Some shofars are made from kudu antelope horns instead of ram's horns. They're the long curly ones. There are actually 5 different kinds of shofars, all from different animals. See Judaica Webstore. It's supposed to be a secure website. I wonder if anyone's tried to make one from the Texas Longhorn? (The animal, not the ball team!) I'm looking forward to it. I have a small kudu shofar and a ram's horn shofar on my mantle. I get them out and blow them when the mood strikes ... much to the dismay of my two dogs.

My former rabbi here was teaching me how to blow them and blow the tekiah, shevarim, t'ruah, and the tekiah gedolah blasts. I'm not as good as some others, but I can blow them for R'owsh HaShannah and other holidays. 1
