Thanks, @grace222 and @MelodyCat for your participation in the poll!

As per your votes, I guess you never felt the inclination, right?

Hi @Mr. M Back a bit you said:

"I have never considered getting a tattoo, but I try to avoid imposing my opinions on the liberty of others when it comes to such matters."

The other day I talked to a young man with a tattoo on his arm which quoted Philippians 4.13: " I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

We didn't even focus on the tattooing aspect; we talked about the Scriptures; it is an Epistle that has been a real blessing to me personally.

I likewise have been thoroughly blessed by that Epistle. I do not judge by the outward appearance, which is what a tattoo is, and all things are legal, but not necessarily edifying.

I also have had many blessed conversations and fellowship without the need of tattoos, so it is not an important matter either way. I would never shun someone because they had a tattoo, or smoked, or were struggling with a drug habit for that matter.

I will leave tattoo use as a conversation starter for others, while keeping in mind that the tradition of our faith is without images, likenesses, etc...while we stand apart from worldly practices. Bible verses is an interesting approach. I have seen many on T-shirts and hats...

@NConly Back a bit you said: "I have the Bald eagle for love of my country".

Particularly among military personnel, military spouses/families, it seems like patriotic, faith-based and family themes so often and so strongly provide highly motivating reasons for it.

This is why a man or woman from a military household who has not yet ever been tattooed often finds it the strongly compelling reason -even overwhelmingly so - to have a tattoo artist work on their skin for the first time.

(I think you yourself would understand this very strong motivation.)

@Anne2 "my daughter there.. A nurse .. also tattooed, very discreetly though."

What you shared back a bit about your daughter; nursing as a demographic seems actually and rather evidently to have become almost 100% tattooed.

At this point- honestly it’s almost a requirement. Every single one of my coworkers is tattooed. reddit dot com

Perhaps even more so than military personnel, an RN without a tattoo seems to have become an unusual exception. (Not surprising, what you said about your daughter, being a nurse, herself having expected to undergo her own ink-up session.)

Hi @Marilyn C Re. "To make a disciple takes time and real relationship not just an interest in a tattoo."

You're right; a faith based tattoo is really more of a stepping stone...

(Though to that end, a lot of Christians do get inked up.)

@Marilyn C Thanks for the 'like'; it's hard indeed for legalists to try to deny the fact of many faith-based/Scripture theme ink ups among Christians, isn't it?

@Marilyn C Some ppl who don't like faith based tattoos (which is fine, if they don't) might sometimes try do deny just how widespread they really are.

FYI:

..in the rural Bible Belt. Just about every person in three of the four sides of my family (bio parents, step parents) have multiple tattoos. Most of them are biblical (crosses between the shoulder blades are the most common ones) getting tattoos when your old enough is pretty much expected in the family.

Around here (Bible Belt), it is common, especially among evangelical Christians, for the girls under about 40 to have religious tattoos. More do than don't, especially when you get to the under 30 crowd. I hardly know any female at church that is under 30 that does not have a tattoo.
