Any man who wishes to be an overseer in a church must follow certain requirements.
Ok, I'm not one.

Thank God.

I'm wondering how many women take more than one husband. :whistling:

It would be a moral wrong to do so.

Not only that it would be a sin. The sin of Adultery.

Heres more technical, a literal more of a word for word translation:

4the wife over her own body hath not authority, but the husband; and, in like manner also, the husband over his own body hath not authority, but the wife.

Beware of translations that miss the mark!

Well,OK it says also. They have authority over each other equally, if you really want to get technical about it.

Yes, the husband over the wife and the wife over the husband.

I like the NLT translation

The wife gives authority over her body to her husband, and the husband also gives authority over his body to his wife.

I DO!

What came out of the desert was a people God had forged and a culture he had forged to fit his standards.

Not true. The matter then is much more complex than you portray it to be which I don't have the time nor passion for. You wanna know what God has forged though? A NEW community of men and women wherein Jesus' endorsement (in the beginning God made them male and female...and for this reason the two not 10 that is, polygamy, shall become one) is upheld wherein each one, the husband and the wife has authority over the other's sexuality.

Where just not in the desert anymore. We've been called to repentence.

8)Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning.
So is the phrase "Moses permitted" an honorific as I hold it to be, or is it a declaration that Moses was a false prophet, as you seem to be hinting? Either the law was from God through Moses or it was not.

Also, completely aside from the destruction of Moses being a false prophet, how is Joseph, husband of Mary "Just" in his action to divorce her? Why does God depict himself as getting an ungodly divorce in Jeremiah 3?

Those words came from God Himself. I'm not hinting anything but Fear the Word of the Lord.

That "divorce" was articulated that way because it "fit" the understanding of that generation and the many to come.

It was an analogy.

Polygyny ~ 1.the practice or condition of having more than one wife at one time.

Polygamy ~ 1.the practice or condition of having more than one spouse, esp. wife, at one time.

They words are not synonyms? They sound like the same meaning to me!

Polyandry is practiced by a few cultures. In this case a woman has more than one husband. Spouse is generic, refering to either a husband or wife. Polygyny focuses only on the case of a man having more than one wife, not on a woman having more than one husband, which is Polygamy as well.

How many men does anyone know here, that would be willing to be the second, third, fourth. . . etc. husband to one woman!? :whistling:

My friend, you are playing semantics, both words mean the same thing, spouse of more than one spouse. A woman having several husbands or a man having several wives.

And, of course you did not answer my question. Are you in favor or not of a person having more than one spouse?

BTW, Moses permitted nothing without the permission of God. He was God's advocate, therefore his authority came from God.

We've been called to repentence.
Of what?

Hugh McBryde

For our sins of ignorance for one, like that of being a polygamist.

Acts 17

24"The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. 25And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. 26From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. 27God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 28'For in him we live and move and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.'

29"Therefore since we are God's offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone

Oh, mine wouldn't be ignorance firehill. It's entirely possible that I have read the scriptures front to back more times than all the anti polygyny posters in this thread combined.

Now, I challenge you. Show me the naming of Polygyny as a sin.

Hugh McBryde

The Lord has one bride. God created a marriage of monogomy in the beginning which the Lord endorsed. He's the example to be followed, not any man.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
