I know the feeling..............it's when the decades start flying past also...........

This is why the ongoing habit of prayer and the Scriptures is so important.........

Amen! As well as looking back to see with perspective how God has worked in a lifetime in His always Gracious and Loving manner.

How a "why did you allow this"--gets clearer and clearer. These things build Trust.

My only one is to make no more new year's resolutions . I used to but these days I prefer a day-by-day approach. I do some short term planning but nothing more . I find that works out better for me in the end.

The Scriptures and the prayerful habit of reading them daily can help us to stop asking, Why? and instead, remind us to think along the lines of: There must be a reason in God's overruling, even if I don't understand it now..........

John 13.7: "What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter."

And Rom. 8:28 is where I hang out.

Day by day
Oh, Dear Lord
Three things I pray
To see thee more clearly
Love thee more dearly
Follow thee more nearly
Day by day :)

I don't know. I was thinking my friends on this forum can help me!

What does being compassionate look like to you?  If we took a snapshot of you being compassionate, what might you be doing?

Seriously, being careful of how I word my thoughts. Sometimes they don't convey compassion or humility. It's the kind of personality I grew up with I believe.

This is a tougher one in that it goes to who you are (not just what you do) . . . and I think there's only One capable of changing you on the inside. So the only thing I know to do is to give this to Him over and over, and don't be discouraged because

                                        HE'S GOT THIS!!!

To me, resolutions are a pointless wishlist activity that really has no "bones" to it.  Therefore I don't make resolutions this time of year (or any other time), but if the thing is actually worth doing, I will schedule the specific activity related to it on my calendar, because "What get's scheduled gets done!" (or at least stands a much better chance of getting done)

If it's a more involved thing, then I do what's called a "Goal Planning Sheet" (GPS for short).  The GPS consists of these basics:

  1. What is the specific goal? (SMART goal format)
  2. What are all the benefits to achieving it?
  3. What are the obstacles & solutions?
  4. What are the specific action steps needed with timeframes?
  5. How will it be tracked and measured?

In doing this, it takes something from being a wish or dream and turns it into a concrete goal, and stands a MUCH BETTER chance of being accomplished.

For more info on this, see the recent thread:

Being an IT guy, you sound alot like me. System analyst ?
