. 7:8, 20); or most likely, (3) the seven kingdoms or empires that throughout history have ruled over Israel and much of the known world: Egypt, Assyria, Babylonia, Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome, and the revived Roman Empire (of the early Tribulation period), Five are fallen (are past); one is the Roman Empire existing at the time of John, and the seventh (revived Rome) is not yet come.

This revived Roman Empire is represented in Daniel by the 10 toes in the image of Daniel 2:41-44 and by the ten horns on the fourth beast of Daniel 7:7, 20, 24, and in Revelation by the 10 horns on the first Beast.

In modern scholarship, some are speculating that the two legs of iron are the two major factions of Islam [Shia and Sunni]. That the ten toes represent 10 Muslim nations; that they constantly battle each other and do not mix.[2]

[2] Dennis commentary

17:15-16 I’m repeating this once again for emphasis: The ‘waters’ are every global nation where the Vatican and Roman Catholic religion has a presence (everywhere). Pope Francis has had great success in uniting all religions (ecumenicism). He has stated all religions pray to the same god, called by a different name in different cultures (hogwash).

He has signed agreements with Evangelical protestant denominations, sects of Islam, and the World Council of Churches is behind him. He has made numerous blasphemous statements. This One World religion is fast approaching.

Pope Francis is pushing the dialog that Abraham is the father of all faiths: On March 5, 2021, he is going to the homeland of Abraham, Ur, Iraq, for interfaith gathering and promoting his agenda. A continued effort to consolidate all the earth’s religions into a One World religion. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, looks like a duck; it’s not an elephant. Francis is a socialist, communist, and globalist to his very core, and the first Jesuit Pope [investigate Jesuit history]. I’m not playing pin the tail on the donkey, but if this man is not the False Prophet, he’s certainly a precursor.

Francis appears as a lamb; mild, weak, and humble; but he speaks like a dragon and is evil. Below is but one link to his ecumenical trip to Abraham’s homeland, Ur, Iraq.

https://www.reuters.com/article/pope-iraq-ur-preparations-int/popes-visit-to-iraqi-ziggurat-to-bring-together-several-faiths-and-hopefully-lure-more-visitors-idUSKBN2AM0XW

17:16 How Is the Whore of Babylon and the City Where She Sits Destroyed?

“And the ten horns [kings] which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire” (Revelation 17:16a).

I can hardly expect this attack described by John to be anything other than a pinpoint nuclear attack on the Whore of Babylon and the city where she sits (RCC/Vatican City/Rome). To “eat her flesh, and burn her with fire” couldn’t describe a nuclear attack more clearly than these words John uses to describe this destruction.

In Revelation 18:1-24, we see similar descriptions of the aftermath of a nuclear strike. “… her plagues come in one day… and shall be utterly burnt with fire” (verse 8). “And the kings of the earth… shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning, standing afar off for the fear of her torment,” describing a fear that can only be that of radiation fallout (verses 9-10). The merchants of the earth do the same, as they “… shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment” (verse 15). And, if that wasn’t enough, so do the shipmasters and sailors as they “… stood afar off, and cried when they saw the smoke of her burning” (verses 17-18). “… for in one hour, she is made desolate” (verse 19).

Other Confirmations of the Entity of Revelation 17 & 18 Are One and the Same. Both are called Babylon the Great. Revelation 17:5 & Revelation 18:2. Both are clothed purple and scarlet. (A city isn’t clothed in apparel; people in a city are). In Roman Catholicism, Bishop wears purple and the Cardinals wear red! Revelation 17:4 & Revelation 18:16

Both persecuted the saints (and apostles and prophets in chapter 18). Revelation 17:6 & Revelation 18:24

Both are women (The city and the system – Vatican City/Rome/RCC). Revelation 17:1-7 & Revelation 18:3-9

Both state that the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her. Revelation 17:2 & Revelation 18:3

Revelation 18:4 reads: “And I heard another voice from heaven say, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” What is God calling His people out of?

Point #1: God wouldn’t be calling out His people if they were in the Mark of the Beast economic system, as all who are in this system are damned and have no chance of redemption (Revelation 14:9-11).

