Ever heard of all saints day? If we didn't have christian holidays to counter the pagan holidays, we would have a hard time explaining to our kids why pagans are allowed to have more fun. Let the kids be kids. They don't give a diddley about pagan nonsense. It sounds like some of you have forgotten what it's like to be a kid. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The same argument could be made of saving oneself for marriage, not using drugs, not getting hammered on alcohol, etc etc <{POST_SNAPBACK}> huh? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Many consider it a vital part of one's youth to get wasted, have lots of sex, etc. These things are no mroe a vital part of being young than celebrating Christmas is vital to being a child. Why not have your children delight in God's appointed times rather than manmade tradition?

The problem is that you are celebrating it in a pagan manner. You are misrepresenting the Almighty. He really, really does not like it when people do that. I also celebrate the birth of out Messiah. I just don't do it on Dec. 25 or with a tree, st nick or any of the other trappings that go along with Christmas. Its kinda weird. The same camp that says that every day is the sabbath in Messiah so we dont need to keep it on the 7th day (or any day) insists upon keeping the celebration of His birth on a pagan holiday which traditionally celebrated the birth of a pagan god. Truly mind boggling Please, ask away. I do understand that I come off as harsh at times but that is because I am very passionate about these things. I would not celebrate anything on Oct 31 either. G-d gave us His moedim for a reason, we don't need to add more.

Most of the passages you quoted have already happened. His people are being brought back to their land now. It won't be long before they are ready to receive the truth about Messiah as well.

Christmas is a golden calf.

Scripture is clear, G-d will uphold His end of the covenant whether or not they choose to uphold theirs.

I was looking at some of the Kotel webcams this morning, there are quite a few buses there, lots and lots of people praying there. A very sad day indeed. -
Yeh and while we're at it lets plant a big ol rainforest in Florida. What are these people thinking?

Mebbe you should check out the video found here, CFS.

Not sure I follow 100%. Why would this rabbi be calling you? All of the Lubovichers I have met have been fairly friendly toward my Messianic beliefs, much more so than the Orthodox community at large. Mebbe he just wanted to talk?

Yes there are vocal Palestinian extremist who favour this approach, and there are equqlly unpleasant Israeli bigots who call for the expulsion of all Arabs from Israel and the occupied territories. Neither approacviableh is one that would bring peace or is even feasable. The creation of a secure Israeli and Palestinian states within,or very close to the 1967 borders is the only real solution to the current problem. By this I mean states whose security is guaranteed by the major world powers; and which are also given a secure economic base. It's a solution the majority of Palestinians and Israelis would live with. It won't please the extremists of any hue, but they feed off extreme situations of injustice and inequality such as those currently facing many Palestinians, and would be marginalised by a just solution. In reality Palestinians and Israelis (even, as we are seeing in these days, hawks like Sharon)are as sensible and pragmatic as any other people if offered a solution that gives them real security and material advantage <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Um...yeh.

Odd...it permitted Paul to live like that.

Also Gal 3:39 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Yes, it is a very serious day of mourning in Jewish tradition. You aren't even allowed to read Torah on that day except for things like Lamentations because reading Torah is a joyous act. A day of fasting, you aren't supposed to even sit on a chair before midday, a meal is often eaten just before starting the fast known as the Seudah Hamaf-seket which consists of bread, water and a hard boiled egg. The meal is eaten alone while sitting in the mourners position and the food is dipped in ashes. I could go on, but aish has some good articles on it which can be found here

SJ, though I'm sure you know on which points I disagree with you, great post, I hope that helps the OP.

Oh my, I had not realized this sunday was the 9th of Av. My heart skipped when I read that Zayit.

Doesn't bother me, but I don't celebrate it.

I am a convert from Judaism. I tend to use traditional Jewish terminology because I am a Jew, as do my Jewish friends! You comments are offensive to say the least. G-d has preserved us as a people and our traditions for over 3,000 years and we aren't about to give them up now!

Cool! I was reading that some believe that David's palace has also been found, though I cannot seem to locate the link to that story atm.

But those are no different than Torah. How do you know how to love your neighbor? G-d? Is it written upon your heart? if so, precisely what is written there? If you love G-d with all your heart do you not think it appropriate to dedicate one day to Him..the day which He set aside for us to do just that? Also, He was most definitely referring to Torah in Matthew 5. The context makes this clear. "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." Here Yeshua makes it clear that not one jot nor tittle shall pass from the Law, yet you are suggesting that He said the very opposite. That the vast majority of jots and tittles have indeed passed away. He also makes it clear that while you can attain salvation without the Law, if you do so and teach others to do so you will be called least in the Kingdom. Furtheremore, there was no NT for His followers to reference when He was saying these things ("If you love me...." "He who breaks the least....", etc.). How could they have possibly understood His words according to your view? Why did Yeshua, in fact, expand upon the Law in certain respects in Mat. 5 if He was doing away with it? Why did He Himself obey not only Torah but also the Oral Law when it did not conflict with Torah?

If He dioesn't care one bit why did He say that those who did not keep His commandments would be called least in the Kingdom? Why did He say if you love Me keep them? I am not attempting to bait you, but if you wish to take that postition and remain intellectually honest, these questions must be answered.
