That both authors glorify witchcraft is completely undeniable;

This is your opinion/point of view David.

Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are not even in the same plane of existence as far as I’m concerned.

All these posts on witches and witchcraft. I wonder how you all feel about stories about murder, lying, rape, theft, adultery, and the men and women who commit those acts.

I feel the same about murder, lying, rape, theft, adultery and the men and women who do those acts if they are presented to promote those things.

David did not practise or glorify adulterous murder.  He was confronted about his sin with Bathsheba and her husband, by a prophet, then he was convicted and repented.  This is the response of a man after God's own heart.

Are those acts glorified?  Do the stories encourage people to get involved in those sins?  Do the stories expose the evil and damaging results of those sins?  Do the stories lead us to turn from those sins?

The thread is about Harry Potter and LOTR.  It is about whether they are Christian or cultic.

Are you certain that it doesn't negatively affect your walk with the Lord?  Not even a little bit?

Dear David, wanted to re-assure you that I'm able to make a distinction between what is Biblical, and what is Fiction.

I enjoy reading the Chronicles of Narnia and LOTR, and I'm aware that they are works of Fiction.

However, if/when I next endeavour to read either set of works, the Holy Spirit brings conviction, I will do, as you have done, which is to discard the books.

LOTR and Narnia books are fiction; but, they are intended to convey a message.  LOTR is intended to convey a Roman Catholic mysticism message; and the Narnia books are intended to convey a more Christian message, but both use the medium of magic ("good" vs bad) to do this.  This medium is entirely inappropriate.

Romans 6:1
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

Do you find anyone in this entire thread disagreeing with the position these things should not be presented in a manner promoting them?

Well threads get mixed up in my head so I can't say for sure.   The problem stuck in the back of my mind says that there are some who think that the witchcraft that Harry Potter uses to keep our attention is frivolous fiction.  So in their minds it should be rather harmless for there is no real thing as witchcraft.   I think " murder, lying, rape, theft, adultery" are real to them and a problem.

Just my offhand thoughts on the subject.

That's why I said earlier that some people need to meet some real witches....   though that's a really bad idea also.