Point #2: Some would say that God is calling out His people from the city of Rome before it’s destroyed. Really? The truth is, Christians are going to be on the run for the entire duration of the seven-year Tribulation period – they won’t be hanging out in Rome, or in any other city for that matter.

Point #3: God is calling out His people from the false religious system, and has been for the past 1,700 years. There will be those who are left behind after the rapture of the church of Christ who is Catholics; those who never put their faith and trust in Christ Jesus and instead trusted in the “mother church” for their salvation. Once they understand their error of following a false religious system, they will repent and give their lives fully to Christ. These are the one’s God is calling out of the Roman Catholic Church – the “Whore of Babylon.” (Without getting into too much detail, many in the RCC can easily fall into an idol, Marian, and “saint” worship, not to mention all the other sins and heresies the RCC teaches. God’s people, once truly saved, need to repent and leave this false religious system.)

There can be no doubt that the same entity is being spoken of in both Revelation chapters 17 & 18. This entity is the Roman Catholic church.

Dennis--will you show me the scriptures that tell you there will be a 'one world government' and a world religion?

I would enjoy seeing what you have, thank you.

Unfortunately, I cannot edit my previous post for some reason? It would show my photographic examples until I posted, then went crazy.

Dennis--will you show me the scriptures that tell you there will be a 'one world government' and a world religion?

I believe Zech. 5:6-11 to also address your question. The following are some notes I have taken on the subject and more. Bold and underlined, are specific references to your question. If you decide to read it all, you're a better man than me if you don't fall asleep:

NAMES & DESCRIPTIVE TITLES OF THE ANTICHRIST

The Seed of Satan: Genesis 3:15 (KJV) And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Satan is a mimicker of everything the Lord does. Satan tried to prevent the Messiahs coming by contaminating the blood line of Jesus’ via Genesis 6:1-4, and the murder of young children. He has had someone ready in every generation to step in, IE., Hitler. He will have a son (Antichrist) and the False Prophet will act as his holy spirit; most likely in my opinion, the Pope.

The Little Horn: Daniel 7:8 (KJV) I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.

Apparently three of these nations, powers or global zones don’t go along with his program; and are defeated and come under his control. A mouth speaking great things: No doubt when he speaks, he will deceive and mesmerize the mass with his eloquent speech as an orator. He will make Hitler look like a stuttering babbler.

The King of Fierce Countenance: Daniel 8:23 (KJV) And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.

Dark sentences: חִידָה (ḥî·ḏā(h)): n.fem.; ≡ Str 2420; TWOT 616a—1. LN 32.21 riddle, enigma, i.e., the asking of a hard question (as a game) to be solved or guessed, implying scorn or taunting toward the persons being asked (Jdg 14:12–19 passim; Hab 2:6+); 2. hidden things, intrigue, something secret and difficult or impossible to be known (Nu 12:8; Ps 78:2; Da 8:23+). By the power and indwelling of Satan as his son; the Antichrist will have superior intelligence and wisdom to solve the globes problems.

King of Bold Face Biblical Man, King — A later monarch over a kingdom split from the goat’s horn in Daniel’s vision who would understand riddles. Commonly believed to be Antiochus IV Epiphanes. skilled in riddles This ability implies wisdom in the ancient Near East (see Dan 5:12). Antiochus displays worldly wisdom, making him skilled in intrigue. This designation emphasizes his duplicity (see vv. 25; 11:21, 23, 27, 32). Antiochus Epiphanes was a watered-down type and shadow of the coming Antichrist.

The Prince That Shall Come: Daniel 9:26 (KJV) And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

שָׁמֵם (šā·mēm): v.; ≡ Str 8074; TWOT 2409—1. LN 20.31–20.60 (qal) be desolate, be devastated, destitute, laid waste, ravaged, ruined, deserted, i.e., be in a destroyed and ruined state, implying the object or area destroyed is now abandoned from all help, deserted, or in personal poverty.

