I have some Sex and the City DVDs and some films that arent very Christian. So...at first I had the brilliant idea that I would trade them in at the video store for some new holier DVDs for myself. But then I thought, is that wrong and selfish of me to just put them back out into the world like that? Should I just cut them up and throw them away? I dont know, what should I do? Of course I want to trade them but would it be better for me to destroy them? What would Jesus want me to do? Maybe it is not my responsibility to burn them? He is telling me that stories are stories, some stories have bad in them, just like the stories of the OT, but they need not be obliterated? Since it isnt right for you to see it, it isnt right for others to see it. In essence you promote sin by putting it where others can view it. Toss them. It was a test of obedience and serving God vs gods. I threw out Black Sabbath, etc. as well as other positive secular music. I did the right thing at the time. In retrospect, I wish I had much of it back and have replaced some of it (The Who, Beatles, etc.). The key was for God to have my heart as evidenced by my tangible willingness to give up important, costly things. To obey is better than sacrifice. This is between you and God and should not be a legalism. Some things are not profitable or wrong. Sex and City is crude and has little redeeming value for a believer. Trash it. Other things might be OK to keep or trade in. The issue of the money spent or forfeited might be another test of Lordship (therefore destroy it). Sometimes extreme and radical is what is needed. On the other hand, it might be wise to let some go and it would not pose a risk for someone else who would buy it. Listen to the Spirit, Word, and your heart. Men may give wisdom, but they might also confuse you.

JK! You couldn't pay me to watch Sex in the City. If it was me, I would toss anything that I thought promoted immorality or was disrespecting God in the trash bin. The Spirit of God knows what is in your heart. Peace, Mrs. SE
