Mofaz admits pullout didn't reduce terror

Israelis were promised greater security in return for retreat

Israeli Defense Minister Sha'ul Mofaz Sunday indirectly acknowledged that all the promises made to his countrymen about increased security and less terrorism in return for quitting the Gaza Strip and northern Samaria have proved false.

In the year leading up to the "disengagement," Israelis were repeatedly told that surrendering those areas would put Israel in a better position both militarily and diplomatically to defend itself, and would likely strengthen more "moderate" elements within the Palestinian Authority, leading to a natural decrease in Arab aggression.

But at Sunday's cabinet meeting, Mofaz painted a different picture, according to an official communique issued by the Prime Minister's Media Adviser:

"There has been a rise in the scope of terrorism, especially shooting and stabbing attacks in Judea and Samaria and rocket fire from the Gaza Strip."

Indeed, some 500 rockets and mortar shells have been fired from Gaza since the beginning of the year, and defense officials warn that intelligence indicates a fresh large-scale terror campaign, or intifada, is set to break out in Judea and Samaria.

Notwithstanding the evidence, Mofaz's boss, acting-Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, continues to march forward with his plan to outdo the Gaza pullout by uprooting 90 percent of the Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria and turning those lands too over to the nation's Islamic foes.

I agree, but they don't seem to be doing a whole lot of things that make sense lately. But, we know that all of this is working out God's plan for the last days.
