I work as a substitute teacher and on one my recent assignments, the teacher had me show a very shocking video about the Jenin attrocities. I've just started reading about Jenin and wonder which stories to believe? Are the Israeli soldiers really guilty of such horrible attrocities?

It would help me if you could be a bit more specific. What "atrocities" are you referring to? Did your teacher, or this video explain why Israel went into Jenin in the first place? I have a feeling that this video probably did not explain that Jenin was a safe haven for terrorists who were slaughtering innocent Israelis, particularly Israeli teens who were in discoteques, pizza resturaunts, shopping malls, etc on a regular basis. I don't suppose the video explained that it was the "Passover Massacre" on March 27, 2002 in which Abdel-Basset Odeh, a member of the Hamas Iz a Din al-Kassam Brigades crashed a Passover seder in the Israeli city of Netanya, and machined gunned the 250 Jews in a banquet hall celebrating Passover, that finally brought Israel into Jenin. 30 Jews were murdered, and 140 were injured. Often, the media criticizes Israel for military actions while ignoring the Palestinian terrorism that made those actions necessary in the first place.

Did the video explain that when Israel entered Jenin they only operated within a small area of the entire city. The operation only took place in an area the size of a few city blocks. Israel only went into the part of Jenin where the bomb factories were operating and where the terrorists were hanging out.

Israel could have simply used bombs from the air to accomplish their purposes, but instead they chose to clear the area by infantry. For the Israelis, this was the most dangerous way to operate, and it put the Israeli soldiers at great risk. The benefit was that it would save civilian lives.

Yeah, when the U.N thought it was a "massacre," they were going to send in teams to investigate. After the truth came out, and it was discovered that there was no massacre, no mass graves, etc. They cancelled their investigation.

Of course the U.N. expressed NO genuine outrage at the string of bombings and killings committed by the Palestinian terrorist groups that preceded the battle of Jenin, and certainly had no interest in investigating the P.A. for the atrocities committed with their tacit approval.

If I remember correctly, the report I watched in the classroom was filmed mostly by the BBC. They said that the Israeli soldiers confiscated much of their film, so they had to use hidden cameras sometimes. At the beginning of the film, they stated that Israel restricted access for the reporters. They showed footage that supposedly supported their claims.

They also showed footage of Israeli soldiers not allowing (supposedly) many Palestinians into Jerusalem, who needed to go to work in their shops, and also worship at churches, or attend schools, etc.

The film showed the Israeli soldiers not allowing ambulences to cross the border to take people who were dying to the hospital. They showed one line of cars that belonged to Israelis, on the far right, who were allowed to pass quickly, and other cars, those with BLUE liscence plates, were detained, sometimes for a very long time, and even harrased. The film showed vehicles with yelow plates, blue plates, and white plates. The reporters rented a vehicle with blue plates, and were detained much longer. When they drove a vehicle with either yellow or white plates, they were detained for only 22 seconds!

The film showed Israeli soldiers using bulldozers destroying Palestinians' homes, and telling an elderly man to leave immediately. He told the soldier that he was sick and could not get up. Then the soldier shot the old man in the hand, and told the old man to get up and leave. The old man didn't get up, and the soldier shot the old man in the foot.

There were other interviews, like with a man who said that the soldiers shot his son, a teenager, who was hiding behind a cement block. There were many other interviews with Palestinians who claimed that the Israeli soldiers had massacred many Palestinians.

This film was very convincing that the Israeli soldiers were actually the terroists! And that the Israeli soldiers were murdering the Palestinians and forcing them to leave, and destroying their homes, and killing the elderly and children for no reason.

One doctor was interviewed. He showed x-rays that clearly showed the skulls of several victims, one was a 14 month old, with six bullets in the head! The doctor showed several versions of rubber bullets that the Israeli soldiers were using against the Palestinians. The doctor also showed plastic bullets that the soldiers were using. The doctor said that the rubber bullets were supposed to be nonlethal, but had actually killed many innocent Palestinians.

