  1. The soul consisting of mind, will and emotions is derived (or according to ??) from Greek psychology? "then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature". ESV... vs ...soul? Do animals have a soul? Or does all humans have a live/dead spirit, lost or saved? scriptures? Strongs; nephesh, neh'-fesh; 5315 from H5314; properly, a breathing creature, i.e. animal of (abstractly) vitality; used very widely in a literal, accommodated or figurative sense (bodily or mental):—any, appetite, beast, body, breath, creature, × dead(-ly), desire, × (dis-) contented, × fish, ghost, greedy, he, heart(-y), (hath, × jeopardy of) life (× in jeopardy), lust, man, me, mind, mortally, one, own, person, pleasure, (her-, him-, my-, thy-) self, them (your) -selves, slay, soul, tablet, they, thing, (× she) will, × would have it. ^^^^ Thanks Mr. M

Chapel service starts at 7:00 PM and is conducted by a volunteer pastor or lay leader. Christian songs are sung and the gospel is given with an invitation for all to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. A hot meal is served after the chapel service in concluded. We occupy 4 buildings which contain the chapel, office, kitchen, dining room, dormitories, bathrooms, clothing room, laundry room, storage areas and staff quarters. Our dormitory can accommodate 40 guests." *************************************************************************************** Our church and others support this mission, and over the years young men in our church that have decided to become ministers, volunteer at the rescue mission to bring a message and minister to the men, exposing them to the realities of being a shepherd, learning while helping. There is a bazillion ways to help those in need. Praying for the poor is cool, but praying to our father to show us ways we can help individually or within our congregation is walking in faith, abiding. Most everybody is aware of the needy and the problems. Christians can act and take this to the Lord and then become part of the solution as God directs each of us.
  3. Please Describe How You See Worthy #6 To defend the traditional assembled bodies against their imperfections. #7 Encourage participation with other like minded believers regularly(face to face). #8 Discuss the benefits/blessings to belong to a 'assembled' family and its woes. #9 Learn scriptural understanding, share the victories experienced in Christ #10 Present the good news to those viewers/seekers listening, watching us, reminding our selves to think on our testimony we make public here. I now hear some more about how many christian forums ain't so great any more, don't monitor members enough, etc. The vast majority here have no idea what George and his ministers/moderators put into the time and discussions trying to have this forum to honor God and present the full gospel. They work hard trying to accommodate so many, and some adult children also. So if you don't want to go to an imperfect church, and you now don't like imperfect christian forums, (what's left?) maybe instead it's a good time to switch sides and start to edify the body of assembled believers, and members on christian forums, lifting up and not tearing down. Most everybody here knows all the/our imperfections ad nauseam. The body needs edification and not more critics. We get it, It ain't perfect and will never be till the Lord comes for us. And he will judge us as we judge one another. Think on that! Starise pointed out above his "zing" he receives getting together with his fellow believers. very cool. I get it. I also have the same on Sunday but call it family when I assemble with my friends. It's not perfect but it is good stuff. We encourage one another as would a close family. Thanks, Starise...nice topic (sorry for the rant:) "If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother"
  4. I could lose my salvation. If it depended on me. Praise God, it doesn't depend on me. "Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that "he is able" to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day" 2 Timothy He, Jesus, is able. Yes! Thanks Pat...
  5. "the commandment is a lamp and the law is light" "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee" "A lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path" Thanks, Steve.......
  6. My wife and I sold a home in Bellaire/Houston in the mid seventies to a man whose business was in banking. Over a period of time in discussions about our money transactions, he said he had a bit of advise for us about dealing with banks. Never trust them or your monthly statements.Always tally checks spent, check balances against your own tally of everything. He told us that every day there were minor/major errors made in every bank, and unless we check the math those errors slip on through. I never forgot that.
  7. "Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him" God is light and cannot lie. His promises are true. All of them. Faith.
