Unity in Love and You

We are each a member of the body of Christ and we each have different abilities for our individual purposes. You have a function that I do not, and I have a function that you do not. But we each have a contribution to make to the body as a whole that is needed collectively.

1 Corinthians 12:[12] For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
[13] For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
[14] For the body is not one member, but many.

It takes more than one part of your body to pick up and drink a glass of water doesn't it? There are several muscles, tendons, and joints that each function in unity (with the goal of picking up the glass and bringing it to your mouth). Once the glass of water is at your lips, your tongue and throat muscles function in unison to swallow the water. Each part involved has to perform its individual function collectively (in unison) in order to get the water into your body. They each affect the body as a whole through unity of action.

Ephesians 4:[1] I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
[2] With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
[3] Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
[4] There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
[5] One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
[6] One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Now consider the blood. It must flow through each individual part of the body simultaneously in order for it function. Such is the love of Christ. We each, as members of the body of Christ, must have love flowing through us individually simultaneously in order for us to function.

1 Corinthians 12:[15] If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
[16] And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
[17] If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
[18] But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
[19] And if they were all one member, where were the body?
[20] But now are they many members, yet but one body.
[21] And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
[22] Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
[23] And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.
[24] For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:
[25] That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.
[26] And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
[27] Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

Be who God created you to be. Be the best you can at being your unique self! Only you can do it! It will benefit all of us! But in order to know your purpose, you must first know your Creator. He will reveal to you what your purpose is, fill you with His love, and enable you with His Spirit to fulfil it. He knows your function, He formed it. And the Church Body needs you to be whole. 1 Corinthians 7:[20] Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.
[21] Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.
[22] For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant.
[23] Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.
[24] Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.

John 15:[17] These things I command you, that ye love one another.
