Sorry Nebula. This kind of rubbed me the wrong way, too. I did not read the article, and after reading the opening paragraph you posted, I think it best if I don't. I was spoon-fed "worm theology" all my growing-up years. The message was: whatever you're doing it's not enough. No matter how true your heart is towards God, your heart is still desperately wicked and you're really just scum that may or may not deserve to be scooped up. (Maybe it wasn't quite that bad, but it sure seemed like it.) Getting yelled at every time I went to church for how horrible of a sinner I was makes it difficult now to listen (or read) stuff like what Green says.

I don't know. Seems like if the shoe don't fit, I could just throw it away, huh. I don't seem to be able to do that though, without first letting it stomp on some part of my body!

:emot-hug:

Prophetic voices have a way of being hard hitters. I don't think Elijah was a gentle preacher, either. Do you?

Prophets are always calling people to turn, to press deeper into God.

Recall that the person who wrote these words also wrote:

I make my life a prayer to You

I want to do what You want me to

No empty words and no white lies

No token prayers, no compromise . . .

I want to thank You now

For being patient with me

Oh it's so hard to see

When my eyes are on me

I guess I'll have to trust

And just believe what You say

Oh You're coming again

Coming to take me away

I want to die and let You give

Your life to me so I might live

And share the hope You gave to me

The love that set me free. . . .

And he wrote:

Oh Lord, You're beautiful!

Your face is all I seek

For when Your eyes are on this child

Your grace abounds to me

I miss the kind of passion and zeal Keith Green had. I miss hearing the voice of conviction challenging me to keep my feet on the narrow road. :) I haven't heard a true song of conviction since the Newsboys recorded Lost the Plot <<--LINK to listen

I don't know, maybe you'd like that song better.

Or if you are having a hard time listening to the song (it tends to get grungy on the guitars), you might understand reading this better: Song Review for "Lost the Plot"

Yes, several times actually, but what does that have to do with I said though?

You don't see them as angry when you read their words?

When I think of Keith Green I have to smile..His enthusiasm for the Lord was infectious..

Not always perfectly correct perhaps but he was a babe in Christ...

He really was a blessing and when I read the post line about being bored in heaven I thought to myself ..No way..I know how I feel now when the Spirit of the Lord is rising up in me in praise and worship and from what I read we have an eternity to Praise Him.. :24:

... I just don't think "yelling" at people is the best way to motivate others to serve God....

OK, I understand where you are coming from.

But I don't see him as "yelling" here, just being very hard-lined.

Sometimes people need that kind of shaking.

But I can appreciate how you feel.

... The words to the song "Grace By Which I Stand" make me think maybe he was kind of preaching to himself!

Actually, he did that a lot.

The book his wife wrote about him, No Compromise, explains the stories behind the songs. It was very thought-provoking and convicting.

BTW, the prophets in the OT were preaching, for the most part, to people who had turned their backs on God. I see that different from speaking to Christians today. :emot-puke:

I have to disagree with you on this. There's a lot of complacency, immorality, laziness, selfishness, gossip, the whole works infecting Christians today. A lot of us need some good shaking.

Keith Green wasn't a pastor, though. :noidea:

And anyway, did you listen to or read the link I gave for the song "Lost the Plot" by the Newsboys? It was a synonymous message, but a different presentation.

I'd really like to know what you thought/think of that.

What about the lord Jesus' rebukes of the churches in Revelation? "Unless you repent..." doesn't sound very un-angry to me, nor does it sound like the Christians are not being carnal.

Again, I would truly like to know what you thught of the song/commentary of "Lost the Plot" - a song based on the rebuke to the church in Ephesus.

nebula.. another scripture that gives us warning that we are His children and need training ..

Kieth Green had a very good point...

He reminds me of the young man who wrote the song "If ever I loved Thee, My Jesus tis now."

Hearts for God...

Heb 12:3 For consider Him who endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest you be weary and faint in your minds.

Heb 12:4 You have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

Heb 12:5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons, "My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are rebuked by Him;

Heb 12:6 for whom the Lord loves He chastens, and He scourges every son whom He receives."

Heb 12:7 If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons, for what son is he whom the father does not chasten?

Heb 12:8 But if you are without chastisement, of which all are partakers, then you are bastards and not sons.

Heb 12:9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh who corrected us, and we gave them reverence. Shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live?

Heb 12:10 For truly they chastened us for a few days according to their own pleasure, but He for our profit, that we might be partakers of His holiness.

:(
