There is a new show on (already cancelled it appears) called Masters of Science Fiction. I watched an episode that aired on the 11th titled The Awakening. In it, two soldiers in Iraq, one Iraqi and one US, encounter a humanoid being after it hits a US helicopter and causes it to crash. Initially opposed to one another, they can suddenly understand what each other is saying even though they are speaking two different languages. Fast forward a bit and the two are in some suspended state and are in a military installation back in the US, along with the being who is being studied- its DNA is apparently human with one chromosome missing, the one that determines gender.

Well, some of you may have an idea where this is headed. Anyway, more of the beings turn up all over the world and send more people into catatonic states, and they issue an ultimatum for the entire planet to disarm and live at peace with one another or else. Beings from another planet, or something else? They quote scripture from the Bible and other religious texts through the catatonic people (all saying/writing the same thing at the same time) and many assume it is God making this demand- almost sounds like it, right? With the understanding of tongues, the peaceful message, and use of religious texts and all. Now of course, this being network television it is the universal god of all religions with Jesus unmentioned. I was disappointed in this generic god, though it was hardly unexpected.

What also disappointed me was the clear leftist message that the US is the only aggressor in the civilized world. You see, all the nations leaders are teleconferencing about what's happening and all the nations except the US have come to an agreement to listen to the message and disarm. The US is apparently the only nation that won't capitulate and wants to attack these beings (actually large globes that have also appeared to bring teeth to their ultimatum) before their missiles become useless (the plutonium in the missiles is slowly becoming inert, a few missiles at a time). In the end, under threat of all the other nations who are ready to attack the US if we don't also stand down, the US does just that and the show ends with the beings rising up, unfurling angelic wings, bearing large smiles and disappearing, taking their globes with them. The world is at peace, but the plutonium has become active once again and the question is asked of how long this will last. Thus ends the show.

Did anyone else see this? Were you as disappointed as I was? The watered-down religious message and US=evil, everyone else=good message?

I haven't seen it but it runs along the rest of the themes in movies and tv shows. The closer we get to end times, the more convincing the "conspiracy theories". It's an antichrist tactic and we need to hold fast to our belief in Jesus and "faint not".
