  1. Would like to find out anything I could about this Christian Sect and it's beginnings. I know that their are two views of when the Waldenians beginnings were, (hoping I spelled this right) looking for information of both views, but especially of the early view which links them to Leoist in 3rd or 4th Century AD some would even say to Christ. But am also interested in the view that states they started with Peter Waldo. Any information would be much appreciated.
  2. Challenging Times I have no idea what you are talking about. II Timothy 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
  3. They are a married couple first mention in Acts 18:2-3, both were Jewish Believers (Romans 16:3). Who's occupation was tentmaking. They had moved to Corinth because Emperoer Claudius had commanded that all Jews leave Rome. Thee fellow believers expounded unto Apollo (an eloquent man) the way of God more perfectly. Acts 18:24-26. More than likely there are also mention in II Timothy 4:19. Priscilla is called Prisca in II Timothy. Some Scholars believe Priscalla may have written the Book of Hebrews, but being a woman she did't sign it. I still think Paul wrote Hebrews, but it would be interesting if Priscilla wrote it.
  4. Wonderful....sort of makes me think of Pilgrim's Progress, my favorite book in the world after the bible. Great Post mjrhealth. Miss Elly, I agree though are my favorite books also.
  5. I love all the Left Behind Series books also, don't agree with the End Time theories but they present the Gospel message very will. Have you read the prelude to this series about the rise of the antichrist, I can't think of how to spell the characters name something like Nicolye , yea I'm a terrible speller.
  6. This is a Good Point by Mr. Marcus. I still can't forget Juan Williams a black reporter being fired by NPR because of his connections to Fox News.
  7. There are many people who want that sort of experience but don't get it. Thats one of the main arguements i hear from people. Anectdotal evidence just isn't taken seriously. Well, Paul didn't need to see God to believe in His existence (like Atheists). Why I believe Jesus would have revealed Himself to Paul is because Paul loved God. He states in one letter that He was very zealous. That kind of zeal is born out of love. He truly thought he was wiping out idolatry, as commanded by Torah. (Unlike the Sanhedrin, who were power-hungry.) Great Point, Nebula ! To me, I really think God has reveal Himself though the nation of Israel. First He help to established it as a nation. Then twice in history He disporse it. The first time He disporse the two Kingdoms of Israeal and Judah for idoratry, Israel was conquer and disporse by the Assyrians, and Judah by Babylon. And seventy years after the Kingdom of Judah destruction they became a Kingdom again. Than because they rejected Jesus as Saviour this nation ceased to exist for nearly 2000 years. But God restore then as a nation about 60 years ago. I always think to myself how could a nation cease to exist for nearly 2000 years, but than become a nation again, only by the power of God.
  8. Thank you, Lomi! For my weak faith is made stronger, by your Strong Faith. Remember Solomon the Second wisest man in the world stated in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8--"1) To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven... 4) A time to weep, and a time to laugh, a time to mourn...8) A time to love, and a time to hate... Paul wrote "Be ye angry, and sin not let not the sun go down upon your wrath." Ephesians 4:26 It is okay to be angry about something or at someone but if you dwell on it to much it will destroy you not the one your angry at. I will be praying that God will give you His peace to keep your heart and mind through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7).
  9. Can anyone with a Jewish background tell some of the things that are practice on this eight day assembly (Leviticus 23:39; Numbers 29:35)?
  10. Thanks HP, that kinda what I getting confused at. From the Ryrie Study Bible Footnote section b of Matthew 13:33--"Others regard the meaning of leaven in this parable in a good sense, as indicating the growth of the kingdom of heaven by means of the penetrating power of the Gospel." What confuses me, from what I have studied and understand everywhere else in the Bible when leaven is spoken of; it is a type of impurity or evil, I guest I confused especially by Paul statement in I Corinthians 5:6-8. I know this may not mean anything but why would God use leaven as symbol of His kingdom.
  11. Could you tell me about this principle Nebula? I was reading a footnote in my Ryrie Study Bible about a certain principle that has me completely dumbfounded .
  12. Mathhew 13:33 Another parable spake He unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. So from this verse who or what do you think is the leaven?
  13. Hi Shalhevet, one of the first things one needs to remember is that the Apostle John was writing this epistle of I John to correct the false teaching of the gnostics. The gnostics had two great false teaching one was that the spirit of a man could not sin. So John deals with this in I John 1:7-10. The second false teaching was that the physical body could be involve in all sorts of sin and it would not matter because it did not involve one's spirit this is what the Apostle John was speaking of in I John 3:6-8. He was not saying a Christian will never sin, but rather a Christian should not continue living a sinful life which gnostic where so falsely teaching was okay because your body was sinful but not your spirit. But I believe John was also truely trying to convey to the Christians that the New Commandment that Jesus gave us was to love God and our neighbour (Matthew 22:37-40; John 15:12; I John 4:7-8; 20). For just shortly after John wrote these verses we read: 10) In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. 11) For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. 12) Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother were righteous. 13) Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you. 14) We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. 15) Whosoever hateh his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. 16) Hereby perceive we the love of God, because He laid down His life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17) But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? 18) My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth." I John 3:10-18 We see that Cain slew his brother because he was evil, but Abel was righteous , v.12. For we are righteous in Christ Jesus (I Corinthians 1:29-31; II Corinthians 5:21). But because we have this righteousness given by the Holy Spirit, we will love others. If you will notice how similiar I John 3:16-18 is to James 2:14-17. The righteousness that John is speaking of here is the Work of Faith that James speaks of, which as Pauls states is: LOVE Galatians 5:6; 13-14 6) For in Jesus Christ neither circumsision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love. 13) For, brethren, we have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. 14) For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Just my opinion for whatever it is worth.
