Would you be willing to share what significance Communion (bread and wine) has in your Church?

Does your Pastor use the words of Jesus, at the Last Supper, during the service?

What do they mean to you?

Is Jesus present? If so, in what way?

I know this could easily turn ugly; and I trust the mods will shut it down if it does.

But, for starters, could we try to state what we believe and avoid the temptation of arguing against what someone else believes?

Thanks,

Fiosh

We have communion every Sunday, yes they always read Jesus's words from the last supper. We believe Jesus is there with us, and we do it in rememberance.

We have communion the first Sunday of each month. The Pastor, or the Senior's Pastor usually paraphrases or quotes the scriptures about the Last Supper. Communion is always such a wonderful and humbling moment, when you are reminded of just exactly how much a sacrifice Christ made for each of us. What an awesome act he performed, just for me, and you, and each one of us.

AMEN & AMEN!

Amen. And He knew exactly how horrific it would be. What love!

Beautiful, Cobalt.

We have communion the first Sunday of every month. My mother and her new husband come from Columbus to worship with us that Sunday.

This time, since it was the third anniversary of the inception of our church we read our Church Covenant together. It was very moving. Last month Pastor talked about true conversion, this month he taught us about making things right with someone before you come to communion. And the Biblical manner of approaching a Brother who has wronged you.

Our Deacons serve communion to us, bread first then juice. Once they have passed the plates they sit down and Pastor serves them. It's really no big thing but so symbolic to me. Like the way Jesus washed the feet of his disciples.

It's very quiet in the church while we sit with our "Bread" or "Cup" waiting for Pastor to read God's word. The Words Jesus spoke. Then we all partake together. True Unity. One body, one mind, one spirit. All with the Lord. How meager the bread and cup are compared to the wedding feast of the Lamb. Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God Almighty!

Anyway, then we sing a hymn, sometimes in unison with no music. And I think this is the passage Pastor reads to us before the service ends.

Romans 16:25-26 25 Now to him who is able to establish you by my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, 26 but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all nations might believe and obey him

We have comunion about 4 times a year, but on no particularly scheduled Sunday. The bread and juice are held by members of the church at the front of the church and the rest of the congregation files past, rips a piece of bread from the loaf of bread and takes the small glass (like a shot glass that is used widely in churches) of juice back to our seats. Then the Pastor will recite Paul's communion instructions to the Corinthian church (in 1 Corinthians) often expounding on the price Jesus really paid for sins and the healing aspect of the comunion we have with Jesus. He will then eat the bread and drink the juice which then the church follows.

My only disagreement is with the juice, a holdover from our Southern Baptist roots. Jesus drank wine at the last supper, not juice as the Greek plainly makes clear. It is somewhat doubtful that Jesus ate unleavened bread at the last supper, because He dipped a piece of the bread in the wine (called a "sop") and gave this to Judas and then told him to quickly do what he had planned to do. It's hard to make a "sop" out of unleaven bread, but this point is really not worth disputing, it just explains why I have no objection to leavened bread as opposed to unleaven bread at the Lord's table.

Can you talk a little bit about the sacredness (or not) of the Communion service in your church? Also, what is your belief of how (or not) Jesus is present in the worship or the bread & juice?

Peace,

Fiosh

Sure, Fiosh, be glad to. The event of Comunion is a very sacred event to us even though we are not at all traditional in our celebration. And Jesus is very much in residence as He is in most (wish all) of our services. We, however, do not subscribe to the doctrine of Transubstantiation, where the actual wine and bread becomes the blood and body of Christ.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
