  1. Father" in the Bible: Romans 8:15 http://biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ro...amp;version=31; Key to the Christian faith is the belief that, when we're saved by Christ, God embraces us as His children. Abba, Father
  2. I was reading the song of Moses in Deuteronomy 32 and came across this. 5
  3. PSALM 101:2-3 I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart; I WILL SET NO WICKED THING BEFORE MY EYES" I HATE THE WORK OF THEM THAT TURN ASIDE, IT SHALL NOT CLEAVE TO ME. MATTHEW 15:15-20 IN CONTEXT Peter said, "Explain the parable to us." "Are you still so dull?" Jesus asked them. "Don't you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? 18But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.' For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what make a man 'unclean'; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him 'unclean.' "
  4. Exactly Nebula :-( When we start liking worldly stuff more...and so on it is because we are neglecting our alter. However you choose to do it, make a special time each day to be with the Lord. Whether it is driving in your car or sitting at your desk with a Bible or praying and worshipping while you do the dishes, spend time alone with the Lord. The more you practice spending time with Him daily, the more you will have that desire to talk about the one you love most. You will also begin to pray without ceasing because not matter what comes your way, your thoughts will be directed toward Him. Sometimes I pray more than others. I may start out to pray for half an hour but the Holy Spirit will impress upon me to keep praying until He releases me. That is the best prayer time because when I come out of my prayer closet every heavy burden is gone off my shoulders. Like Nebula, we all have times like that. I have found myself on occassion praying half hartedly because my mind would go back to something else...for example, got company coming and need to clean the house til it sparkles...and sometimes I have prayed but it wasn't as dinamic a prayer time as last time but still, the Lord heard. One way I have learned to keep from pouring out my needs to Him all the time and not spending quality time with Him is to enter into a time of worship before I pray. Sometimes I put on praise music, something directed at Him and how worthy He is, and just raise my hands and worship Him, love Him until I can feel His presence and my focus is now centered on Him. Even typing this right now my thoughts are turned to His goodness and I have to stop here and there and raise my hands. I get all misty eyed when I think about wonderful He is. Sometimes I have to really press in hard. Our advisary will try to keep us from praying. Try to keep us focused on other things, and so will our flesh, but we have to press in with a determination to seek the face of the Lord. Sometimes I have to examine my heart before I can go into His presence, asking Him to forgive me and cleanse me from sin. Then I can interceed for others. One thing He has taught me these past few years is that if I am troubled by anything, or struggling with myself, I can go right to Him and He is there to speak to my heart and lift me out or up, whatever the case may be. He is my hiding place and I can go to Him with whatever is on my heart. Many times He will show me a scripture and speak to me when I am praying. Often times I pray as I am reading my Bible. Sometimes I even read it out loud because the enemy has to run right then if he is trying to distract me by bringing up things from the past or perhaps trying to throw a doubting spirits arrow at me or whatever. I hope I have been of some help to you. This journey is a life long journey, so just keep on keeping on and the Lord will lead you in the right direction.
  5. I cannot think of a time the Lord told someone not to speak for a specific amount of time. I can say very definately, however, that if you made a vow then follow through for he does say it is better not to make a vow than to make one and not do it. Also, He sometimes tells us to be still and know that I AM God. Being queit before the Lord coupled with fasting helps us hear Him more clearly.
  6. A word of caution, especially when thinking programs, books...are just entertainment and harmless. 2Pe 3:17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know [these things] before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. 2Pe 3:18 But grow in grace, and [in] the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him [be] glory both now and for ever. Amen. 2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 2Ti 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. I believe it was 20/20 this week that interviewed the woman who wrote Harry Potter. She said it's about love. Harry Potter is not at all something anyone should let draw them into the deception of the world or satan. Isn't it better to turn away from it than try to justify it as a means of entertainment. Todays world is calling evil good and good evil. No wonder so many are confused about the truth. The Lord gave us His word to tell us how to live, what to avoid, how to fight what the devil tries to push on us through posing as an angel of light. If you are defending Harry Potter please don't take my words alone for it but read what God Himself says about such things and take Him at His word.