The Desolator: Daniel 9:27 (KJV) And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

שִׁקּוּץ שָׁמֵם (šiq·qûṣ šā·mēm)1 abomination that causes desolation, a horrible thing which defiles, i.e., an object or event causing the vacating of a holy site (Da 9:27; 11:31; 12:11+)

One week is seven days, which represents seven years. In the ‘midst of the week’, is exactly midpoint of the tribulation, or 1,260 days of 360-day Hebrew years in [3.5 years; mid-tribulation]. He previously made a covenant with Israel and allowed the Temple to be built, and animal sacrifices to finally resume again. As soon as he stands in the Holy of Holies in the Temple, and declares himself to be god; in earnest he will ransack Israel and start martyring the Jews by the hundreds of thousands. They will probably flee to the caves of Petra, Jordan. A remnant of one third of the population will be protected by the Lord and saved.

A Vile Person: Daniel 11:21 (KJV) And in his estate shall stand up a vile person, to whom they shall not give the honour of the kingdom: but he shall come in peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by flatteries.

Vile Person: (bā·zā(h)): v.; ≡ despise, show contempt for, think lightly, i.e., pertaining to feeling of contempt for an object, because it is regarded to be bad, or of little value, often with behaviors toward the object (including speaking scorn and ridicule) which correspond to that contempt (Ge 25:34); (qal pass.) be despised (Ps 22:7); (nif) be despised, be contemptible (1Sa 15:9); (hif) cause to despise (Est 1:17.

Flatteries: חֲלַקְלַק (ḥǎlǎq·lǎq): n.fem.; ≡ slipperiness, slickness, i.e., having the state or quality of viscosity, and so be treacherous to walk upon (Ps 35:6; Jer 23:12+); 2. LN 33.251–33.255 empty words, i.e., words that promise, but are not fulfilled, with a focus on the flattering quality of the promises (Da 11:21, 34+), note: some translate as “hypocrisy” and “intrigues” as more specific kinds of falsehoods.

The Willful King: Daniel 11:36 (KJV) And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.

The Abomination of Desolation: Matthew 24:15 (KJV) When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

The Man of Sin: 2 Thessalonians 2:3 (KJV) Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

That man of sin: We cannot know or figure out whom this man of sin is ahead of time, until he is reveled. Who the Antichrist is, is reveled when he “confirms” a covenant for seven years with Israel and the many. This also is the ‘official’ start of the seven year [2,520 days] tribulation. Falling away: Some expound this falling away is the Rapture of the Church, I disagree. I believe it is a falling away from the true Gospel and having itchy ears and believing a lie. Falling away from having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ our Lord.

Son of Perdition: I find it interesting that only two people in the Bible are called “son of perdition”; the Antichrist and Judas Iscariot. 2 Thessalonians 2:3 (KJV) Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; John 17:12 (KJV) While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

Perdition: ἀπώλεια (apōleia), destruction, ruin (Mt 7:13); waste, needless squandering of a resource (Mt 26:8; Mk 14:4).

The Lawless One; Wicked: 2 Thessalonians 2:8 (KJV) And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

The Antichrist: The name Antichrist appears only four times in the Bible: 1 John 2:18 (KJV) Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. 1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. 1 John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 2 John 7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

ANTICHRIST (ἀντίχριστος, antichristos). A figure empowered by Satan who functions as an enemy of Jesus Christ and the Church. In the context of apocalyptic literature, this figure performs false miracles, deceives many in order to discourage people from worshiping the true God, and persecutes God’s people and His chosen people the Jews. He will deny that Jesus came to earth in the flesh and deny there is a supreme God and Son of God.

ἀντίχριστος (antichristos), ου (ou), ὁ (ho): n.masc.; ≡ Str 500; TDNT 9.493—LN 53.83 antichrist, one who opposes Christ, implying the usurping of Christ and his position 1Jn 2:18, 22; 4:3; 2Jn 7+

The Beast: Revelation 11:7 (KJV) And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them. Revelation 13:1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

The Idol Shepherd: Zechariah 11:17 (KJV) Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.

Revelation 13:3 (KJV) And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.

