Shalom Angels, As a born-again Jew, I do follow Biblical Kosher laws, but not rabbinical. I do not mind mixing dairy and meat, but I do not eat "unclean" foods as described by G-d. I do believe that we are free to eat anything, except I don't think we are allowed to eat any strangled animals but who wants too ? I looked for charoset and found this recipe: Traditional Ashkenazi Charoset 2 cups chopped apples 2 cups chopped walnuts 2 teaspoons cinnamon 2 tablespoons sweet red wine Combine and refrigerate This website does answer aLso alot of my questions and yes I believe that potato dish is called "Kugel" ! I do believe that we are free to eat anything, except I don't think we are allowed to eat any strangled animals but who wants too ? If you are free to eat anything, you are free to eat strangled animals. You may not want to, but your "freedom" is either all or nothing. I was raised assimilated. It wasn't until I was much older that I got hooked on charoset. It keeps for a few days after Pesach. It always better the day after. So when I make it I make it the day before the seder. Gives the juice and everything to mix together really good. Yeah I wouldn't worry about the pork issue. You are free to eat as you choose. As far as I understand Jesus told us in the N.T. that we can eat everything and thank Him for it, there is nothing what makes us unclean what eneters our body but what comes out the body can! Shalom Angels, I go by the clean and unclean food designation in Leviticus. G-d lists what animals are for food and which ones are not. And I don't eat unclean foods because G-d said not to. You asked about Matthew 15. If you back up to verse 1-2, you'll see that Jesus is responding to a hand-washing issue, not a Kosher food issue. He was saying that just because someone doesn't wash their hands, that does not make what goes into them unclean. More than that, Jesus was showing the Pharisees that they only were looking at the outside, when Jesus said it was the HEART that made someone unclean, not unwashed hands. Mathew 15 1(A)Then some Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus (B)from Jerusalem and said, 2"Why do Your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they ©do not wash their hands when they eat bread." 3And He answered and said to them, "Why do you yourselves transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? 18"But (M)the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. 19"(N)For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. 20 "These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man." Usually charoset is eaten with the bitter herbs on maztah. the day after the seder it makes a wonderful snack either on a matzah or regular cracker or even by itself. It is really tasty. I have had a version that is made with honey, apples, nuts, raisons, cinnamon. It is really thick an gooey some folks I have known even throw in some seame seeds as well (don't ask me why) but it is all good. I think if you make it you will like it.
