Excellent!

To me, gambling is buying nothing but a chance. What is that? You work hard for your money and then buy nothing with it? Weird.

I agree.

The bottom line is simply that big time; institutional gambling is just plain sleazy. We have scratch off tickets and there is nothing more pathetic than to see these poor people hunkered down at the convenience store frantically buying scratch of ticket after ticket, and yet my own state is promoting this! This same sleaze factor is present from the lowest level to the glitzy casinos, at its core it is of the dark side; you just can't get around it.

Look at Vegas I can't come up with a city that comes closer to a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah. I mean their marketing campaign is "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas", they are proud to be sleazy to call us to our darkest and most sinful urges.

I couldn't agree more. If only we could take your post and have it submitted to our local newspapers. I believe it would make the "gambler" think about what he/she is doing, not only to him/herself but to their loved ones. I believe gambling is an illness and these poor souls and their families need our prayers. May Our Lord help them and send more people like you with this urgent message, so they can turn their lives around.

God Bless.

I don't know how it works but anyone certainly has my permission to send it to their local paper - I did a while ago. One of the papers I sent it to refused to publish it because there were to many Bile quotes and the Editor thought that the Bible was a controversial book????!!! You have may permission to send it with my name or yours... Let's be light and salt!

Politics, is what it boils down to. I recently received a pamphlet on how much the casino's give back to the community (which is hogwash). I think they should send out a graph stating the statistics on how many lives/family's they have ruined. I know 2 family's personally. These were/are good people, they had difficulty in there lives and were desperate. With all the creative marketing out there...they got pulled in for a short time. That short time created a very tragic future.

we'll have to be creative as well, and find another way!!

When the first casinos were allowed onto the Mississippi Gulf Coast, I believe it was around '92 or '93 they were going to work wonders for the school system.

Guess what? We still have the lowest paid teachers in the U.S and they are still arguing and wondering where the money will come from to raise their pay. Go figure

I thought I'd post the link to another past thread that ran here on Worthy:

Gambling... is it wrong?

I've lived and worked in Vegas [almost 17 yrs] and yes it can be very sleazy. The gambling and convention industry invites many distructive sub-culture groups as well... Drugs, prositution [even though it is not legal in clark county it does exist], pornography [strip clubs nasty billboards, flyers etc.], thieves, Hollywood, sex offenders, you name it they all come here to get lost in the crowd.

I'm sick of it all, If I could afford to move out of state I would... A couple of acres in southern Idaho would be nice.... dreaming of getting back to nature.

The only ones this sleezy industry gives back to is the people that own the casions. It will kill a marriage, people loose their homes and when this demon is living in ones life it can lead to sucide. I have no use for Las Vegas, or any of the states that houses indian casions. In my mind it is one of the biggest tools of the enemy there is.

OK i gotta add my two cents. i live in vegas, and i love it here. gambling is a huge problem and a very addicting one, but not everyone who gambles has or will have a problem with it. just as some people are resistant to other addictions. a person can gamble responsibly.

i enjoy playing blackjack. my husband enjoys playing poker. we do both on the video slot machines once in a while. on those occasions, we do it for entertainment. we set a limit. maybe it'll be $5 each that night... maybe it'll be $20. i think one time we actually set ourselves a $40 limit. (that was the one time we played at a table instead of the video machines.)

in that sense, we know what we're going to spend, and if we win, great... it's usually only a few bucks, and we don't even cash in the quarters... we bring them home to put in our change jar. most often we play til we run out. that $5 may provide us with an hour and a half of fun. it's an enjoyable evening out, and costs less than a movie or dinner.

as with many things that are addictive, it's not the activity that's bad, it's the motive, the intent, the misuse and abuse that is bad.