  8. "government taking care of it's needy" The government has never made money, only printed it. Cheating my value of a dollar I earned/saved twenty yrs ago to be worth so much less today. Tax payers, those that actually send in tax money, pay for the needy. Tax payers meaning 1/2 of population paying to other 1/2 who pay nothing. Trouble is, government decides who gets it. Not even close to just the needy. The lazy/scammers/illegals/experimental social programs gets most, and you know it, or should. I do get angered at the amount of taxes I pay to the welfare state. Who actually enjoys giving hard earned money to be disbursed to the lazy. How many thousands in taxes did you pay last year? I finally retired yrs beyond when I would have liked because God saw fit to bless me with the health to do so. I'm so tired of paying thousands each yr to the never ending "needy"programs. Not the truly poor. We support them ourselves in our personal family ministry. It's time to drain the swamp again. From all the never ending takers. God says in his word. You don't work, you don't eat. Pretty clear to me. "Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world" "Now she who is really a widow, and left alone, trusts in God and continues in supplications and prayers night and day." And how many is that, getting welfare checks, housing, cell phones, food stamps, credit cards. I wondered how it is that those who lecture me to give so much of money I work for, and preach to others to do so without complaining, giving to that never ending so called needy, and have their hand in my wallet to accomplish their goal. Before anyone gets on a band wagon, I clarified I'm NOT talking about the truly in need widows and orphans, the sick or impaired etc 10%. I'm talking about those other 90% who could/should work but don't, because they found a government give away program tailored to maintain their lifestyle. (That gets votes for their favorite politician elected to be sure to keep receiving the freebies each yr) I absolutely believe in helping those who deserve to be helped, and it is not just about the money. Many elderly or infirm simply need a helping hand occasionally from someone who is willing and able. Time. Thanks, Neighbor
  9. "It was a stipend from everyone" Not anymore. In the United States, only 51% of the people pay taxes. This doesn't include millions of the illegals. Ck it out yourself... Way back when, there was always 10% that always needed help. Today, too many are on the "band wagon." Taking life easy, always wanting more and more. And if they all vote Demo blue, they'll get it.
  10. "we operated through our physical body, its wants and our soulish desires. These were influenced by Satan and his demons" Just curious how satan and demons influenced our physical body and soul, as you stated, if not through our spirit. Do you believe our spirit can only be influenced by God's spirit within? Good stuff only. I have understood the enemy also has access to influence me through my spirit. When we are saved, is the access to our spirit now closed to the evil spirits? If so, what scripture? Not physical means but through my spirit, like now as I think, and how my thoughts generate, for good if in the spirit of God or evil if not taking evil thoughts/influence captive. 99.99% of my sin generates in my mind, the battle ground. Or do you believe the enemy has access straight to our now saved minds, reading/planting thoughts? Eph. 2: 1 (and 2) 1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. Thanks, Marilyn
  11. Then perhaps you can instruct my understanding concerning this in my reply above. I do not find in scripture that my corrupted spirit was not influencing me while still lost, serving the god of this world. Thanks, Marilyn...
  12. "Please pardon my humor but " visions" of Trumpy's come to my mind's eye" "Donald might be in need of your kids lunch money" Don't know about me pardoning your humor, but I'll consider your age. I see/felt no humor. Just judgement, brother. Don't really care myself about your description of "visions" to make fun (humor ) about anyone like this. Don't remember any "wave offering" and do not see any relevance to associate that with Donald Trump. Anyone that has so many democratic lost leftist socialist censoring enemies is my friend. And hopefully our brother. Fortunate for me you know not all MY sins....... Thanks, Neighbor...
  13. You say VA, man's being is composed of spirit, soul, and body which I have understood and agree. You say prior to salvation it is dead, or the 'condition is dead, and quote Eph. 2,1; says "And 'you' were dead in the trespasses and sins" I looked it up in different versions, same said. I could not find any where that said our spirit was dead prior to salvation, only us, or YOU were dead.. I have always thought/understood my corrupted self spirit had been used as a line to/from/influenced by, the god of this world, and then being born again of un-corruption, but I now have a made alive spirit unto God, WiFi, that communicates to me. Are you saying the enemy no longer communicates through our spirit after salvation, and/or did not communicate prior? If so, where does those thoughts that I take captive come from? Any verses could help understanding. I had thought prior to salvation only the enemy could communicate and after salvation the "line of communication" had also been enabled by God for learning and comfort and receive direction etc etc. Thanks VA... PS add; I do believe/understand that as born again my spirit can take charge of my actions as now enabled by God, through the spirit, but is still subject at times to miss the mark if I do not walk in the spirit. Sin is still ever before me, and unless I choose to abide, in the true vine Christ, I still can do nothing, as scripture says. But In Christ I can do all things.
