In 1 cor 11 are women not told to wear head coverings. I would like to get some opinions happening.

So leave a message after the beep. :t2:

1 Corinthians 11

1Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.

Propriety in Worship

2I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the teachings,[1] just as I passed them on to you.

3Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. 4Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. 5And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head--it is just as though her head were shaved. 6If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head. 7A man ought not to cover his head,[2] since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. 8For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; 9neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. 10For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head.

11In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. 12For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God. 13Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, 15but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. 16If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice--nor do the churches of God.

If anyone would also like to keep track of this topic on MSN please give me a buzz

Post and run or not. This is a good question imo. I've wondered why women don't cover their head in church.

ok I believe we covered this ground before in several threads but here goes.

(5) if any woman phrophesies or prays without a covering she dishonors her head. That means she dishonors her husband who is head of her and responsible for her. Her husband is accountable to Christ which is the head of man and Christ to God as God is Lord of all.

It goes on that if she does without a covering on her head it is like she is shorn or bald. It says that she should cut off her hair if she does not wear a covering.

(10) goes on to say that a woman should wear a covering on her head as a sign of authority over her head. I take that to mean that a woman should wear a devotional covering to symbolize the relationship of the head woman under man, man under Christ, Christ under God.

As to women using their long hair as a covering I believe that although it is technically a covering of sorts it does not necessarily signify a sign of authority on her head. A woman who wears a devotional covering or vieling is showing everyone where she stands in the order of headship and honors God by doing so.

Now I know not everyone will see this same thing and that is ok. For a woman who does wear a covering it should be from conviction that it is what God wants her to wear not be forced to wear. I wear a devotional covering during my waking hours. Why? Because during my waking hours I will pray off and on during the day and I feel that God wants me to honor Him by doing so. I am not afraid to signify my position concerning headship because I know that God honors me for showing obediance to the order of headship. Many women who do not wear a covering either do not feel as strongly about this as I do or they feel foolish for being different fro the world. Well God did tell us not to conform to the world and to Be ye seperate and this is just one more sign that I am unique in the eyes of God and in the world at large.

I already had desert from another Thread thanx any way.

Back to the topic.

I have done some research on head coverings and I though I would share. I know that at first I struggled with it so maybe I can help someone else.

If you read through the whole passage the word cover is used quite frequently. The Greek translation for all these words (apart from vs 15) is to hide, conceal and can potentially mean anything, not a material covering. (i.e. Hair) It is from the Greek word kalapto. If you then replace these words with hair it makes a lot more sense. Verse 15 however actually means a material covering and is correctly translated as:

15 but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her instead of a material covering. The word for covering her is peribolaion=material covering.

Then in verse 16 the correct translation is

16 If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no such practice- nore do the churches of God.

Such is from the Greek word toiauthn. It is no translated as other.

So if you read through this all again it will make sense. Head coverings or long hair was a cultural thing for the Corinthians as the women who wore short hair were prostitutes and where showing so by cutting their hair short. However it no longer applies to us as vs 16 says

Well I had always thought the long hair thing too. But I had always seen it as a woman pretending to be a man, and a man pretending to be a woman, which we know of course is not right. However, the thing about prostitutes makes a lot more sense because of the state of Corinth in that time. My Bible compares Corinth to Times Square of New York, Bourbon Street in New Orleans, North Beach in San Francisco, and Las Vegas. Thought that was pretty funny. ;) So yeah I'd agree it was most probably referring to sexual immorality more than a way of worship.

If women are supposed to have long hair, how long should it be? (Just a question as a spark of interest :t2: )

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