This sounds as if there’s an assassination attempt on the Antichrist or he is mortally wounded in a battle? The Lord only has the power to resurrect the dead. I suspect this is another deception of the king of destruction and deception, another lie.

The Wicked One: Matthew 13:38 (KJV) The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;

The Adversary: Psalm 74:10 (KJV) O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name forever?

The Assyrian: Isaiah 10:5 (KJV) O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.

Assyria, the rod of my anger Yahweh used Assyria to punish Israel. Victory in the ancient world was often attributed to the superiority of one’s god. Yahweh is thus presented as truly superior—He, not Assyria’s god, is behind their success. The foreign nations are simply tools in the hands of Yahweh. There’s a long history of Assyria oppressing and enslaving Israel. The Assyrians were Semites (Gen. 10:22), but in process of time non-Semite tribes mingled with the inhabitants. They were a military people, the “Romans of the East.”

The Profane and Wicked Prince of Israel: Ezekiel 21:25 (KJV) And thou, profane wicked prince of Israel, whose day is come, when iniquity shall have an end,

Son of the Morning: Isaiah 14:12 (KJV) How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

False Christs: Matthew 24:24 (KJV) For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

IDENTIFICATION

John 5:43 (KJV) I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. He will come in his own name, and the world will accept him as their messiah; after rejecting the One True Messiah; Jesus Christ our Lord.

Before the antichrist will be revealed, the world will be divided into ten governing units that are ruled by 10 powerful leaders (or kings). The United Nations has divided the globe up into TEN economic global trading zones. The antichrist, not one of the ten, will arise in power and conquer three of the ten, and they will become only figure-heads under him. The other seven kings will submit to him (Daniel 7:23-24; Rev. 17:12, 13, 17).

(1) He will come into power before the tribulation (2 Thess. 2:3).

(2) He will sign a 7-year covenant with Israel, which starts the tribulation (Dan. 9:7).

(3) The numerical value of his name is 666 (Rev.13:18).

(4) The Israelis will know him when he stands in the holy place of the tribulation temple and declare himself to be God (Mt.24:15).

(5) Some suspect he might be a Muslim.

Daniel 11:37 (KJV) Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.

There’s much speculation and opinion on “nor the desire of women.” It could mean a female worship goddess, he’s a Sodomite homosexual, he doesn’t recognize traditional marriage, or celibate, and has no interest in the opposite sex? I suspect based on his names, the world developing today, his character, traits and evil like the world has never seen before; he’s a flaming deviant homosexual with not one moral.

WORKS OF THE ANTICHRIST

• He will destroy, deceive, exalt himself, and oppose Christ (Dan. 8:23-25).

• He will establish a 7-year covenant with Israel, break it after 3 1/2 years, and stop the sacrifices being offered during the tribulation (Dan. 9:27).

• He will desecrate the sacredness of the Jewish temple by standing in the Holy Place (Mt. 24:15) and sitting in the temple, demanding to be worshiped as God (2 Th. 2:3-4).

• He will set up an image of himself in the Jewish temple, demanding that it be worshiped. Those who don’t are killed (Dan.11:31; Mt. 24:15; Rev.13:14-15).

• He will magnify himself above and speak against God, and he has no desire for women. (Dan. 11:36-39)

• He will invade Israel and gain control over many countries. (Dan. 11:40-45)

• He will obey Satan, demonstrating great power, signs, and wonders. (2 Thess. 2:9)

• He will be fatally wounded but will be healed. The world will follow him, and he will wage war (Rev. 13:3-4).

• He will be arrogant, blaspheme God, and overcome the saints (Rev. 13:5-6).

• He will have authority over the world for 42 months and be worshiped by the world. (Rev. 13:7-8). He will demand that everybody have his mark on them (Rev. 13:16-18).

THE ANTICHRIST’S DOOM

• He will be broken without human agency (Dan. 8:25).

• What is decreed upon him will be poured out on him (Dan. 9:27).

• He will come to his end and no one will help him (Dan. 11:45).

• He will be slain by the breath of Christ at His second coming (2 Thess. 2:8).

• He will be thrown alive into the lake of fire (Rev. 19:19-20).

