    vows

I guess I don't even know the purpose of a vow really except to do something for the Lord to try to please Him.

    vows

Sorry, that is Numbers 30. : p My point is, which you all probably get by now, is what would people , or would anybody even nowadays vow to the Lord? The apostle Paul did as mentioned in the book of acts But we don't know what it was. Wondering maybe if some did it to help themselves stick to something by adding some fear of the Lord to get it done.

    Duet 23.

    James 5:12

Do not swear by anything 'but your yes is to be yes, and your no, no, so that you do not fall under judgment.' Why would you fall under judgement?

    vows

In the old covenant of the law, there were rules for making vows to the Lord, and you were bound to them.

    vows

What on earth did they 'vow'? And why?
  7. Somewhere it says to carry one another's burdens, so that means they are making the load lighter for you, so telling others can definitely benefit, but not just anybody, someone you trust or feel led to.
  8. Sorry, I couln 't resist.
  9. It does seem like the lines are blurred with some of these things as in kwikphilly's post. I think tho these 'supernatural' things are called that because they are out of the ordinary. You couldnt argue that with an unbeliever, they would have to freak out with something 'supernatural' to stutter and say it is resulted from evolution. And to prove of course Jesus words He backed them up with signs in the form of wonders healings miracles. Curious to know what a wonder is. What is a wonder? I wonder...
  10. A miracle is different how from a healing? What is a wonder. A sign I think is a back up. An added proof. Etc. Etc. Etc. I would love a clear cut definition to these things.
  11. Personally, I think it is often preached because people don't give enough to not only cover church expenses but a pastors salary as well which is mentioned several times in the new testement. 'Those who preach the gospel should get their living from the gospel' (My paraphrase because I don't know where it is at the moment). I believe in tithing and the testimonies of people who 'tested' it. I tested it, and it worked for me.

    The sluggard

Proverbs 19: 24 I always have to kind of laugh at this imagery. 'The slugged buries his hand in the dish, But will not even bring it back to his mouth.' Now obviously nobody really does that, at least I don't think, so what exactly is the point here. ?
  13. "Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will succeed." Does this really make sense. They won't even be your plans, they will be the Lord's then. Now in the nasb it says "..and your plans will be established."
  14. I liked that answer best. Sounds pretty obvious really. Thanks.
  15. Hi Pamelasv, Well you do ask some very interesting & thought provoking questions. Good on you. I did like bopeep`s answer also. Now my thoughts on this matter. Well we know that Lucifer was in a position of great power in the third heaven & that position with his order (1/3 of angles) of angels is still vacant. Also when Lucifer/Satan usurped authority in the principalities & powers realm (Prince of the power of the air) he will yet be cast from that area in the Universal realm of authority, & thus all these areas of authority will come under the Lord Jesus Christ with those He/God has designated to rule there. And of course there are the kingdoms of this world that will become the kingdoms of the Lord. All authority in all realms of God`s great kingdom from the third heaven to the Universal heavens & the earth. A grand purpose being fulfilled by a wonderful Saviour & Lord. Blessed be His wonderful name. Marilyn.
  16. I guess I see it as since we have to be in subjection to government authorities...they should have paid taxes to Caesar. But also, that would have looked very rebellous, and could have been thrown in jail. Not pretty for Jesus' ministry, IMO.
  17. Maybe not. Which is why so many people love animals.
  18. Those last two comments seem to make sense. Thanks.
  19. I meant Jesus would affect those in different ways who reject Him.
  20. Well Jesus could have just pulled the Shekle out of from behind his ear, but Peter had to go and do something to get it. Kind of ironic, since Peter was a fisherman. lol. I just thought of that.
  21. 'And he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will scatter him like dust.' What do these mean translated into non parable form. I can understand basically what it means, but there are two different ones that apparantly have a different meaning that Jesus will affect those who reject Him in different ways.
  22. Matt:24-27 Why do you think 1: Jesus made Peter go fishing for the sheckle, and 2: why do you think He used one coin for the both of them?(That kind of sounds like 'oneness' to me as in the gospel of John He talks about being one with the Father, and 'I in You, and them in me...'
  23. In the above link, the 'analizer' says Beth Moore promotes contemplative prayer, which is emptying of the mind, thus inviting basically demonic teachings to fill it. She specifically says it is for communion with God, not just letting it go empty and see what happens. This is one reason I would not listen to the author of the former article. I do not listen to Beth Moore myself, did once and was not interested. You can get book or listen to her yourself with caution, if you already have knowledge on the bible yourself that is.
  24. May sound like a question most people don't care about, but it always bothers me. '...causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.' Is the point of growing in love, or the building up of itself while in love, or can you not be build up without love, so it would have to be the first option? Sort of like speaking the truth in love, but the point is speaking the truth there.
  25. As far as junk food, as questioned earlier, I would think if it was all you had to eat, ask God to bless it and give thanks, perhaps He wll convert it and make it healthy : D. Otherwise, if we know better, obviously we need to do better than alot of that.
