"The Grid" is the technoligy that allows the image of the beast to both speak and hear, and though it arrives with so little warning, it will soon dominate all transactions on the planet, but otherwise it's just great. :noidea:

Ok . . . .

When I read the article, it sounds like the only difference between the internet and the grid are the cables used to transmit the information:

...the Internet has evolved by linking together a hotchpotch of cables and routing equipment, much of which was originally designed for telephone calls and therefore lacks the capacity for high-speed data transmission.

By contrast, the grid has been built with dedicated fibre optic cables and modern routing centres, meaning there are no outdated components to slow the deluge of data.

I'm failing to see what all the doomsday predictions are about?

The problem is the particle accelerator itself. Something about black holes...

Anyway, there has been all sorts of crazy talk about this new Grid leading to The Matrix or Skynet (a la Terminator)

I don't think that black holes really exist :whistling:

Maybe it's only a matter of time before the Internet becomes 'Self-aware', Neb :whistling::emot-highfive:

Actually, we used to joke in college way back in 1990 that the Internet WAS SkyNet...lol. That was before I truly knew Christ and I used to think it would be cool to have a chip implant in my brain so I could surf the net and experience virtual reality without having to rely on my outer senses.

I used to think the idea of a Borg Collective was cool too.

Ok...I admit it, I was one warped little atheist geek. :emot-highfive:
