The scribes silenced.

The scribes commended the reply Christ made to the Sadducees about the resurrection, but they were silenced by a question concerning the Messiah. Christ, as God, was David's Lord; but Christ, as man, was David's son. The scribes would receive the severest judgement for defrauding the poor widows, and for their abuse of religion, particularly of prayer, which they used as a pretence for carrying on worldly and wicked plans. Dissembled piety is double sin. Then let us beg of God to

keep us from pride, ambition, covetousness, and every evil thing; and to teach us to seek that honour which comes from him alone.

When Christ baffled his enemies, he asked what thoughts they had of the

promised Messiah? How he could be the Son of David and yet his Lord?

If the Christ was to be a mere man, who would not exist till many ages

after David's death, how could his forefather call him Lord? The Pharisees

could not answer it. Nor can any solve the difficulty except he allows the

Messiah to be the Son of God, and David's Lord equally with the Father.

He took upon him human nature, and so became God manifested in the

flesh; in this sense he is the Son of man and the Son of David.-It behoves

us above all things seriously to inquire, "What think we of Christ?" Is he

altogether glorious in our eyes, and precious to our hearts? May Christ be

Agreed. An his ultimate condemnation of many of the scribes and pharisees was that they claimed to teach the way, but refused to enter y the way

The reply was a case of lineage as Jesus came through the line of david by birth(water) and Christ the messiah by God.

I always loved this particular scripture due to the mere fact that the pharisees tried to use trickery in their question to Him in hopes of getting Him in trouble with Rome. The laugh was on them.

Both divine and human nature is spoken about here. The answer had to shut their mouths.

Has anyone here come across a person with a pharisaical spirit?

They love to argue...not just to have a point to ponder, can be quite arrogant, lack humility, hate authority: submission to authority and would never say they lack knowledge.

I find them most irritating and never try to prove a point. answer a question with a mind blowing question and what happen here in th scripture will happen today. They shut up!

The scripture of Psalm 110 is the most quoted psalm in the new testament...( I believe it to be true anyway ) Just a bit of trivia fact. patricia1
