Thoughts Leading to Belief - Part 3

My journey from strong Christian belief to Atheism took a while, and my return to solid faith really has taken a while as well - a slow, "behind the scenes" process of realizing that I really believe Christianity to be true deep down inside, despite my doubts and despite the hatred towards God and the Bible and Christians generally that I displayed regularly on my old skeptical "Religion is Bullshit" sites.

The primary thought that I want to share for this post is the fact that God used the Anatomy & Physiology class I am taking out at the University of Alaska Anchorage to lead me back to belief in God again. I have just been AWED by the incredible DESIGN of the human body! As I encountered more and more intricate DESIGN as we studied the body, I realized that there MUST be a God, and that I know who I believe that God to be - the God of the Bible. I went to church last Sunday, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The worship service was okay (not great, but okay), but the preaching was awesome. Still, I will be doing some "church shopping" before I settle on one more permanently.

I had been concerned that I had blasphemed the Holy Spirit, and therefore could not return to the Faith. But, the fact is that I know that God does love me, forgive me, and accept me. He helped me get past such fears by showing me Psalm 73. I just happened to open my Bible up to that psalm. I read nothing particularly remarkable until I got to verses 21-28:

21 When my heart was grieved

and my spirit embittered,

22 I was senseless and ignorant;

I was a brute beast before you.

23 Yet I am always with you;

you hold me by my right hand.

24 You guide me with your counsel,

and afterward you will take me into glory.

25 Whom have I in heaven but you?

And earth has nothing I desire besides you.

26 My flesh and my heart may fail,

but God is the strength of my heart

and my portion forever.

27 Those who are far from you will perish;

you destroy all who are unfaithful to you.

28 But as for me, it is good to be near God.

I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge;

I will tell of all your deeds.

It is wonderful to be back in fellowship with God again!

Your testimony is wonderful and very encouraging. I hope people read all three parts of this.

jlr1701~ Don't be offended if someone comes along and edits out the foul language in your old web site name because it would simply be so that everyone is comfortable reading this.

On the other hand.....it shows how far you've come.

I continue to be struck by the different paths that each of us treads on our way to Christ...