  7. Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth [his] hands to vex certain of the church. Act 12:2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. Act 12:3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.) Act 12:4 And when he had apprehended him, he put [him] in prison, and delivered [him] to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people. Act 12:5
  8. O.K., here is one place in the word that tells us those things that are sinful. Just because Harry Potter is centered around drawing our children in a wrong direction, uses wizardry, witchcraft and reenforces the wrong misconception that there are good wizards as well as bad one, good witches as well as bad ones...is there any reason for believing the Lord hates it?! Here is His list to measure by. If we are not convicted by watching such things then we need to be about reading the Lords words on the subject so He can give us clear direction on how to stay on the straight and narrow path. Before I was saved I loved I dream of Jeanie type shows...but the Lord took up residence here and I cannot seem to get too comfortable hearing and watching such things anymore...and if I do then it will be time for a search me Lord time...I just love the way the Holy Spirit helps us keep a check on ourselves. I am sooooo thankful the Lord is so patient with us. Blessings. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God
  9. Hebrews 10:35-39 35Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. 36For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. 37For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. 38Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. 39But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
  10. I couldn't get this one off my mind until I looked it up a little more for you. I found this study guide on the subject at Blue Letter Bible It is a study by David Guzik and it is one of the best I have seen so far. c. The kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force: Jesus
  11. 12And from the days of John the Baptist until the present time, the kingdom of heaven has endured violent assault, and violent men seize it by force [as a precious prize--a [a]share in the heavenly kingdom is sought with most ardent zeal and intense exertion]. (Amplified Bible) Those words as a prize... sought after! Sometimes we have to fight in our prayer closets, sometimes we have to press in and seek the Lord with all our might...He's worth it! Take hold of what is ours by faith and fight the good fight no matter what!!! There's a prize! His name is Jesus!
  12. All the scriptures above are what the Lord has to say about close friends. Here is something to keep in mind as well. Are you influencing your friends who are not saved or are they influencing you? Most non Christians don't usually want to hang too close to someone sold out to Jesus anyway, unless the Lord is drawing them to HIMSELF using your influence. If they are, however, becoming too much of an influence on us we may need to do a heart search to see if we are where we need to be with the Lord. "Search me , O Lord, and know my heart and see if there be some wicked way in me and cleanse me from every sin and set me free."
  13. When I read the scripture below today, I thought of so many who are deceived by things like horoscopes,Quiji boards, these new rising t.v. programs with psyics, and the new craze Harry Potter...some even are deceiving themselves by believing there are good wizards and good witches as well as bad...thats what this sort of so called literature does to young minds and minds not grounded in God's word. If we begin to think it is just a movie, or just a show so it can do no harm, thats a lie the devil likes. God's word tells us not to even think about the things done in secret by those who do such evil...and if we have it right in front of our eyes we are definately not doing what the Lord said. And He said it because it gets into our spirit...as a man thinks so is he...so it is not good to fill our minds with all the stuff coming at us through t.v. and movies, and even our computers because it really is harmful whether one believes it or not. Fellow Christian, if you are having trouble with any of the stuff being pushed on us through media these days, take heart and listen to what the Lord says about it. But God says, De:18:9: When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. De:18:10: There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, De:18:11: Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. De:18:12: For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. De:18:13: Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God. De:18:14: For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do. EVEN COMEDY CAN HAVE A BAD AFFECT AT TIMES I was flicking through the channels one night this past week and stopped at a comedy routine I thought looked funny. About 2 minutes later I was in tears because of the filth I witnessed. I had just watched a movie I thought was a comedy the night before and it was so horrible I cannot even talk about it, but the horror of it did not present itself until the movie was near the end, now this so called comedy which turned my stomach...my t.v was ()this close to the trash can! Remember what we used to say often about drugs...JUST SAY NO! It works well with the stuff we put into our minds, too. The Christian station in my area has now been replaced with sports t.v. since July 12th has come and gone. That was the deadline for HD conversion...just one more things that lets me know one thing I am sure of...the time is ripe for our Lord and we need to be looking for Him to return!! DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANY SCRIPTURES TO STAND ON CONCERNING THIS SUBJECT
  14. I am very surprised at his response to King. If we try to avoid a straight answer to such a question as the one Larry King asked, perhaps to avoid offending someone, we are wrong. We need to tell those who asked such questions the truth. There are souls at stake! There are such things going around like "all roads lead to heaven" junk, and so we need to tell people the truth...Jesus is the ONLY way to heaven no matter who you are or what background you come from. Sin is sin and God hates sin. Yes, many Christians have been beaten down and need healing and encouragement and motivation, but there is still a heaven to gain and a hell to shun. I love Joel. He has said something more than once that has been just what I needed to hear. The Lord is using him, even if he was wrong.