  14. Amen FresnoJoe! I love those pictures Thanks Nebula, for sharing them. Especially like the 19th picture of strange sky it beautiful.
  15. Because we as Christians are not of this world "system" we will be hated. John 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. John 17:14 I have given them thy word: and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. All the other false religions are acceptted because they do not have reproving power of the Holy Spirit behind them. see John 16:7-8
  16. I have a few areas in my life where I feel volunterable. So why would the Holy Spirit just open me up to one and let the enemy have at it on me. If this was a test I failed badly as I have reverted back to my old nature, more so than I have in a long, long, time. Why would God say no, to a pray request that means so much to me, and then just seem to taunt me with it. For the last two to three days all the Spirit seems to do is remind of this situation, and it as been a long time since I have felt so distant from God. My blood sugar was just a little high tonight, which I can't understand as I have return to my old eating habits, and more importantly, this situation is eating away at me. So I though it would be way higher.
  17. Sad it seems with our government and media think it is criminal to be Christians and freedom loving, but be muslim especially a radical one, and the media and government wanta make sure your rights are given you. Does anyone remember that during the Iran-Contra iniquistion of Lt. Colonel Oliver North that than Senator Al Gore, questioned Colonel North asking why he wanted to assainate Osama Bin Laden, and Colonel North answer because he is an evil man. Maybe if we had listen to Lt. Colonel North, 9/11 would have never happen.
  18. I think a lot of it comes down to Manasseh and Judah, reaping what they sow. Yes Manasseh truely repented and God forgave him, but the people continued to distance themselves from God. For after Manasseh Judah only had one good king--Josiah. Even though Manasseh had repented all the sins he had commiitted in Judah, had planted a seed of evil that would destroy this Kingdom. Galatians 6:7-8 7) Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8) For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption: but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. I agree with Parker and Eric that God would have wellingly forgiven Judah if they would have repented: Jeremiah 18:7-8 7) At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it; 8) If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them. Remember God is slow to anger, longsuffering wanting all to come to repentance (II Peter 3:9), the kingdom of Judah saw what happen to the Northern Kingdom of Israel, but after Hezekiah with the exception of Josiah, not one good king came from Judah. God wait for over a hundred years to carry out His Justice hoping to have someone stand in the gap, but no one did so He destroy it (Ezekiel 22:30-31).
  19. IMO from other scriptures we read it is evident, that "and upon this rock I will build my church" (Matthew 16:18) is referring to Peter's confession of faith, "thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God" (Matthew 16:16), not Peter himself. For if Peter is the rock it goes against Old Testament teaching. Psalms 18:31 For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God? II Samuel 22:32 says the same thing. Jesus at the end of His teaching on the Sermon on the Mount stated: 24) Therefore whosoever heareth these saying of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a ROCK: 25) And the rains descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house: and it fell not: for it was founded upon a ROCK. Near the end of his Gospel John wrote: But these are written, that ye might BELIEVE THAT JESUS IS THE CHRIST, THE SON OF GOD, and that believing ye might have life through His Name. John 20:31 We see here that John isn't worry about Peter being a pebble, but about Peter's confession of faith in Matthew 16:16
  20. Amen Fez ! James 1:22 But be ye doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
  21. God has a perfect will, it is definitely hard to understand, but if your niece (I think this is who you are talking about) was that sick maybe He was saving her from suffering anymore. Isaiah 57:1 The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. Her death was precious to God. Psalms 116:15 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints. But try to remember it is better for her to be with Lord as Paul stated; Philippians 1:23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: I wish I could think of something to say to comfort you and your family, but the sorrow of losing a love is just a time to weep (Ecclesiastes 3:2-4). But glory in the fact that "God is not ashamed to be called" her "God" (Hebrews 11:16).
  22. Howdy Tabby Cat, and welcome to Worthy. I'll be praying for you. Try to remember although your life maybe a mess right now God has Great things plan for you. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. I been where you are, many years ago I tried to kill myself, nothing more humilating than falling flat on your butt trying to hang yourself. But try to remember this promise of God: Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.
  23. Hey, I've read some of your posts. You've got a pretty good head on your shoulders and a sincere desire to discover His will. You will find it. I'm horrible at remembering chapter and verse so this is an awful paraphase, but - He who began a good work in you will complete it. I'll get started trying to find that verse. Your doing fine! A Disciple Found the verse - Philipians 1:6 Amen to that A Disciple. FromIslam2Christ, God has given you great wisdom, and you have shown the wisdom God gives us through the Holy Spirit. I readed a book many years ago called, Disappointment With God, by Philip Yancey, just started to read it again. In this book, he deals with three questions we as Christian (I should say I as a Christian wonder about) sometimes think about. 1) Is God unfair? 2) Is God Silent? 3) Is God Hidden? It does sound so ungodly to ask these question, but I know I think about them alot, and I think most Christians do also. Just read a chapter where he was noticing in the Old Testament, how God revealed Himself directly to the children of Israel after they left Egypt. Yancey stated that God had caused ten great plagues on the Egyptians, divided the Red Sea, feed the Israelites with Manna and quails, and so many more miracles He had done for them. If ever a people knew God was fair, and not silent, nor hidden, it was Israel after leaving Egypt. Did this make them strong in faith, and love Him for all the good, God had done for them. No instead it made them wine and complain about wanting to be back in Egypt. As a parent who wants the love and trust of His Children don't you think God was truely hurt. I would say to you, just as you have stated use the discernment of the Spirit. Remember theses words Solomon wrote: Where no counsel is, the people fail: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety. Proverbs 11:14 If you still have problems remember this passage which I'm sure you already know. James 1:5-6 5) If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 6) But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. I will be praying for you FromIslam2Christ.
