It says it all for me. I wonder about who owned the bible before me every time I read it. My Bible and I We've travelled together My Bible and I, Through all kinds of weather with smile or with a sigh! In sorrow or in sunshine, in temptest or calm! Thy friendship unchanging my lamp and my Psalm. We've travelled together my Bible and I, when life had grown weary, and death e'en was nigh! But all through the darkness of mist or of wrong, I found there a solace, a prayer and a song. So now who shall part us? My Bible and I? Shall "isms" or "schisms" or "new lights" who try? Shall shadow for substance, or stone for good bread, supplant thy sound wisdom, give folly instead? Ah, no, my dear Bible, exponent of light! Thou sword of the Spirit, put error to flight! And still thru life's journay, until my last sigh, we'll travell together, my Bible and I.

To me, the bible is the inerrant word of God, His message to us about our history (downfall of man) and His amazing loving plan to redeem us. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 sum it up to me. All Scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfected, thoroughly furnished to every good work. The Bible is God's speaking in the prophets and the Son (Heb. 1:1-2); The Bible is the Holy Spirit's revelation (John 16:13). "The Bible testifies concerning the Lord Jesus (John 5:39); The Bible makes man wise, wise unto salvation (2 Timothy 3:15); The Bible causes man to be regenerated (1 Peter 1:23); Our spiritual milk (1 Peter 2:2), our bread of life (Matthew 4:4), It makes us all complete (2 Timothy 3:17)." Great song. In the beginning of the Church age, when the followers of Jesus had just witnessed Him ascend into a cloud, Peter addressed 120 or so believers and did so by first quoting Scripture to establish that Judas who betrayed Jesus would need to be replaced. (Psalm 109:8) Peter, who was yet to be filled with the Holy Spirit, knew that the best authority was God's Word and like Jesus Himself, Peter quoted it establishing the purpose and justification for replacing Judas. Peter, in doing so, established that Scripture was the authority that should ALWAYS be consulted before any action was to be taken. Paul later wrote a letter in which he referred to the Word of God as the sword of the Spirit, the ONLY offensive weapon to be used in the battle against the principalities of darkness...a fight for the one and only TRUTH. Setting aside the Word of God is like a soldier setting down his weapon in the middle of a battle. Not a very good idea.