  15. We are not ignorant of satans devices. The Lord has given us many instructions concerning our enemy. I personally pray the blood over myself often...he cannot cross the blood line. Also, remember, witchcraft has a person at the other end trying to "cast spells". Some of those involved in witchcraft have been known to repent and be saved, coming out of their old lifestyle. So, not only can we cancel every evil spell, hex spirit of darkness away from our lives in the name of Jesus, but we can pray for those who would do us harm. I believe Jesus said it this way, "Pray for those who would harm you..." I like to remember when Paul set that young woman free from her satanic influence when she kept troubling him. He simply told her to be quiet! Made her bosses, who made money from her "fortune telling", pretty mad, but that devil sure shut up! Also, in the book of Exodus the sorcerers or as Pharoah called them his priests, everytime they tried to do some wierd trick the Lord brought them to nothing. Like when they sent out snakes to show Moses their powers...Moses rod turned into a snake that gobbled theirs up...Jesus crushed the serpents head and in His name, it is a done deal!!! We are victorious through the blood of Jesus and the word of our testimony!! And remember, NO weapon formed against us shall prosper!! It's in the Word! It is written! :-) One more thing I think is important pertaining to the original question, can witchcraft affect a believer...if the believer becomes rebellious the Lord says that is like the sin of witchcraft...and it is needed for that one to go to the Lord and be forgiven and restored in love. Our God loves us so very much. His love never ceases to amaze me.
  16. One of the first things I learned about truth when I was first born again was that Jesus is the Truth, the Way and the Life. That being said, once we see with our spiritual eyes the Truth, we begin to learn that He is the Word and we begin to understand being sanctified through the word. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16 In John 17 Jesus prayed for the disciples, "Father sanctify them through Thy truth, Thy word is truth." The more we stay in the word, the more we study and learn of Him, the more the Father reveals truth to us as we grow in the grace and knowledge the Word... one day at a time, one step at a time... Your initial post sounds confusing...so I posted both about your friend and about the Truth ...hope it is helpful The Lord will reveal it to your friend in His time, keep her in prayer and whatever her need let Him show her the way if she refuses to hear you.
  17. That is exactly what I thought when I visited. The amazing thing is their statement of faith and doctrine are totally in line with scripture. Their movement is called a revolution. I was bumfuzzeled because I did not feel the presence of the Lord, yet the songs were Jesus centered (rock). People were there to worship because I did see a few raised hands... I went home feeling like I had experienced culture shock both in that state and that church and I began fasting and praying for revival there. I could not find a way to tell my loved one how I felt about that church, so prayer was in order big time. I here about the times changing all around me, but there is one thing I know...the Lord does not change.
