That mindset is seemingly no different than parents who instruct their kids not to drink or smoke because it's bad for them, yet all the while the kids are watching the parents DO that very thing. It's hypocrisy at it's best/worst? So, if we are a generation watching filth, and then we say, "hey, but that's no good for kids to watch", what's the difference? If it's smut, it's smut. If it's immoral, it's immoral, so why have it? We can't tell our kids, "no you can't watch that, when we're watching smut", and expect them to understand THAT type of reasoning.

In His Love,

Suzanne

No, he doesn't. He gave us a brain to use, and to determine what is and what isn't worth our time.

For one thing, i wasted all of two hours on the BOM before i determined it wasn't fit for using as toilet paper. Didn't need God to tell me it was trash

By BOM, do you mean the Book of Mormon?

Many years ago, when I was a teen, I saw the Book of Mormon on the shelf at the bookmobile, so I picked it up to leaf through it. Immediately, I started to feel dreadfully sick to my stomach. I put the book back, and the sickness left. I realized the LORD was telling me not to even look at that thing.

I have also had the LORD tell me not to watch a certain TV show, because I was making an idol of the show. My whole week revolved around 'Oh, it's nearly Thursday night, when My Show comes on!' (or whatever night it was - I don't even remember anymore). Now, my mom could watch that show with no problem, and often did. I would stay in my room if she was watching it, so I wouldn't hear the audio of it and get sucked in.

So I would say from my personal experience - Yes, the LORD does care what we watch and what we read.

:P

sure you can. tell the kids its inappropriate material for their age. Once they are 18 and out of the house, thats their choice to make once their on their own. You really think they won't be exposed to this outside your home. Your going to be sadly mistaken! Kids pick up most of this from friends and aquaintances at school.

I never had porn mags in my house. yet all of my kids managed to get their hands on one from other kids at school or church.

I have found that if you isolate them from the things you do not want them to do, guess what. their going to do them and if you don't think they will, then your sooo naive!

Once you make something taboo, that only encourages kids to go see whats taboo about it!

And I can assure you, kids KNOW hypocrisy, when they see it! Don't sell them short.

And i'll assure you that if you try to isolate them from it, they will go out and seek it the first chance they get!

its not hypocrisy when your an adult doing a LEGAL activity requiring your children to NOT do a adult activity because their not a legal adult. they can respect that more than they can respect anyone isolating them from it!

How many preachers daughters and sons are parents before their married? How many preachers daughters and sons do drugs? I'll tell you. 95% of them have had sex and have done drugs in some form or another and their parents were the ones who isolated their kids from the world.

If we are guided by the Holy Spirit, and we know that the Spirit can be grieved, and we are told by this same Spirit of God not to watch something then we should not watch it. And if we are adults and dont watch it, then we should not let our children watch it.

We have to at least make the effort to raise our children in the admonition of the Lord. After we have done that, when they are matured its up to them what they watch.

And you are making assumptions, that you couldn't possbily back up as fact. This is a fallacy, that the enemy loves for us to presume true, so that we will refrain from bringing up our children knowing good from evil....just because we think our kids may or may not abide in goodness and righteousness, by no means exempts us from teaching our children right from wrong. The enemy loves for us to say, "oh well, they'll end up doing it regardless of what we keep from them, they'll do it anyway."

Sorry, I DON'T buy it! But, even if were so, I'll still continue to condone the good and pure, and reprove the vile and immoral. And put no "unclean thing" before OUR eyes as a family. These things are right and good as the Lord commands, and I believe HIM.

In His Love,

Suzanne

Your making assumptions that i am assuming. I have raised 6 kids. I have isolated some and not the others when i realized that isolating them is a detriment to them. The first thing they do once their out of sight is to go see the world taht we isolate them from. If any parent believes your kids won't smoke pot, and won't have sex their an idiot and their kids know their idiots.

too many parents screw up by not talking about sex, and not talking about drugs and use of drugs, and isolating their kids from anything of the world and the next thing you hear is: I didn't dream they would do that. we raised them by Gods word, and they still did this or that. Parents need to wake up to the fact that their kids are going to do what they want to do when they get out of their parents control. ALL parents can do is show the kids what is going on in the world, tell them yes you can go have sex and you can smoke dope but they need to show them there are consequences to their actions.

I totally agree with the above.......but what makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE, is to talk candidly about why they shouldn't participate in these activities because they are so bad for them, and THEN IMMERSE THEM IN MEDIA IMAGES OF THESE THINGS EVERY DAY, as if they ARE ACCEPTABLE!!!???? How schizophrenic is that?

Tell them, and tell them not to do these very things, and then fill your home with images every night of the very things you're preaching against??? Yeah, that makes sense. :o

And again I say, no wonder this generation of kids is SO CONFUSED.

In His Love,

Suzanne

I didn't say i filled my home with images, nor did i suggest that. I am only saying no matter how pure you keep your home, their going to be exposed to it anyway outside of the home.

And i have found that telling them not to do it isn't enough. their going to ask you why. And because i said so isn't enough. AND even though you give valid good reasons why not to, their still going to succumb to the peer pressure out there. Hopefully they won't catch something in the process.

That peer pressure is stronger than any parental relationship you build with your children. you have no hope of keeping them safe unless you do something most people won't do. ONe is to develop a trust that you cannot ever break no matter how scared or mad you get. Have a agreement with them that they will tell you if their considering making a life altering decision like having sex or doing drugs or drinking ect.

How you handle it will determine whether or not you lose them. IF you get all preachy, and uptight, then they won't come to you and talk. Frankly leave religion out of it. concentrate on the social issue and consequences first. they already know the religious view, and aren't interested in hearing it. Give them choices. SHow them that if they choose to lets say have sex, show them the consequences of it but also show them the social benefits of not having sex. then your going to have to leave it up to them cause if they want to have sex, you can't stop them.

Oh btw, the first channel i blocked on my tv was MTV.
