You shouldn't have killed it. If I know my spiders (and I used to be scared of them too), that one if it's about the size of an old silver dollar was known as a Wolf spider, and one of their most major benefits to the world is that they consume cockroaches. Get to know them, cultivate them as friends, because if you have cockroaches, they are it's natural enemy. When there's no more roaches, they die. And, they're as scared of you as you are of them! Talk later, my friend... Anita

A few weeks ago I found a little one hanging off my glasses (while they were on my head!) and it didn't bother me that much. But this guy was just so huge. Maybe next time I see one I can try to carry it outside on a piece of paper or something, thats kind of facing it Anita, I would agree that it's a wolf-spider. I don't know my spiders that well but I know more than some. Although I don't have cockroaches (I've never seen one in the province I live in, let alone my house) so I wasn't too worried about it keeping them away. Spiders are the only bugs in my house besides the occasional fly. And for what it's worth, I toughed it out and slept in my room instead of my brothers. I often pick up the smaller ones, and I would love to handle a tarantula, since they are more like pets than scary monsters. But it's the 'in-between' ones that freak me out. Especially when you are confronted by one unawares. I admit I do often kill spiders by spraying them with some household chemical, but, if I can, I capture it and release it outside. I'd just rather not have to deal with them.

I would invest in something eletronic that drives spiders, mice and other pests out. We have one and it really works, didn't have a single bug or anything in the house last year. It' plugs into an outlet and goes through the wiring of your house. It won't hurt a dog or cat or a bird, but the pests can't stand it. Don't get a cheap one but spend about $60 for one. To me it's worth it for the piece of mind.