Several patients, young people, were filmed in hospitals, who had suffered severe wounds from the Israeli soldiers. Both films were quite graphic, showing people who had suffered wounds from the Israeli soldiers. The doctor said that there were 46,000 (that's forty six thousand) children (under age 18) who had been handicapped because of the Israeli soldiers.

If the claims against the Israeli soldiers is not true, somebody sure did a great job at masterminding a false document. Even though the two films that I watched appear to be realistic, I still have problems believing the claims that the Israeli soldiers are the true terrorists. It seems like somebody (the media) is distorting the true story!!

The doctor showed several versions of rubber bullets that the Israeli soldiers were using against the Palestinians. The doctor also showed plastic bullets that the soldiers were using. The doctor said that the rubber bullets were supposed to be nonlethal, but had actually killed many innocent Palestinians.

There are many red flags that go up for me in the story. This (above) being one of them...why in the world, if the Israeli soldiers were intent upon mass murder, would they use rubber bullets Sorry it just doesnt wash with me.

Another, and I'll be brief. The different colored plates and how certain colors were allowed through while others were stopped. So the cars with certain colored plates are intelligent enough to make sure only certain people designated that color plate can drive them. See my meaning? Its farfetched to think your enemy will only drive vehicles with certain color plates, and I highly doubt the Israeli's think this, it could cost many lives otherwise.

If you listen close to alot of reports about Israeli soldiers you will 99% of the time hear something (if you listen carefully) that just doesn't make sense, or that contradicts itself..(like the rubber bullets).

This was for two reasons:

1. Ambulances were often used by the terrorists to smuggle weapons and other terrorists. It was a common tactic that Israel got wise to in a hurry.

2. Even legitimate ambulances cannot be allowed into a battlezone. The neighborhood was riddled with booby traps. Virtually every major building was booby trapped with explosives, not to mention explosives out in the open. Had Israel allowed doctors and nurses into those areas, and had those doctors and nurses been killed by the booby traps, Israel would have been blamed. Really any decision Israel would have made would have been wrong by international standards.

There were many other interviews with Palestinians who claimed that the Israeli soldiers had massacred many Palestinians.

Yes, and it was interesting because when the international media wanted to see the bodies and the mass graves of the massacred Palestinians, the Palestinians "forgot" where the mass graves were!! They made a laughing stock out of Amnesty International and other groups who parrotted the claims of massacres. When all was said and done, only 50 Palestians were confirmed dead, and many of them died as "martyrs" by setting off the explosions in the buildings in which they were waiting. The others died while trying to kill Israeli soldiers.

Yes, and he conveniently ommitted the part where his son was shooting at Israeli soldiers and they were returning fire.

In the Palestinian mind, the problem is not that they are trying to kill Jews. The problem is that the Jews don't want to die. "It all started when he it me back."

Ah yes, and we are supposed to assume that the bullets came from the Israelis... BTW, have you seen the size of a 14month old's head??? Six bullets? I am sorry, but six bullets from Israeli M-16s would have shattered the skull of that infant, There would not have been a skull left to examine.

Actually this could be attributed to the booby traps that were everywhere.

Also worth noting are the reports in the Arab media that equally underscore the difficulties Israeli forces faced. Take the eyewitness account of "Omar," a one-armed bomb-maker from Jenin - or, as the Egyptian weekly Al-Ahram (www.ahram.org.eg/weekly) described him, "one of the revered bomb-makers from the City of Bombers." Interviewed after his escape from Jenin, Omar explained how he and other "engineers" made "hundreds of explosive devices," and hid them throughout the camp to "trap the invading soldiers and blow them up."

"We had more than 50 houses booby-trapped around the camp," Omar said. "We chose old and empty buildings and the houses of men who were wanted by Israel because we knew the soldiers would search for them. We cut off lengths of mains water pipes and packed them with explosives and nails. Then we placed them about four meters apart throughout the houses - in cupboards, under sinks, in sofas." All of which begins to sound as if the Israelis had an awful lot of help from the Palestinians in blowing up the football-field-sized-section of the refugee camp that now lies in ruins.

That is because you only got one side of the story. You were supposed to make up your mind based solely on the faulty facts, and outright lies that were told in that film. It would not be so convincing if you were exposed to Israel's side of the story.
