  1. Let's not forget jealousy and fear.
  2. It looks like the best answer is a combination of Believer's and LadyPearTree's. I know that some men can't handle both a family crisis and a relationship; in which case you need to give him time and space. Men are funny creatures but we love 'em. A huge difference between "them" and "us" is that women tend to lend each other support, comfort and help while men tend to want to deal with issues alone. (I'm sure this is a broad statement, but it makes a point.) Whatever you do, ask God for help in coming to the right conclusions. (Remember, Satan is happy to put mistrust and saddness into your life. Don't let him!)
  3. I am not yet affiliated with a particular church, but I feel very strongly that I should be baptised. How do I go about finding a church that will do this (I want the good old-fashioned full-immersion dunking) without them trying to get me to join a church? Do you call up and ask "Do you baptise non-members?" I'm very serious about this, and obviously fairly clueless.
  4. WOW! Just WOW! Thanks for the link!
  5. Weren't there 12 tribes? Does this mean 2 have been found?
  6. I've not been to any of those, but I love kitchy stuff like that! I've been to Magnetic Hill in New Brunswick, Canada. It was pretty cool. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_Hill_(Canada)
  7. First, my hubby and I were bored so we went to the $1.25 movie theater today. We saw "Percy Jackson The Lightening Thief". It was fun until I realized that the people in the movie were either Olympic "gods" or the illegitimate offspring of them. I know it was just a story and obviously I don't accept the possibility of gods, but I wondered about the message being given to the little kids in the theater. I don't know, it just made me a bit uncomfortable. Also, it was pretty violent and had images such as skulls and souls writhing in hell, and I imagine there will be some nightmares in some of the homes of those kids. Second, I heard QB John Roethen-something giving his heart-felt apology for his wicked behavior. At the end he quoted verse "I don't want to gain the world and lose my soul". I almost choked. I just feel like someone gave him the whole speech and threw that last in to convince us that he's a great guy. I bet that his speech was written by the same person who wrote Tiger Woods' big apology. ok (/rant)
  8. So very touching! It really puts a fine point on how families, especially kids, miss their soldier. You have to feel the relief and love in their faces. Thank you for sharing it.
  9. We could make a game of this! Give part of a song or passage and we guess its origin.
  10. I was given a copy of The Book of Mormon once. I started reading it, got thru 2 or 3 chapters and realized it was very weird and only circumstantially Christian. It went into the trash. White lizards, indeed!
  11. Catholics have Cardinal Sin and Venial Sin. Q. What is the difference between a mortal sin and a venial sin? A. For a sin to be mortal, three conditions must exist at the same time. 1. It must be of a grave matter; 2. It must be committed with full knowledge that it is a mortal sin; 3. It must be committed with full consent. [Full consent means to do it "voluntarily."] Q. Can you provide me with a list of possible mortal sins? A. Abortion, Anger, Adulterers, Amending the words of the Holy Bible, Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, (Eternal sin) Carousing, Cowards, Defrauders, Dissensions, Disrespect towards parents, Drunkenness, Enmities, Envy, Factions, Faithless, False witness (liars) Fornicators, Greed, Holy Communion received while in a state of mortal sin, Idolatry, Impurity, Jealousy, Licentiousness, Love and practice falsehoods, Male prostitution, Murderers, Polluted, Quarrelling, Sodomites, Sorcery, Strife, Thieves (steal/robbers). Q. What is a venial sin? A. The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines a venial sin as follows: "Venial sin allows charity to subsist, even though it offends and wounds it." (To "subsist" means to "exist.") (C.C.C. # 1855) "Venial sin constitutes a moral disorder that is reparable by charity, which it allows to subsist in us." (C.C.C. # 1875) "One commits venial sin when, in a less serious matter, he does not observe the standard prescribed by the moral law,or when he disobeys the moral law in a grave matter, but without full knowledge or without complete consent." (C.C.C. #. 1862) "Venial sin weakens charity; it manifests a disordered affection for created goods; it impedes the soul's progress in the exercise of the virtues and the practice of the moral good; it merits temporal punishment. Deliberate and unrepented venial sin disposes us little by little to commit mortal sin. However venial sin does not set us in direct opposition to the will and friendship of God; it does not break the covenant with God. With God's grace it is humanly reparable. 'Venial sin does not deprive the sinner of sanctifying grace, friendship with God, charity, and consequently eternal happiness.'" (C.C.C. # 1863) ____________________ Apparently, venial sin is lots less offensive to God than Mortal sin, but can lead to mortal sin. I don't know how relevant this is to the original post, but it has always fascinated me. That you can weigh the effect of your sin, that is. Also, the list of mortal sins is quite impressive. http://www.catholicdoors.com/faq/qu06.htm#answer4
