The case raises the wider issue of the importance of strengthening the rights of children to know the identities of their biological parents, including kids who were born through in vitro fertilization, Alton has said.

INDEED!

I don't know what the big deal is about this. Marriages and children conceived between siblings or close relatives is only a problem if it persists for generations, i.e. if a brother and sister's children grow up and marry their own brothers and sisters, then any "bad" genes in the family would be perpetuated, and this is pretty unlikely in this day and age where people don't spend generation after generation in the same town.

Marriages between relatives must have occurred a lot in the past, unknowingly. Some years ago a girl I knew decided to trace her family tree as her husband had finished doing his. She found that the two families had been related by marriage in the past three times and then drifted away. She actually found to her surprise that her and her husband's great grandmothers had been sisters. And this had nothing to do with sperm donors or IVF treatment, just people not talking to each other so much.

Well, as a Christian, from a Biblical perspective, God said don't do it. That's good enough for me.

Amen.

Besides, it sounds pretty yucky.

They say that twins tend to think alike...

Guess the idea of a blood test isn't such a bad idea after all. I had a cousin, who's mother was adopted, that would not take a blood test in case her future husband was a relative!

I do believe strongly that kids should be told at young ages that they are adopted and about their biological parents. We are going through this right now in our family.

How odd. It does raise not only moral and ethical questions, but theological ones as well.

Makes me wonder if man should be tinkering around "down there" in any way.

I feel bad for the twins. They met and fell in love with each other and probably had "marital relations" before finding out they were twins. They are the true victims of this tinkering and it's just an awful situation for everyone involved.
