I like to think that the glaciers slipping down and the breaking up is the sheer force of gravity. If you haven't got the right pitch on your roofing to allow surplus snow to slide off,. your roof collapses. Gas emissions? Just another red herring IMO. High mountain alps don't get any higher with all the snow that falls on them over the years, the surplus is shed down the sides.

When I lived in southeast Alaska, everywhere you looked were signs of glaciers retreating many years ago, long before global warming. What made them disappear? The earth has a lot of evidence of previous global warming that isnt linked to pollution or mans intervention.

HAHA are you really ignorant enough not to believe in global warming I bet your dad earns + 50k a year and tells you that there is freedom of speech and horrible "Liberals" exploit this to lie about environmental issues OPEN YOUR EYES DADDY TELLS LIES you believe anything you are told just because the truth scares you the only reason our parents generation denies global warming is Because THEY CAUSED IT ok so now we have that through your less then co-operative cranium next weeks lesson will be fighting the man 101.

To all the good christian folk out there I respect you and your rights to opinions but please don't follow this ignorant reign of garbage to convince you ino naff believes.

My dad was a Communist. He never earned more than $30,000 a year, and he has been dead for more than 20 years. (I'm a REALLY OLD guy!)

Yes, it is only because of my pathetic ignorance; not because of really researching the matter with all the best authorities; that I do not believe in global warming AT ALL. Much less that it is derived from human causation. You are right. Feel better now?

However, if I may prevail upon your kind indulgence a moment or two, let me list just as a matter of course, ONE fact to mitigate against your belief in global warming, to wit: Pray consider that even ONE relatively small volcanic eruption puts more so-called 'greenhouse gases' into the upper atmosphere IN A SINGLE HOUR, than mankind has produced in ALL OUR HISTORY. Seems to me we ought to be fining a volcano, not punishing SUV owners.......

Further, the climate of the earth has always changed for reasons we do not yet fully understand. For instance in A.D. 1000, the Vikings FARMED in Greenland and Iceland. You certainly can't farm there now, so there MUST have been a 'global warming' around A.D. 1000. Do you think it was caused by the Vikings driving around in their SUV's?

Oops, sorry! That was two facts. Most abject apologies. I trust it was not overly burdensome to you.

UMMMMMMMMM have you ever heard of the ozone layer you see over the course of human history as we destroy it the earth becomes hotter FACT

there is irafutible proof that tempatures have risen greatly in the last decade alone least we mention the previous three

my friend Ive been in prison I lived on the streets I have seen every kind of filthy horrible act known to man but you know what the worst one is..........seeing people like you shun the protection of this beautiful planet.

When the global warming community can produce hard data, they might get some more respect. It is claimed that if the ice on the earth melts, the sea level will rise as much as twenty meters. But if you calculate the total volume of ice on planet earth, double it, then account for the four percent reduction in volume of the "land based ice" upon melting, and the zero sea level change of melting the northern cap, because there is no land under it, the total net rise in earth's sea level is one and one half inches, when there is no ice left on earth.

If all of the scientists who allegedly research this, telling us that sea levels will rise, can't figure this out, why should we listen to them at all? The ozone layer is mysteriously repairing itself lately. Strange.

Management by crisis: Invent a crisis, cause mass hysteria, provide the solutions, get the political result, and collect the profits. Much cooler that ice caps.

Big Business says there\'s no global warming, therefor Republicans say there\'s no global warming, therefor we good Christians say there\'s no global warming. So what if the scientific data says the globe is warming.

A bunch of icebergs where they haven\'t been for a long time. Warmer weather caused them to break off from glaciers. We know ice means no global warming. Those liberals are just a bunch of liberals. So what if it\'s a documented fact that the glacier cover of the earth is diminishing.

Even after \"conservatives\" concede that the globe is warming, their next line of defense is \"it\'s not because of human activity.\" It is relatively easy to see something happening, and harder to pin-point the cause. But, it\'s also a fact that CO2 is a greenhouse gas. High-frequency sunlight can pass through it, but the resulting low-frequency heat is trapped by CO2.

A reasonable person would be concerned about the impact of human activity on the environment.

gotta be reasonable first and got no time for that with stone casting season ahead

who cares what happens after were all dead anyway? someone elses problem right??????????????

my friend Ive been in prison I lived on the streets I have seen every kind of filthy horrible act known to man but you know what the worst one is..........seeing people like you shun the protection of this beautiful planet.

My dear young fellow:

I have given you some FACTS to deal with. You have completely ignored these DOCUMENTED facts, and have instead responded to me only with opinion and as well had the affrontery to cast aspersion and undeserved calumny.

Find your manners, and I am perfectly willing to discuss this as much as you would like.

The first fact I gave you is that even small volcanoes introduce more greenhouse gases into the environment in a single hour than humankind has produced in all its history. Please explain how that the wee contribution of humanity is 'causing' global warming (which most scientists do NOT believe is happening anyway....), and natural vulcanism is not. That is a real puzzler for me and other people who have considered the issue closely.

The second fact I gave you was the fact that the earth was MUCH WARMER in A.D. 1000 even than it is today. If our use of fossil fuels is causing global warming today, then how do you explain the much greater global warming of A.D. 1000?

Thirdly, the majority of researchers believe that the 'global warming' nonsense is simply hysteria whipped up by "junk science," and some 8,000 researchers in the field have signed a letter to the President saying they believe that global warming--if it even exists--IS NOT anthrogenetic in character. These are 8,000 specialists whose incomes do not depend on a particular answer to the questions at hand, whereas the purveyors of this global warming, 'chicken little' hysteria, ALMOST TO A MAN are making money off keeping it going! Does this not strike you as at least a little suspect?

Fourthly, far from there being 'irrefutable proof that the tempatures have risen greatly in the last decade alone,' the best indications are that world-wide temperatures have increased 1/4 to 1/2 a degree in the last 100 years, and that most of THAT rather miniscule rise was in the years prior to 1940, when automobiles were something of a rarity, and before the great industrial buildup of the World War II era. Remember that it was in the early 1990's I believe that it SNOWED IN THE PERSIAN GULF for the first time in history!!! Boy that darned 'global warming' sure seems to be unpredictable......

Fifthly, the scientific community is very much divided on the much-ballyhoo'd 'hole in the ozone layer.' We have only been able to observe it for a very short period of time, and it grows larger and smaller in an way which thusfar is entirely unpredictable, and for causes ENTIRELY UNKNOWN. It is only the money-interested parties whose speculations blame anything human beings do or have done for the behavior of the ozone layer.

At no time have I been less than entirely polite with you, so I await your most courteous and thoughtful responses.

With a blessing,

Also worth pointing out that the term "global warming" is somewhat inaccurate - the issue we are dealing with is more correctly called "anthropogenic climate change." There has been debate in the last decade or so about the cyclic nature of climate change (which is the rule rather than the exception for nature anyway), but there is certainly a scientific consensus at this point that, since the Industrial Revolution, climate has been heavily affected by the anthropogenic release of greenhouse gases. Keep in mind too that climate change doesn't necessarily mean warming everywhere - some places are expected to first get much cooler while sea levels rise and temperatures become higher on average.
