KAT
Well, their goal is to kill your sons and daughters--and you.

Whose goal?

Those guys who've been sitting in Quatanamo for 5 or more years?

How many of those guys have inside knowledge of stuff anyway !

It would be just as ludicrous to justify torturing a US serviceman taken prisoner thinking he has inside CIA information.

Besides nowhere in the Bible do I see that one is to return evil for evil.

Its curious.

As has been pointed out, waterboarding as actual "torture" is still in question. It's also been referred to as a method of interrigation and has been around for quite some time.

As far as you questioning its affects, it seems to have been very useful, so far:

Waterboarding has its benefits

So how far do we go to collect information from a prisoner who we think may have information?

Could any form or torture be justified by the simple statement,

Neb, I guess this was directed toward me as it followed my post.

I am not defending the guilty.

I believe in just punishment for every crime.

That is not the same as torture.

This nation is on a downhill slope.

Just for an example. We now make it legal to abort babies.

Now it is legal to torture - no matter how mild.

Euthanasia is not far behind.

We have been depreciating the value of human life.

Actually, I am against the bill. But my reason is that I am ashamed that such a bill actually had to be introduced.

I think we, as Christians, need a clear defination of torture...

Does God's word talk about prisoners of war?

Thanks for clarifying that, Old Timer!

In that regards, though, I go back to what I posted earlier - not everyone agrees that waterboarding is "torture." The person is not being physically nor psychologically damaged, nor sexually humiliated.

No, the experience is not pleasant, and yes it does make him fear for his life and believe he is being killed -

But something like this could just as easily be used on the SEALS to toughen them up in case they run low on oxygen while in the ocean.

So, what makes waterboarding "torture"?

I do not know if waterboarding is torture or not. I can assume it is not very pleasant.

This is from todays's NY Times editorial by Steven Lee Myers:

The Senate

No offense, OT -

But I am having a hard time separating the NY Times from Liberal propoganda, and thus have an automatic distrust for whatever they claim.

As for your concern, however, all I can say is that I personally know people who do or have worked for the government, and I cannot see them as the kind of threat that all these fears keep advocating.

The article quoted the opinions of Gen. Petraeus, who mentioned two objections:
