  1. It may not be right, but there is likely some truth to that. People in such relationships have to deal with a lot of prejudice. Were there any cultural differences that created problems in your relationship? Not really. The main factor was his pulling away from me due to family pressure. He didn't have the strength to stand up to his families wishes for his life. In my opinion, if he really loved and wanted to be with me, he would have told his family so, and that would have been that. In a way I can understand his family wanting to see him have an easier life without the pressure that comes with an interracial relationship...but heck...life IS hard.
  2. My last boyfriend is African-American, and one of the reasons our relationship ended was not from pressure from my family, but his. They assumed he would be more happier, and have a less troubled filled life, if he dated within his own race.
  3. Twins Save Mom's Life, Kick Loose Deadly Tumor From Mom's Cervix While Still in Womb Many mothers cherish the first kicks they feel from their unborn babies. But unknown to one U.K. mother, the kicking she felt from the twins growing inside her actually saved her life, according to a report from the Daily Mail. Michelle Stepney, 35, said her twins Alice and Harriet, now age 13 months, were a lively pair in the womb. At the time, however, she had no idea that constant kicking she felt actually dislodged a tumor that had formed on her cervix and, according to doctors, saved her life. Shortly after becoming pregnant, Stepney of Cheam in South-West London was taken to the hospital after suffering what was believed to be a miscarriage. Soon doctors realized she was still pregnant, but had developed life-threatening cervical cancer. Stepney declined to have an abortion and doctors at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London agreed to give her reduced chemotherapy in the hope of stopping the cancer spreading during the pregnancy. But it wasn't the chemo that ultimately saved Stepney. "I couldn't believe it when the doctors told me that the babies had dislodged the tumor," she said. "I'd felt them kicking, but I didn't realize just how important their kicking would turn out to be. I owe my life to my girls, and that's why I could have never agreed with a termination." 4. Ummm, if God doesn't know the future, what was the purpose of prophecy? Are fulfilled prophecies just coincidence? Should we just chuck prophecies yet to be fulfilled? Should we toss the whole book of Revelation, as it speaks of events yet to occur? "The bible is approximately 40% prophecy. There are nearly 8,000 verses of prophecy in the bible. Of those nearly 8,000 verses, 90% of them have come to pass with excruciating accuracy. The remaining 10% are either in the works now, or will be coming to pass soon. Only God can tell our entire trajectory of history from the beginning to the end. And God has not been wrong yet. God's prophetic program has proven to be precise and exact." God Himself says that prophecy is a proof that He does indeed know the future: "Let these idols come forward and foretell the future for us. Let them declare the meaning of these past events that we may reflect on it; let them predict the future to us that we may know what it holds. Declare what is yet to happen; then we shall know you are gods" (Isaiah 41:22-23)
  5. It was a really good read. Now that I've read this thread, I'm gonna go dig it out and read it again!
  6. Would a verse from the KJV suit you? "For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things." Now pay attention... The scripture doesn't say "some" things...or a "few" things....ALL things! Entienda?
  7. For me, the best way to pray to God is talk to him as you would your friend. I leave the "thee's" and "thou's" out of it, and I just blab. God is interested in your day to day life. A good example of this is when I'm out driving. I'll just be talking to God and say things like, "Wow Lord...the roads are pretty icy today. Keep an eye on me, will ya?" And, "God, look at how that guy is driving. Keep him, and us safe, please." Or, "Neat! I really like this song on the radio! I wonder what your favorite song is? Thanks for the gift of music! If I didn't have that, driving would be a total bore!" You don't have to really think about what you are going to say....just yack!
  8. Wow! We know something God doesn't know. I guess we have one up on him. Coolies! By that reasoning, we are better than God at something. Hmmmm...I wonder if God's curiousity will ever get the better of him and he will ask one of his creation (us) who beat those nasty Germans in WW2.... Thinking along your lines, weather forecasters must AWE God......
  9. I don't think anyone has a right to tell you how you should express your emotions at a funeral. If you want to cry, you should cry. If you feel the need to be quiet, then that's fine too. Let everyone show grief in their own way.
  10. I don't as much division as a I see diversity. Unity is not the absence of diversity or differing opinions. What some people classify as "unity" is really nothing but conformity of thought. Everyone has to conform to ONE point of view, whether they really believe it or not. That is not unity. In what I have seen being passed for "unity," it ususally amounts to everyone being expected to surrender their freedom to think for themselves and submit one point of view, but who wants to do the surrendering? Unity is the ability to work together in a genuine spirit of goodwill in spite of differences. Shiloh, you need to get off these boards and get into the pulpit. I swear, you would make an awesome pastor! Now get going!