  14. This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:5 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. James 1:17
  15. Interesting.... Psalm 33:12 Scripture "Blessed is the Nation Whose God is the Lord" God Bless America The story behind the song This is the story behind “God Bless America.” This simple one-verse song became an overnight hit, and a hopeful song as war threatened. “It’s not a patriotic song,” composer Irving Berlin said in a 1940 interview, “but an expression of gratitude for what this country has done for its citizens, of what home really means.” Today, many Americans consider “God Bless America” an unofficial national anthem of the United States. Lesson Content Irving Berlin (1888–1989) https://www.kennedy-center.org/globalassets/education/resources-for-educators/classroom-resources/artsedge/media/story-behind-the-song/god-bless-america/irving-berlin.jpgThe life of Irving Berlin is a uniquely American success story. He was born Israel Baline in the Jewish village of Tyumen, in a harsh region of Russia known as Siberia. When he was about five, an anti-Jewish mob destroyed his family’s home, and the Balines set out for America. They settled on New York’s Lower East Side. Irving Berlin's father died when he was eight, and “Izzy” went to work selling newspapers to help support his family. As a young teen, he began singing in saloons and at some point taught himself piano. He began copying the musical styles of the day, and developed an incredible instinct for creating popular tunes that people loved to sing. A printing error on a published piece of sheet music left him with the name Irving Berlin, and that was the name he carried as he wrote song after song. In 1911, he wrote his first huge dance hit, “Alexander’s Ragtime Band.” After that, Berlin’s career took off like a rocket. He wrote stage musicals and film scores, and produced hit after hit. Many are still sung today, including: “White Christmas,” “Blue Skies,” “Always,” “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” “Heat Wave,” “I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm,”—and “God Bless America.” When describing his goal as a songwriter, Berlin said: “My ambition is to reach the heart of the average American…that vast intermediate crew which is the real soul of the country…. My public is the real people.” https://www.kennedy-center.org/globalassets/education/resources-for-educators/classroom-resources/artsedge/media/story-behind-the-song/god-bless-america/kate-smith.jpgKate Smith, one of the great singers of her day, had asked for a new number for her radio show. The year was 1938, and she was looking for something fresh to mark the 20th anniversary of the end of the Great War, what would later be called World War I. Irving Berlin had composer’s block. Berlin felt the urgency to deliver. He had recently returned from Europe, where catastrophe was brewing. Nazi Germany, led by Adolf Hitler, was growing more powerful and aggressive and seemed to be preparing for war. But Berlin wasn’t focused on writing a get-America-ready-for-war song. He wanted to create something to celebrate America as a special place to live. Then he remembered a song he had drafted years earlier. He pulled out an old trunk and dusted off the 20-year-old manuscript. https://www.kennedy-center.org/globalassets/education/resources-for-educators/classroom-resources/artsedge/media/story-behind-the-song/god-bless-america/god-bless-america-lyrics.jpg Reviving and Revising a Forgotten Song In 1918, Sergeant Irving Berlin was stationed at Camp Upton in Yaphank, on Long Island, New York. Berlin was already a successful songwriter, now a draftee, and his commanding officer enlisted him to write a musical revue to help raise money for a new building. The result was Yip, Yip, Yaphank, a light-hearted musical revue about army life featuring music, skits, and military drills. The show produced one of the hits of World War I, “Oh! How I Hate to Get Up in the Morning,” a comic song about a soldier’s reluctance to answer reveille, the army’s early AM alarm clock played on a bugle. https://www.kennedy-center.org/globalassets/education/resources-for-educators/classroom-resources/artsedge/media/story-behind-the-song/god-bless-america/irving-berling-oh-how-i-hate.jpg Berlin had written another song for the revue, but had cut it from the show. He thought the lyrics were too sappy. So “God Bless America” waited in that trunk for two decades. Then Kate Smith came calling. Now, Berlin looked over his earlier work and rapidly began rewriting and revising. He had less than two weeks to get it ready for her performance. Here is how the 1918 version had read: God Bless America, land that I love Stand beside her And guide her To the right with the light from above Make her victorious on land and foam God Bless America, my home sweet home. Berlin knew he had to change the line To the right with the light from