Antichristagainst Christ, or an opposition Christ, a rival Christ. The word is used only by the apostle John. Referring to false teachers, he says (1 John 2:18, 22; 4:3; 2 John 1:7), “Even now are there many antichrists.”

(1.) This name has been applied to the “little horn” of the “king of fierce countenance” (Dan. 7:24, 25; 8:23–25).

(2.) It has been applied also to the “false Christs” spoken of by our Lord (Matt. 24:5, 23, 24).

(3.) To the “man of sin” described by Paul (2 Thess. 2:3, 4, 8–10).

(4.) And to the “beast from the sea” (Rev. 13:1; 17:1–18).[1]

Antichrist (ἀντίχριστος, antichristos). A figure empowered by Satan who functions as an enemy of Jesus Christ and the Church. In the context of apocalyptic literature, this figure performs false miracles, deceives many in order to discourage people from worshiping the true God, and persecutes God’s people.

Introduction

The term “antichrist” could mean either “against Christ” or “in place of Christ.” While the actual term “antichrist,” which originates in the New Testament, appears infrequently in Scripture, the concept of the antichrist appears numerous times in the New Testament. Because the broader concept appears more often than the specific term, multiple perspectives have been presented on “antichrist,” leading to the understanding that the better phrase used to discuss the issue may be “eschatological antagonist.”

Survey of New Testament Usage

Johannine Letters

The term “antichrist” (ἀντίχριστος, antichristos) appears in Scripture four times, solely in the Johannine corpus (1 John 2:18, 22; 4:3; 2 John 1:7). First and Second John combat heresies and discuss the preservation of true doctrine. The Letters indicate a heresy was spreading throughout the community which denied “Jesus is the Christ” (1 John 2:22) and His “coming in the flesh” (2 John 1:7).

The first time John uses the term, he reminds his readers that they have heard about an antichrist coming (1 John 2:18). This reveals that teaching concerning this figure precedes John’s use of the term. He uses the term in his letters to describe those who oppose these central doctrines concerning the person of Jesus Christ. For John, those who had receive the truth yet teach false doctrine concerning Jesus are antichrists.

Synoptic Gospels

The Synoptic Gospels present the concept of antichrist in a discourse by Jesus, in which He warns His disciples concerning things which are to come. All three of these Gospels provide warnings against following those who come proclaiming to be the Christ (Matt 24:4–5; Mark 13:5–6; Luke 21:8). Mark notes the rise of “false Christs and false prophets” (ψευδόχριστοι καὶ ψευδοπροφῆται, pseudochristoi kai pseudoprophētai) who possess the power to perform “signs and wonders” (σημεῖα καὶ τέρατα, sēmeia kai terata) in order to deceive people and legitimate their claims as messianic figures (Matt 24:24; Mark 13:22). The description of these “false Christs” (ψευδόχριστοι, pseudochristoi) parallels the description appearing in the Pauline text, indicating that the term “false Christ” functions as an equivalent term to “antichrist” (ἀντίχριστος, antichristos).

Pauline Epistles

Second Thessalonians provides the earliest written New Testament statements concerning the antichrist concept (accepting that Paul’s writings are among the earliest in the New Testament). Paul combines two antichrist traditions—the political and the religious. He writes to the Thessalonians to correct their misunderstanding that the Day of the Lord has occurred, explaining that specific events must occur prior to the Day of the Lord—namely, rebellion and the revelation of an eschatological antagonist.

Paul refers to the figure as “the man of lawlessness” (ὁ ἄνθρωπος τῆς ἀνομίας, ho anthrōpos tēs anomias) and “the son of destruction” (ὁ υἱὸς τῆς ἀπωλείας, ho huios tēs apōleias; a Semitic idiom describing one who is destined for destruction; 2 Thess 2:3). Paul connects the revealing of this figure to his leading a coming rebellion (2 Thess 2:3). He then notes this figure’s actions, stating he will proclaim himself as God and desire to be worshiped. Like the false christs and false prophets mentioned in Matthew and Mark, this one will display his power by “signs and wonders” (σημείοις καὶ τέρασιν, sēmeiois kai terasin) in order to deceive people (2 Thess 2:9–10). Paul also notes that Jesus Himself will destroy this antagonist (2 Thess 2:8).

