  1. Hello. Hadn't seen this one in here yet. Thought it might be nice to list the little things (or big ones) we're thankful for. Being so near Thanksgiving, I thought it might be nice. I'm thankful for the here and now. Thankful to still have family around... many have family that can't come, or won't. And still many more have no family to surround them in hard times. Very thankful for the people on the Hospice floor at the hospital. They are so very compassionate... and this is so needed. Thankful to have laundry that gets dirty, for some people have little or nothing to wear. Thankful to have dishes that need cleaning, for that means we have plenty of food to fill the dirty dishes. Thankful to have carpet that needs vacuuming and cleaning, many do not have beyond a dirt floor. Thankful to have a job (even if it gets stressful) as many (including my husband) are unemployed. Thankful even now for my husband's unemployment as this frees him up to take his mother and go to the hospital to be with his dad. Thankful for children who run up and down the halls, as this means they are healthy and happy, and many are neither. Thankful to spend Thanksgiving in the hospital, because many won't be able to spend it with anyone or anything except alone and in hunger. Thankful that Christmas gifts will be very, very small this year, or completely none. Thankful because it gives my kids a chance to see what it is really about... Christ instead of presents and a bunch of things we all want, but don't really need. In fact the happiest Christmases in times past were times when we had to be creative and make our own things to give. One of my sisters made a snack for us all out of pecans and sliced apples. My other sister got up and made my bed for a week. I was so thrilled she would think of me. It was really special. Thankful for Jesus. He is my life, my salvation, my closest friend. There when I need him and still there when I forget that I need him. Ever bringing me back to His side. Thankful for this place, and all who enter here. God bless you!
  2. I'm so glad you posted this. I've been worrying about Christmas. We won't be able to exchange purchased gifts this year. But after all, that isn't the reason for Christmas, it is? I'm ready to face the holiday again. Ready to turn it into a day for Christ and take away everything else. He will bless this, I'm sure. Thanks for posting this.
  3. Sounds like it's been a great place since the very beginning. Anything you really miss about the very early beginnings? Or is everything still in place, just on a larger scale now?
  4. Say, just to ask, some of you primary folks... What was worthyboards like when it first got started? How many folks? What all has changed since the beginning? I'd love to hear more on the history from some long time members. Got any stories? How this place has touched your life? What is your most fond moment that's been shared here?
  5. LIMITS! You said it! Preach on glory!
  6. Hey, a bunch of my crazy friends might like to meet with them... or rather meet up with them... They'd show 'em a real good ol time I reckon.
  7. I've always wondered, why do they call it fasting? When you're going all that time without food, it seems terribly SLOW.
  8. Oh, Lord, please bring peace and comfort and emotional healing to this hurting family. We lift their hurting hearts to You. Hold them close...
  9. Hmmm... I don't think I'd recognize Muhammed if I saw him....
  10. Heard this yesterday, and wanted to share it with everyone. I was surprised at the treatment for preventing shock. Maybe you will be too. From: Ron Hutchcraft A Word With You Today "Shock Therapy." "Hanna lives in coal country so she's been around miners a lot. Being in youth ministry for years I've been around miners a lot too. Oh wait, that's a different kind - spelled differently. But Hanna and a friend of mine were talking recently about the mines and the miners and a surprising fact came out. Hanna said the most common cause of death among those coal miners was electrocution. They live in a real remote area and the mining operation there is pretty old and relatively primitive. So there are sometimes problems with the wiring in the mine, and miners actually get electrocuted. What compounds the problems is that the nearest doctor is many miles away, which led Hanna to ask the doctor one time if there was anything the local folks could do to help while they're waiting for the doctor to arrive. She was surprised by the doctor's answer. "Well," he said, "there is one thing, hug the injured miner." Well, obviously Hanna wanted to know why. He said, "When people are about to go into shock, I think there is something about a hug, about human touch - about human tenderness. "Not all shocks are electrical are they? People around us are getting shocked every day by bad news they've just received, by bad treatment, by unexpected developments, by a death, or a failure, or by pain in a relationship. And not all hugs are two arms around a person - although that kind of hug is great. But a hug can be a word of encouragement, or an offer to help, a gift, a compliment, a place to rest and recover. It's practical love when someone has really been hit hard. "David never forgot the men who "hugged" him, so to speak, when he was battling shock. The king that David had served loyally turned on him out of jealousy and he wanted him dead. And the king is in hot pursuit of David; he is ready to kill him when he finds him. This was way before electricity, but it must have been a shock to David. Our word for today from the Word of God comes out of that incident: I Chronicles 11:16. It says this, "At that time David was in the stronghold and the Philistine garrison was at Bethlehem. David longed for water and said,
  11. What frightens me is one of my work acquaintances said just the other day he thought a lot of the problems in the world were started by the Jewish people. I looked at him like he dropped down from Mars. What?!!! He's usually one of those logical types who has lengthy explanations about everything. He seems to have come to his conclusion from things he's read and heard from the press, but never offered a very clear reason as to exactly why. I told him I thought it was ridiculous and he got really quiet. Never mentioned it again. But if this is prevalent everywhere, it's pretty scary indeed. I mean for goodness sake, this is coming from Abilene... where I live under a ROCK! What is happening across the nation and the world?
  12. DANG! Maybe you should move... come on down to Texas. Always welcome here.
  13. Bullfrog sunscreen! It's waterproof. Won't even sweat off. Take a big beach towel if you're going on the beach. Wear some of those water socks beach shoes too. The ocean is beautiful, but it can tear up your feet. Don't take too much to carry, or it will slow you down painfully. Take nothing you'd miss terribly if it were "borrowed" and never returned. Take your cash, but be careful with it. Don't leave it where it will tempt others. They will take credit cards there, but some of the shops add a hidden surcharge. Maybe take along one large beach bag to put everything in. And take lots of memories, leave your footprints. Enjoy!!!
  14. Wow! Ok, you're making me cry this morning. My cubicle buddies are thinking I'm crazy too. Never mind them. That is so beautiful.... Hang onto that angel.
  15. Sounds like the plan won't be in place too long... not after they all die out. Nobody to follow in mommy or daddy's footsteps... hmmm...
  16. Disguise the dog as a sheep.... Wait.... We could solve everything if we could just send PETA over there to deal with this.
  17. unidentified falling objects? Nah, that happens a lot at my house. Kids piling up the laundry or putting the cereal box up crooked. Then it falls. CLONK! Right on my head. UFO, right in my house.
  18. But my mom said, talking about sects is bad......
  19. Those poor people... I'm very sad for the destitute people who are trapped in that country and can't get help they desperately need. The children and the poor suffer terribly because of a corrupt government that cares so little for their own citizens. How prideful and overbearing. Praying for the suffering people there. Makes me very sad.
  20. I'm kinda glad they keep the AC turned up on high where I go to church... It's so cold, nobody wears anything short. At least not twice. It's too cold!
  21. I'm so sad... grew up listening to the Rambo's music.
  22. Wow, I had no idea he had anyone who didn't like his stuff... but then again, I do live here under this rock... so....
