Shalom prcfighter, It is important for many reasons. Jesus was baptized. Jesus commands us to be baptized. We are baptized into His death so we can walk in the newness of life. Water baptism does not save us, but it is the outward profession of the spiritual baptism that has occurred in our hearts. Romans 6 3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. In the Old Testament examples, baptism represented identification and immersion. So in baptism we can rejoice that we are called to be identified with Jesus Christ and that we have the privilege of being immersed in His goodness. Ok now that you posted this verse can you explain what it means? Explain repents. Remember that this is a synechdoche or the word represents a whole process. Guest Beak
I liken baptism to marriage. Just as a couple in love should get married and not just "shack up" together long term, neither should a new christian refrain too long in getting baptised. Both are public commitments. The former declares publicly your love for a woman, and the other declares your love for Christ. In both cases the relevant sacrement should make a special impact on your life to look back on. As christians, we believe all the sacrements that are given by the church are ordained and inspired by God; they are, in fact, for our benefit, not God's.
