Yes, it sure looks miserable for them.... first snow covered, then drenched with rain.

Hope the cameras are not breaking down they are spinning a white circle constantly at the moment

Anyone know if the parent birds have a passport ? I am thinking of sending them a plane ticket to California for next year :flag_of_truce:

Scripps News ran a feature on these two eagles today, interviewing the host of Wild Kingdom that had  featured them Saturday morning. The news anchor stated she is hooked on watching them too.

Jackie spent 60 straight hours on the nest during the storm. Shadow has been bringing some "softer" nesting material. Jackie allowed him to take over for about one hour today. She also brought some more nesting material

The Wild Kingdom host said it was but a few years ago that the bald eagle count was down to 441, but now there are 71,000 pairs.   441? I wonder what the odd numbered one did. I do wonder about that number, only 441. ??? Each couple must  multiple  births during a year to have that great a change.

If she meant 441 pairs then it would only require each pair to have 2 eggs to get to that number in less than 4 years

Thankfully the snow has melted and it has stopped raining The nest " bowl " looks much deeper today so they have obviously been working hard  to make sure it is safe for the ( hopefully ) chicks they should start to hatch in less than a week now :yeah:

It usually is....warm, some hotter days...not much rain.   A Mediterranean climate I read.

However, we do have mountains two hours away which can get snow in Winter.

Currently we are getting a rare atmospheric river so that is bringing more rain and snow.

Sometimes the ski resorts have to use machines to make snow....but not now!

Big Bear Lake is actually a reservoir located it The San Bernadino Mountains in southern California.  The elevation is roughly 7000 feet so the climate is unlike the warm coast of California.  I'm glad the snow finally ceased (for now) and gave our eagle friends a break.  I'm really hoping for chicks to hatch and survive.
