Judge Declares Pledge Unconstitutional

The Pledge of Allegiance was ruled unconstitutional Wednesday by a federal judge who granted legal standing to two families represented by an atheist whose previous attempt to get the pledge out of public schools was rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court.

So if the the judge in this case is going against the Supreme Court's ruling how can anyone take his ruling seriously? I thought that when the Supreme court delivers its ruling that pretty much settles it. I might be wrong though.

I heard about this one school....where during the graduation ceremony, the valid victorian gave his speech and at the end everyone in the graduating class deliberatly sneezed simultaneously, at which point the valid victorian said "God Bless You All"

The original case was rejected on a technicality, as apparently the one who brought the case to court had no right to do so on his daughter's behalf. The ACLU just had to find another puppe.., er, complaintant.

An observation though. How can the Pledge of Allegiance be "unconstitutional?" I wasn't aware it was a law (that is, laws are what are usually declared unconstitutional- I realize ignorant people use this word improperly as in the woman who complained of Bush's requests for prayers- but we're not talking of ignorant people, legally speaking).

Which brings me to another point- the 1st amendment.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

So again, the Pledge is not a law so it is not in and of itself unconstitutional since it has nothing to do with a law passed by Congress. We need to educate people on the first amendment. Plaster it on billboards, post flyers, whatever it takes. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Freedom of religion in the constitution has only to do with laws passed by Congress. Not public nativity scenes during Christmas. Not crosses on village seals. Not Bibles on public workers' desks, and not the Pledge of Allegiance. Whether by ignorance or maliciousness (there is some of both), judges are not following the constitution when declaring things pertaining to religion unconstitutional. Justice is not served. They are failing the people of this country, and failing them miserably.
