The spirit is that eternal part of us that is in communication with the Holy Spirit.

John,

I think there's an almost "electric" component to it...I know that sounds funny...but I have prayed in really intense prayers sessions with other spirit-filled people and I could feel something like an electrical current seeming to flow through me...a sense of power...Hard to explain.

I also notice this whenever I am being compelled by the Lord to do something important...whether it's helping a homeless person or something God is directing me to do..there's an invisible force or something...(hard to describe).

So what you're saying makes sense to me there...

Greetings All,

Joh 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life.

Rom 8:10 And if Christ [be] in you, the body [is] dead because of sin; but the Spirit [is] life because of righteousness.

2Co 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

Gal 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

Rev 11:11 And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.

My thoughts go to a new born baby. The "soul" that makes him different from the dust, is what the Bible calls a "living being". KJV says:

Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Undoubtedly it was the breath (spirit) of God upon the dust that created this "life".

Now a baby has only physical needs. It is solely concerned with itself. From the moment it is born, and in fact before that in the womb, this baby's "spirit" begins to take form. A mother listening to hard rock during fetal development has just the opposite effect on the baby of a mother who listens to quiet or religious oriented music. What goes into a mother, whether it be music, food, drugs etc. - all have an effect on the formation of this child, including its SPIRIT.

I'm sure you all have seen pictures of Biafra babies, all maciated, with no "spirit" in their eyes. Sometimes they are referred to as being without a soul, but that is not true, because they ARE alive, but their SPIRIT is dead. They have NO life in them. No spark of motivation to do anything but to lay there quietly and just die.

A child reared under wretched parents instill in that child an image of themselves. A spirit with a tendency toward being wretched. In conjunction with this the Lord says "Raise up a child in the way he should go...." If you want an evil child, then you will raise him wickedly. But if you want a Godly child, you will raise him up in the admonition of the Lord. The SPIRIT in that child will develop according to a lot of factors, but they firstly and mainly come from the parents/guardians.

Blessings,

Dad Ernie

DE: I've never heard of Biafra babies. I did a Google search and all I found was references to either children in Africa or Africa or an atheist group with really vulgar lyrics about abortion and the Lord Jesus...*pretty evil site..stay out.

I found nothing of what you were talking about...where did you hear about this?

Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

That's the verse I wanted. I think this shows that the dust of the flesh plus the spirit of the breath of life from God combine to create the soul,. The soul is your complete being, body and spirit. In the resurrection the dead in Christ receive their bodies again whole and restored, just like Jesus was after his resurrection, having flesh and bone.

What exactly is the difference between the soul and the spirit of a man?

I haven't found anything in scripture to explain exactly what they are...

I have been "told" that the spirit is the mind, will and emotions of a man but I sure can't find anything in scripture that actually tells us what the soul is or what the spirit is.

I only find conjecture by human beings...and they seem to disagree with each other.

I kinda thought that we have a "spirit body" that separates from the physical body at time of death.

I figured that the "soul" was a permanent recording of our mental capacity that goes with the spirit at time of "departure".

But I can't find anything in scripture to substantiate that.

I'd appreciate ANY enlightenment on this subject... :t2:

The soul refers to our spiritual body.

The spirit means the particular characteristics of a person, kind of the essence of the person.

So in other words, when we talk about "saving souls" or "getting souls saved", it means their whole being, since after the resurrection they are once again body and spirit and living in the heavenly realm with Jesus.

I found these verses in the New Living Translation fascinating>....

2 Corinthians 12:1-4

1 This boasting is all so foolish, but let me go on. Let me tell about the visions and revelations I received from the Lord. 2 I was caught up into the third heaven fourteen years ago. 3 Whether my body was there or just my spirit, I don't know; only God knows. 4 But I do know that I was caught up into paradise and heard things so astounding that they cannot be told.

This has nothing really to do with what all of you are talking about but I would like to shed some light on this scripture...who knows maybe it will help out...did you know if you traced back in history to the moment he was talking about, that event was when he was stoned outside of town in ACTS..now we know that when someone is being stoned they do not stop till your dead..hence the reason disciples gathered around him and prayed..so he was in fact dead as a door nail when this happened, though he himself was unsure...and might I say...whom among us would be....

Ecclesiastes 12:6

Two more Scriptures that may cast some light on the subject:

1 Corinthians 15:42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

James 2:26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

Saved: That's the verse I was looking for...about the spiritual body.. Thanks!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