  11. Bombers Kill at Least 73 in Baghdad Remote-controlled explosives strapped to two mentally retarded women By KIM GAMEL,AP BAGHDAD (Feb. 1) -- Remote-controlled explosives strapped to two mentally retarded women detonated in a coordinated attack on pet bazaars Friday, police and Iraqi officials said, killing at least 73 people in the deadliest day since the U.S. sent 30,000 extra troops to the capital last year. U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker said the bombings showed that a resilient al-Qaida has "found a different, deadly way" to try to destabilize Iraq. "There is nothing they won't do if they think it will work in creating carnage and the political fallout that comes from that," he told The Associated Press in an interview at the State Department. Associated Press records, however, show that since the start of the war at least 151 people have been killed in at least 17 attacks or attempted attacks by female suicide bombers, including today's bombings. Iraqi officials said the women apparently were mentally disabled and the explosives were detonated by remote control, indicating they may not having been willing attackers in what could be a new method by suspected Sunni insurgents to subvert stepped up security measures. In the first attack, a woman detonated explosives hidden under her traditional black Islamic robe at about 10:20 a.m. in the central al-Ghazl market. The weekly bazaar has been bombed several times since the war started but recently had re-emerged as a popular place to shop and stroll as Baghdad security improved and a Friday ban on driving was lifted. Four police and hospital officials said at least 46 people were killed and more than 100 wounded. Firefighters scooped up debris scattered among pools of blood, clothing and pigeon carcasses. About 20 minutes later, a second female suicide bomber struck a bird market in a predominantly Shiite area in southeastern Baghdad. That blast killed as many as 27 people and wounded 67, according to police and hospital officials. The attacks were the latest in a series of violent incidents that have been chipping away at Iraqi confidence in the permanence of recent security gains. The chief Iraqi military spokesman in Baghdad, Brig. Gen. Qassim al-Moussawi, claimed the female bombers apparently had Down syndrome and the explosives were detonated by remote control. Bolstering that claim, local police said the woman in the first attack sold cream in the morning at the market and was known to locals as "the crazy lady." Iraqi President Jalal Talabani said about 70 people were killed in both attacks, which he said were committed by terrorists motivated by revenge and "to show that they are still able to stop the march of history and of our people toward reconciliation." 14. The boy suddenly realizes what a colossal waste of time building sandcastles all day is, and get's a job cleaning a taco stand. Years pass- he ends up making the taco's - then saves up enough money to buy the joint. After a few more years, the business starts to leak money like a sieve, so he burns the stand down for the insurance money, get's caught, and does 5 to 10 in the state pen. He and his cellmate live happily ever after.... PS: The girl in the story gets bored with the whole "sandcastle" deal and goes back to her family in Kansas to raise chickens...

  17. Public Radio Broadcast 'Deep Fried Christ' Skit By Penny Starr CNSNews.com Senior Staff Writer January 11, 2008 (CNSNews.com) - Some of the people who tuned into public radio station KCPW in St. Lake City, Utah, recently weren't laughing at the satire poking fun at a Mike Huckabee "family recipe." More than a few of them, in fact, were outraged by the "Huck and the Eucharist" skit, which aired Jan. 7 on the "Fair Game with Faith Salie" program. The transcript, in part, said: "Try this Huckabee family favorite. Deep-Fried Body of Christ - boring holy wafers no more. Take one Eucharist. Preferably post transubstantiation. Deep-fry in fat, not vegetable oil, ladies, until crispy. Serve piping hot." Many sent e-mails to Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights. "At that point, we decided to issue a press release to 500 media outlets around the country," Donohue told Cybercast News Service. The press release said the Catholic League was lodging a formal complaint with Ed Sweeney, general manager of KCPW - who also was the recipient of more than 500 angry e-mails in the days following the airing of the program. Public Radio International (PRI), which produces the show and then distributes it to KCPW and other public radio stations around the country, pulled the content, and Faith Salie issued an apology on her program on Thursday. "It happened, and it's unfortunate," Sweeney told Cybercast News Service, adding that public radio stations don't know what the content of programs are until they air. "I myself am a practicing Catholic, and I sleep well at night." Donohue said he was satisfied with the apology and that the content was pulled, but the league's press release launched a whirlwind of reaction in cyberspace, from the multiple responses to KCPW's blog by the station's news director, Bryan Schott, to a host of religious sites. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) received $393 million in federal tax dollars for fiscal year 2008. In 2007, according to a spokesman for CPB, the agency gave a grant of $200,000 to the producers of "Fair Game with Faith Salie" for research and development of the show. KCPW, like all public radio stations, receives tax funding through CPB. PRI did not respond to Cybercast News Service's request for comment, despite multiple calls made to the organization's communications director. Donohue said that, as a Catholic, he felt he must accept the apology and move on. But he added that this kind of mocking of the Christian faith is "fair game," even on programs funded by the CPB, which includes in its online mission statement the following: "The Corporation is accountable to the public for investing its funds in programs and services which are educational, innovative, locally relevant, and reflective of America's common values and cultural diversity." "We've been talking about this for years," said Donohue, who has been president of the Catholic League since 1993. "It would have been regarded as positively intolerant if it had been written about blacks, Jews, or Muslims." He blames much of the defamation of Christians on the people in the entertainment, publishing, and academic fields, which have significant influence on popular culture, he said. "These are the generators of ideas with a decidedly secular outlook and who are clearly hostile toward Christianity, and particularly Roman Catholics," Donohue said. One of the Web sites that saw a flurry of reaction to the controversy was www.getreligion.org. Syndicated columnist Terry Mattingly wrote on his blog about the Huckabee skit, and close to 50 people chimed in. Most said that they found the show's transcript insulting to Catholics. Still others questioned whether such satire about other religions would make the cut on public radio. Mattingly also wondered in his blog if all the debate about the "Fair Game" content shouldn't have caused another kind of response from public radio. "And will NPR do a straight national news story about this controversy?" Mattingly wrote. "Just asking." 18. How Stupid Is This? I went to Snopes on this and it shows to be all true. Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas is a fairly famous institution and for a variety of reasons: 1. John F. Kennedy died there in 1963 2. Lee Harvey Oswald died there shortly after 3. Jack Ruby-who killed Lee Harvey Oswald, died there a few years later..by coincidence "On the flip side, Parkland is also home to the second busiest maternity ward in the country with almost 16,000 new babies arriving each year. (That's almost 44 per day---every day) A recent patient survey indicated that 70 percent of the women who gave birth at Parkland in the first three months of 2006 were illegal immigrants. That's 11,200 anchor babies born every year just in Dallas According to the article, the hospital spent $70.7 million delivering 15,938 babies in 2004 but managed to end up with almost $8 million dollars in surplus funding. Medicaid kicked in $34.5 million, Dallas County taxpayers kicked in $31.3 million and the feds tossed in another $9.5 million. The average patient in Parkland is maternity wards is 25 years old, married and giving birth to her second child. She is also an illegal immigrant. By law, pregnant women cannot be denied medical care based on their immigration status or ability to pay. OK, fine. That doesn't mean they should receive better care than everyday, middle-class American citizens. But at Parkland Hospital , they do. " Parkland Memorial Hospital has nine prenatal clinics. NINE. The Dallas Morning News article followed a Hispanic woman who was a patient at one of the clinics and pregnant with her third child---her previous two were also born at Parkland . Her first two deliveries were free and the Mexican native was grateful because it would have cost $200 to have them in Mexico . This time, the hospital wants her to pay $10 per visit and $100 for the delivery but she was unsure if she could come up with the money. Not that it matters, the hospital won't turn her away. (I wonder why they even bother asking at this point.) "How long has this been going on? What are the long-term affects? Well, another subject of the article was born at Parkland in 1986 shortly after her mother entered the US illegally - now she is having her own child there as well. (That's right, she's technically a US citizen.) These women receive free prenatal care including medication, nutrition, birthing classes and child care classes. They also get freebies such as car seats, bottles, diapers and formula. Most of these things are available to American citizens as well but only for low-income applicants and even then, the red tape involved is almost insurmountable. Because these women are illegal immigrants, they do not have to provide any sort of legitimate identification - no proof of income. An American citizen would have to provide a social security number which would reveal their annual income - an illegal immigrant need only claim to be poor and the hospital must take them at their word. Parkland Hospital offers indigent care to Dallas County residents who earn less than $40,000 per year. (They also have to prove that they did not refuse health coverage at their current job. Yeah, the 'free' care is not so easy for Americans.) There are about 140 patients who received roughly $4 million dollars for un-reimbursed medical care. As it turns out, they did not qualify for free treatment because they resided outside of Dallas County so the hospital is going to sue them! Illegals get it all free! But U. S citizens who live outside of Dallas County get sued! How stupid is this? As if that isn't annoying enough, the illegal immigrant patients are actually complaining about hospital staff not speaking Spanish. In this AP story, the author speaks with a woman who is upset that she had to translate comments from the hospital staff into Spanish for her husband. The doctor was trying to explain the situation to the family and the mother was forced to translate for her husband who only spoke Spanish. This was apparently a great injustice to her. In an attempt to create a Spanish-speaking staff, Parkland Hospital is now providing incentives in the form of extra pay for applicants who speak Spanish. Additionally, medical students at the University of Texas Southwestern for which Parkland Hospital is the training facility will now have a Spanish language requirement added to their already jammed-packed curriculum. No other school in the country boasts such a ridiculous multi-semester (multicultural) requirement. ( Sorry for the length, but this needs wide circulation particularly to our "employees" in Congress.) Remember that this is only ONE hospital is Dallas , Texas . There are many more hospitals across our country that also have to deal with this. If you want to verify accuracy: http://www.snopes.com/politics/immigration/parkland.asp