Revelation

The canonical work receiving the most treatment concerning the topic of antichrist is Revelation. Unlike other New Testament writings, this work does not utilize a human as its antichrist image; it uses two “beasts”:

1.        A beast from the sea, which represents the political antichrist tradition; it wears 10 crowns and receives the dragon’s power, throne, and authority (Rev 13:2).

2.        A beast from the land, which represents the religious antichrist tradition; it exercises the authority of the first beast, and like those of whom Jesus spoke, uses its power to perform “signs” (σημεῖα, sēmeia) and deceive the people, directing them to worship the first beast (Rev 13:13–14).

John later refers to the second beast as the “false prophet” (Rev 16:13; 19:20), a reference which echoes Jesus’ statements in the Synoptic Gospels and John’s statements in 1 John. This label also recalls Deut 13, where God provides instructions concerning false prophets. As with Paul’s writings, John also notes the ultimate destruction of both beasts—they are captured and cast into the lake of fire (Rev 19:20).

Antichrist Depictions Outside of the New Testament

Though it may seem out of sequence to refer to an “antichrist” before the coming of Jesus, the Old Testament and other pre-Christian writings refer to the idea of antichrist or “anti-Messiah” figures. For example, the book of Daniel presents the idea of a political figure who becomes powerful and advances “not by his own power” (Dan 8:23–25 ESV). Daniel later speaks of an “abomination of desolation” that occurs at the hands of a political leader who will also persecute the people of God and declare himself as God (Dan 11:31–37). This prophecy appears to refer to Antiochus IV, who offered pagan sacrifices on the altar in the temple and killed those who abided by Jewish Law (1 Macc 1:54–64). He may have also declared himself a deity. The Synoptic Gospels record Jesus applying Daniel’s words to a future event—possibly pointing to Caligula’s desire to place a statue of himself in the temple, declaring himself a deity. This multifaceted fulfillment of Daniel’s prophecy presents the understanding of multiple antichrist figures throughout history.

Christian expectations of the antichrist are often associated with the idea of “signs and wonders”; however, pre-Christian texts do not present this position. Despite the expectation that the eschatological antagonist will claim divinity, little evidence exists prior to the era of early Christian writing supporting the belief that this individual will perform signs and wonders. Deuteronomy 13 may be a foundation for this understanding of miracles in association with the antichrist.

The New Testament also uses ancient Near Eastern mythologies beyond the Old Testament to communicate the concept of antichrist. For example, the two beasts of Rev 13 recall the Leviathan and Behemoth mentioned in Job 40–41. However, these two creatures draw on imagery of ancient Near Eastern cosmogonies. The biblical writers adopted these images to demonstrate that the Hebrew God is superior because He is able to punish the creatures—one from the sea and the other from the land—which represent chaos and rebellion. By incorporating such chaos and rebellion imagery into his apocalypse, John draws on imagery which his original readers would have been familiar with.

Antichrist in Modern Scholarship

The majority of modern scholarship focuses on the origin of the antichrist motif in order to better understand how the Scriptures present the concept. Bousset’s The Antichrist Legend: A Chapter in Christian and Jewish Folklore, published in 1896, has become a foundation for modern research concerning the topic. He took a history of religion approach to Jewish and Christian apocalyptic literature. His study provides readers with historical data that causes them to consider the religious, historical, and political settings out of which the ideas concerning the eschatological antagonist develop.

The scholarly writings concerning the antichrist have all contributed significantly to understanding the theme as it is presented in Scripture.

•         Emmerson’s Antichrist in the Middle Ages focuses on the beliefs expressed during this time period concerning the development of the antichrist motif, as well as beliefs concerning the antichrist’s human origins.

•         McGinn’s work, Antichrist: Two Thousand Years of the Human Fascination with Evil, traces the antichrist concept through church history and discusses 20th-century trends in this area of thought. He emphasizes John’s Apocalypse, but also notes the significance of Pauline Theology on the development of the antichrist motif.

