The city of Rome has banned goldfish bowls, which animal rights activists say are cruel, and has made regular dog-walks mandatory in the Italian capital, the town's council said Tuesday.

Why does this seem a bit dumb? I wonder how long it will be before we have those laws here in the US?

I'm sorry sir, you can no longer keep your fish in that. It is cruel.

It's a 150 gallon tank with all the equipment to keep them safe and healthy.

But it's a wild animal, and you should release them back into their natural habitat.

Sure, I'll release them. Then they will be back where you think they will be happy, BACK ON THE SHORT END OF THE FOOD CHAIN!

No, keep them in a tank which is large enough for them to swim freely and allows the water to absorb enough oxygen for the fishes needs, fish bowls are a very inadequate environment for fish. There is nothing christian about keeping domestic pets in innadequate conditions

Goldfish have a three second memory. Every turn in a goldfish bowl is new to them!
