Growing up in base housing on military installations overseas, my father was adamant about complying with the "do's and don'ts" of life on base. No firearms, not even BB guns. Nope. My childhood friends were subjected to the same. What did we do, then? Asia features all manner of trees, some of which grow tough, wooden-like pods curiously similar to boomerangs. So that's we did... we armed ourselves with those boomerang pods and had at it. OOF! Those things sting when they hit the mark. A few of us became experts at beaning (pun intended) our comrades with those boomerang pods, myself included. It all came to an end when our parents collectively banned us from touching those pods ever again. We moved on to dirt clods. I was even more accurate with dirt clods...
