I used to be able to let my kids sit and watch Boomerang, a classic cartoon station. Now they're intent on running in Pokemon and some new-agish cartoon of Superman on there. How sad. I'm with you there Ronald. Back in the day when my kids were little, Sesame Street, Barney and teletubbies were about the only thing I'd expose them to. And today, even childrens cartoons have violence in them that just makes me shake my head.

I used to like to watch some of the educational programs about home, interiors, gardening, & travel a little too much. Every once in a while A&E would put on a movie I wanted to watch. Then there was Fox News, which is not saying much. For what we spent on it every month and how much we watched it, it just wasn't worth the bill, not to mention all the filthy programming available and we were paying them money for that too, even though we avoided watching it. I wasted too much time watching TV when I felt convicted that I could be redeeming the time much more wisely, so no regrets there. I will watch the local christian TV station here(VCY) sometimes and catch the local newscast a few times a week and then there is a show every once and a while on PBS that I might catch, so it is less distracting now. BTW, I think Mr. Bean is bloody hilarious and Keeping Up Appearances almost as funny, just like the one fellas fancy to just throw it (TV)out the window. The commercials are often bad stuff, too. For a couple of months I would catch a local morning newscast and I had not seen the nightly newscast for quite some time. They had a sensational story about strippers and the footage they were playing made me turn it off. You would a thought it might be a scene from Coyote ugly(not that I saw the movie, but I seen it advertised and I know enough of what it was about). As far as our daughter is concerned, 1 hour of TV a day is more than sufficient usage in my opinion, and it must be parent approved. Some days she doesn't watch it all, and others she gets special permission to watch it longer, such as for a movie or a friend is over and they want to do a Little House on the Prairie marathon, or there is a worthwhile program on. Mostly she just picks out one of her dvd's for viewing. Usually she would rather read a book, play with her friends, or do a craft and I encourage that. We don't know much about what is in the new cartoons for kids now because every time I catch one for a minute or two I am so appalled that I just have to change the channel. Anyhow, there's very little on TV that isn't a waste of time or just plain filthy, so parents need to be on top of it and redirect the kids or yourself. Like that Vegas one, where the girl is dancing with the guy and looks at the camera and says "Sure I have rules, but I left themat home" UGH! I change the channel every time. it comes on Yeah, or the Smilin Bob? You know the one, sick! My mom came over the other day and she's like,"Do you know what that's for?", and I'm like,"Yeah, Ma.""That commercial comes on all the time and I just figured out what it's about yesterday", she says. She's so funny. I know what you mean, there are soooo many commercials that make me flick over! I don't know either of the ones mentioned above, but there are so many in the UK that are just plain horrible! Lynx are some of the worst ones I think. I remember when they're adverts were actually good, now they all have to be about sex. In recent years mens magazines have started being advertised frequently too. It's disgusting. Everything is full of sex and greed. Even my local radio station is getting pretty nasty. There was an advertisement today talking about how you might find the girl next door at our local strip club... I was shocked they would even play that on the radio. I think we all need to be careful with TV, almost everything on is bad for us spiritually...

CMT recently decided to start reshowing some of the old episodes of the show and I was SOOOOOO pleased, lol! When they show it during primetime hours, there's nothing indecent as far as commercials go. However if it being shown later on at night, they're constantly putting advertisements on during commercials for videos of Girls Gone Wild which, IMO, is nothing more than porn. Even the commercials themselves are, at best, soft porn! It's absolutely ridiculous. I also love to watch the St. Louis Cardinals on TV on Fox Sports Net. FSN has a show, one that they advertise heavily, entitled The Best D**n Sports Show Period I remember as a teen watching the ball game and one of the announcers saying that "you're d'd if you do and d'd if you don't." Al Hrabosky, the Card's broadcaster, jumped all over him saying that there were kids watching!!!! Now he sits there and advertises the show w/o one problem. How sad. My problem with this is that it isn't even late night all the time. I saw a show on the making of a porn movie on at 8:00PM!!! And the commercials get bad around 10:00... I think thats too early if they have to do it at all...

All of my children are Christians. It seems to have done them no harm, on the other hand some of the things they tell me that have been said and done at school in the past few years blow my mind!! My husband watches a lot of Hallmark channel,Walker Texas Ranger and Matlock.I on the other hand love the history, biography and discovery channels. My children never questioned what they could and couldn't watch, they would automatically know to change the channel or turn it off if cussing or nudity started. It was not acceptable.BIG rule in our house.