•         In Naming the Antichrist: The History of an American Obsession with Evil, Fuller discusses the development of the antichrist legend in America as people migrated from Europe. He then traces the concept through the changing political and religious climates of the country. His observations reveal the changes led people to identify religious and political leaders as the antichrist, with none filling the role of the ultimate eschatological antagonist.

•         In The Antichrist in the Intertestamental Period, Lorein criticizes scholars because they lack a specific definition of “antichrist.”

In light of Rev 13:7, what do you make of this:

Rom. 1:8 (NKJVS)   First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.

I always enjoy learning other peoples point of view. I may disagree sometimes, but I always learn something.

----

For many years I believed closely with what you have written, but I changed my perspective after dwelling on Rev 18:24.

I could not get the verse to fully comply with Rome.

This is why.

1. Rome was not involved in the history of Israel until 63 BC ish. This was not long enough to be responsible for the death of the prophets before 63 BC. Since this verse includes all of the prophets, it is impossible for Rome to be the harlot woman.

2. Matt 23:34-36, Is a prophecy that hold Israel's religious leaders (Jerusalem) responsible for the death of the prophets.

3. Rome is the beast nation, but not the woman.

The beast nation had been spoken about since the time of Daniel as the iron nation in Dan. 2 and the 4th beast of Dan 7.

The harlot woman is spoken about sitting on the beast nation, Rev 17:3.

Rev 17:7 pictures the woman being carried (supported) by the beast nation.

In Rev 17:16, The horns hate the harlot and burn her with fire, showing separate entities.

4. The Rev is centered on the children of Israel (flesh descendants). Assuming that the Rev was written in the 85-96 AD time period, John would be dealing with a divided people of Israel, one being faithful to Jesus and one that is not. The faithful Israel (Jerusalem)  is shown in Rev 12. The unfaithful woman (Jerusalem) is shown in Rev 17. Rev 17 shows the fulfillment of the Matt 23 34-36 prophecies.

5. Rev 14:8, Says that Babylon has already fallen by the time the Rev was written. This is supported by Rev 18:2-3, which also says that Babylon has fallen already.

The rest of the Rev 18 passage seems to be a prophecy, but, this may have been written to show the fulfillment of the prophecies made by Jesus and others concerning Jerusalem's 70 AD fall, kind of, "I told you this was going to happen and  it has been done, as you now see". (Understand that these writings are over 1900 old and some of the meanings, the symbolism, and the translations have been distorted by our time).

6. The harlot has "Babylon" written on her forehead Rev 17:5. A common mark on slaves at that time, the mark shows slavery and possession. She is not her own master, not independent, not having the Holy Spirit "seal/mark" of Jesus/God. John is taken to the wilderness of the gentile nations to see her, Rev 17:3, so this would imply that the woman was taken away from her home, into the wilderness and slavery against her will.

7. Rev 17:18, says that the woman is the city that reigns over the kings of the earth.

It is not the planet, but the earth of Israel. Remember that the Rev centers on the children of Israel, the earth of Israel, not the planet. So the "kings" that are spoken about here are the kings of Israel, religiously centered in Jerusalem and themselves being ruled by the religion of Jerusalem the scriptures.

Dan. 2:39, states that the kingdom of brass will bear rule over all the earth. But Greece did not rule the planet, but Greece did rule over all the earth of the children of Israel.

So the "earth" in scriptures is not always the planet, but can refer the earth of Israel.

===================

You may wish to consider that the woman eventually leaves the Roman beast that she sits on and returns to her home restoring Jerusalem to the children of Israel. This would be seen in the time period that the beast rules over the children of Israel and Jerusalem, the time period has a beginning and an end. The end of the rule over the children ends when Jerusalem is restored.

I disagree with you claim "Rome" or its religion "Catholicism"is the woman, they didnt exist to be guilty of the prophets

Jerusalem is the woman that sits on 7 hills, it's the great city that will rule over the earth's kings when the Antichrist is given his power for 42 months
