@Willa (the other thread is closed now where you made this comment)

That means that if I call Farouk a nincompoop for promoting tattoos and he calls me a muttonhead for thinking they are ugly, we are both in hot water.  lol.

:)

"Promoting tattoos" would more be a perception; what interests me is analyzing the subject from various angles, and indeed the various posters have been helping to do so.

(The poll results so far are interesting also.)

I really don't care why people get tattoos or if they are beneficial.

@Willa Kind of in your family, To each her own, I guess.........

I thought that Nancy summed it up rather well:

tattoos ... everyone and their grandmothers has them now and, they do not a thing for me, what can I say? Pretty much every one I know, and that includes Christians and myself, have a tattoo so...I am not criticizing anybody here or anywhere...

Yes, and the worst reason for doing anything is "everybody's doing it".

Matthew 7:13 (KJV)

@The_Patriot21 My wife and I talked anyway to a young lady with the whole of John 3.16 tattooed on her wrist area; it led to the conversation. You would likely have found the conversation interesting, anyway.

I am still curious as to your obsession with this topic, and why you seem set on getting everyone to your way.

You deny it, yet you quote a comment I made 2 months ago. 2 months after I made it quite clear I was no longer interested in the discussion.

It seems to be bordering on idolatry at this point, and its quite frankly, not healthy. Perhaps it's time you walked away from tattoos. Because even if it's not idolatry it is an obsession, and it's an obsession about something that clearly isn't Biblical. At best, tattoos are a grey area.

@Stewardofthemystery

I saw your comments about tattoos on the other thread. FYI: poll, above.

I got a tattoo on my ankle for that very reason. It's a rainbow butterfly w/ writing in Spanish ("no soy la misma", which translates to "I am not the same") & the date I became a Christian. Most people here only know English, so they ask what it means. That opens the door for a conversation if they want to keep talking. If nothing else, it plants a seed.

@ApplePi Among Christians, ppl are ready to get inked up really confidently, aren't they? :)  esp. when the designs are benign and there's a really strong testimony reason for it.

@Jayne Back a bit you said:

"Verse 27 says that men are not to cut their hair at the temple [sideburns] nor their beards. ... How do you reconcile not keeping this...."

Your question is exactly the sort of question that I would ask.

So many Christians get Bible verses tattooed. Giving them a hard time is not something we should be doing, imho.

I have Christian friends who have them. They usually have their favorite Bible verse tattooed on a wrist--sometimes on the lower leg.

As my own preference I don't like tattoos at all, but I don't think I have wisdom enough to speak on this subject.

That's all I will say on this one, lol.

Peace!

Yes, your post reminds me of a saying that maybe applies for the young adult man or woman, who wonder if they can take courage to go for it and go for the first time into the tattoo parlor:

"Nothing ventured; nothing gained".