above. “The Right” in politics had come to mean conservative political groups. He wanted a song that brought Americans together, not set Americans apart. And he changed Make her victorious…since it suggested military conquest, rather than the “peace song” he was shooting for. The result was the song most American school kids have learned by heart ever since. God bless America, land that I love Stand beside her and guide her Through the night with the light from above From the mountains, To the prairies, To the ocean white with foam God bless America, My home sweet home. Smith sang the song as the show closer on her live national broadcast that night. Berlin’s phone immediately began ringing off the hook. Everyone wanted to know where they could get the music. After that, Smith almost always included the song in her weekly show, and it became her trademark during a career that spanned five decades. She also added a short poem-prelude that Berlin had written: While the storm clouds gather far across the sea, Let us swear allegiance to a land that’s free, Let us all be grateful for a land so fair, As we raise our voices in solemn prayer. Storm clouds were indeed gathering over Europe. Less than a year after the debut of “God Bless America,” Germany’s war machine rolled into Poland, igniting World War II in Europe. (The Japanese had already invaded China two years earlier, beginning the war in Asia.) The United States would not officially join the war until the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. But as “God Bless America” grew in popularity, most Americans already feared that it was just a matter of time before the U.S. would be called to fight. During World War II, Berlin toured with his show This is the Army to raise money for the U.S. war effort. “God Bless America” was one of the featured songs. The God Bless America Foundation When it came to “God Bless America,” Irving Berlin and Kate Smith put their money where their mouths were. They donated all the royalties from the hit song to the Boy and Girl Scouts of America through the God Bless America Foundation. That arrangement is still in effect today. Other wartime songs would remind Americans what they were fighting against. Berlin’s “God Bless America” reminded them what they were fighting for. Thanks, Neighbor...
  16. We need His Blessing... Made me want to stand up at attention.
  17. Perhaps you may get/watch the movie, Scrooge. Frugal/cheap = miserly (a person (miser) who hoards wealth and spends as little money as possible)
  18. "The win goes to the strongest party if no one backs away" I get that, however; And then there is God in the mix, the deciding factor. "Back down!' and the other party says "I will not!" A slingshot in the right hands, directed by God, is lethal... Thanks, FJK...
  19. "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples" Jn 15
  20. That works for you and that is good in that you have stuck to your plan/goal. My mom taught me a home was the only thing to go in debt for. For my wife and I and young growing family way back when, I decided as the head of the family that because we continue to accrue more debt for stuff we thought we needed for our family and saw no end, we did the credit card cutting up and started the cookie jar principle. Put money in our cookie jar, remove when needed. No money, wait or work. Later we called it the envelope system, labeling envelops for necessities first like food electric water gas etc debt pat off, and then clothes and replacement items. Amazing what we found out what we could do without. If there was no money in the jar, or no money for some breakdown, tuff. Live without or work extra jobs to supplement. All debt was eventually eliminated, but we stayed in that old 'temporary' falling apart "temporary" house trailer for 30 yrs. It didn't leak much and we sometimes shared it with a few local invading wildlife families. Our kids bought their own cars and paid their way through college. They worked for what they wanted and learned a work ethic, nothing is free. Credit cards are bad for most people who do not see how the system works. Owe no man anything. The kids left, married and have families. My wife and I then finally built our 'dream home,' debt free, God supplying all of what we needed for material and labor, my talent as a builder, and help from friends. Had we used the trap of world system of burrowing to have instant gratification we would still be in debt. And worse, had we just used the world system and went back in debt for a home we would NEVER have saw the hand of God at work, whom we trusted to supply all our needs in his timing, who supplied everything. I cannot say I built our home much as I would like to brag. God did, and I will always remember, be patient and trust God and his timing to work out how He takes care of us. God is faithful. Our best spiritual learning as a family was during those lean mean years.
  21. I remember reading some of Billy Graham on his childhood, and he said if the child protective services of today saw how poorly Billy's family was back then, they would put his parents in jail as abusive. Being poor in the 40-50's was normal. Most everybody was but didn't know it if they had food and clothing and a roof over their head. Shoes were for Sunday only. Go to a third world country and get a better picture of how rich we really are blessed here in America. Shouldn't wonder the masses of people trying to get their family here across the border however they can. Yes, I agree Marathoner, poverty is relative. The poor widow woman giving away her last two mites gave all.
  22. I'm reasonably sure you grew up with parents and grandparents that went through the great depression. They knew how to make ends meet raising a family during those hard times. This carried over to our generation, at least in our family. Nothing, nothing was thrown away. It was repaired, not replaced, and then moved onto a lesser use. I remember when I was tall enough to be able to wash dishes when at grandmas house. We washed all tinfoil, folded it and reused it. War time mentality, save metal. When it became so limp to use, we cut it into ribbons and hung them on the fig trees to scare away the mocking birds that ate our food. My parents only bought day old bread and the discounted veggies/fruits with bruises packed in crates. Crates I scrounged to make my rabbit hutches and my homing pigeon loft. When the bread began too get moldy, scrape it off and make bread pudding. We loved bread pudding, it was sweet. Sweet stuff was very rare back then. There was nine in the family to feed and clothe. I was lucky in that I was second born so my hand me down clothes were great compared to the last born. Shoes typically had cardboard inside when the soles wore out. Wheaties cereal boxes had the most durable cardboard. I was taught to sew and repair my clothes, not affording new. All the trees bushes and plants were fruit bearing and not ornamental, peach pecan fig strawberry etc and veggies. Remember getting a dollar to cut the grass, real push mower, a dollar to hand edge and weed the garden. Folding money and I felt rich. Fishing trips were actually a meat run. Washtubs of trout, gut and gilled, individually rapped in saved newspapers to stow away in the chest freezer. The freezer we have today was bought in the late seventies, 43 yrs old, that was bought because living just a few blocks from the bay I fished regularly and we kept it full. Frugal, and fresh and free. I finally retired about 6 months ago and am going through the 'junk' I have been saving for a lifetime. Downsizing, so as to not be a chore for my wife should I die any time soon. It's hard. It is good usable material, steel/pipe and lumber/plywood,tons of hardware and plumbing, electrical equipment and lighting, tools and tooling. Machine area and wood working, my trade tools. Good old equipment manufactured to maintain, and not china throw away junk to replace each year. But today's mentality dictates a modular style, replace it not fix it. Get a new one. We're a dying breed Neighbor. I believe it's important to be a good steward of all God's blessings/provisions. My mind believes, knows, myself or someone in need will 'eventually' call to see if I have a such and such and I'll ask what size, come over and we'll look. A good feeling to pass on God's provisions to others. There is less calls now as my older friends just go out and buy a new such and such online, or call a repairman to fix their problem. cool. God provides in his own many ways. "when does being frugal become miserly?" When it gets to the point where being frugal, overly careful/cautious/tight fisted, with our blessings/provisions, unduly influence our freedom/desire to pass on our blessings to others. Becoming a hoarder. Building bigger barns. Self contentment by stuff. When we stop trusting God and depend only upon getting/having. Seems once I learned you can't out give God my pile of neat 'junk' began to grow. The more I gave away, the bigger the pile grew. And in so many other ways than just neat junk. I'm hoping to find another like minded to unload my stuff that he can pass it on. To whom much is given much is required. Honestly, considering all the bases, I'm the richest man I know. Frugal is good, but with the continued desire to give and not hoard.
  23. I have been warning friends and church members since the early eighties to consider removing their children from the government run public schools that force government curricula and experimental programs on our/their children. "Values Clarification" or as the psychologist term it "Situational Ethics," has been taught in every government school in every grade. Sadly, almost nobody listens because removing their children will mean a huge change in their lifestyles. Only one income if home schooled, then private or Christian school expense, no new Suburban for mom or nicer home, maybe loss of college etc. Our corrupt government has been grooming the kids for many decades now, and those kids are now in the decision making politics, making laws that effect every one. The colleges/universities don't teach students how to think anymore, but what to think. And the beat goes on...and God is still on the throne, and prayer changes things... :)