  18. In the past few years I have witnessed the shift of some churches and Christians breaking from the norm and calling themselves a movement. It has always been my understanding that whenever a "movement" rises up it is for the purpose of breaking free from something. For example, the Hippi Movement in the 60's. people were breaking free from the moral and social standards of our country and "doing their own thing". The womens movement brought womens rights to the forefront by bra burning, women wanted to be treated, not just equally, but like men. Womens lib surfaced. Gay rights movement... rebellion is what seems to me is the catalist for every movement. Granted there have been some good come from many so called movements, but what if a church says something like, "We are not just a church we are a movement". What if that movement is encouraging lack of Biblical standards, yet preaches Jesus. Kids are running around without discipline, youth are dressed in anything provocotive they choose, strobe lights replace what should be an atmosphere of reverance for the Lord and kids are encouraged to buy from the snack bar as they go out the door instead of receiving rewards as they go out the door, the fellowship snack bar for adults is a balcony overlooking the sanctuary and people are running about up there while the music ministry is in worship music "mode" and then the pastor comes on and preaches something that can be heard only over bird calls and ofcourse, the balcony is still active...is this kind of "movement" actually drawing people to Christ, or away from His unchanging Word and standard of true holiness? Someone I love dearly goes to one of these movement churches and it troubles me that more harm than good can come if not well grounded on what the Lord's unchanging word says...stand on sound doctrine and do not be drawn away by every wind and doctrine of man.
  19. I tend to shy away from preacher's that take credit for divine healing. If any healing IS being done, its being done by God. 1 Samuel 24 (King James Version) 10Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered thee to day into mine hand in the cave: and some bade me kill thee: but mine eye spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he is the LORD's anointed. Sometimes we need to warn people about false prophets...but when it is clear the one in question is anointed of the Lord, whether we agree with him or not, it is better to honor the Lord and not try to destroy that persons reputation. Our God is well able to correct our brother if he sins or makes any mistakes and our part is to pray for him and lift him up just as we would want to be treated if we messed up...however...I have never heard Pastor Benny do anything less that impress upon people that it is Jesus Who does the miraculous things at the hand of Benny Hinn. He stresses imphatically that Jesus is Lord. Benny Hinn, Never takes the credit and he is always pointing people to Christ and salvation.
  20. The above goes for nurses and all medical personel as well. I worked as a nurse assistant years ago and when I was hired I was told I could not talk about Jesus to patients, but I could pray for them...:-) so everytime I prayed I would thank the Lord for Jesus dying for my salvation and for His love or quote scriptures such as John 3:16...aand so on...they need to hear
  21. I was on a mission trip once with a doctor that let people know he was a doctor, but Jesus is the Great Physician. Doctors, like Luke for example, should not only be allowed to tell people about Jesus, but prayerfully ask the Lord for every opportunity they can get to witness.
  22. Yes, because I know the voice of God and I know Benny Hinn has been anointed to go to the nations.
  23. God's child, you do need to prayerfully find a good church that teaches sound doctrine to get built up in your faith, grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord and learn more about Jesus. That is one of the best things you can do. The Bible teaches us not to forsake the assembling of the saints because we have an advesary who hates us, the devil, and so we need understand that he is the one that instigates wrong thinking such as constant doubts and fears. Our thought life is so very important. Thats is why it is so very important to learn what the Bible says about doubts and fears and salvation...the devil does not want you to believe it when the Bible says there is therefore no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus so he will send lies your way and you must realize that when a wrong thought of doubt, disbelief and fears come at you that it is actually the words in the Bible that defeats those thoughts. The word of God is The Sword of the Spirit. You also need to go to the Lord and talk to Him about everything that is troubling you. Yes, He already knows it, but He wants you to come to Him and tell Him anyway. You see one of satans devices is to try to make people afraid of saying what is on their mind because then the devil will know it. That is one really good reason to tell the Lord, not everyone, just the Lord, all that is on your mind so He can get glory from what He does for you. For example, "Father, I have a problem with doubts and fears. I need Your help to overcome this. I know You are the Lord, yet those doubts come at me...In Jesus name I pray..." He will begin to reveal Himself to you and you will learn to spend time in His presence. The enemy will try to fight you by bringing doubts and fears...but you will soon realize that as you stand firm in your faith and hold tight to the promises in the Bible that the enemy has no power over you or your thought life. You will learn to quickly recognize when he is the instigator of that doubt or fear so it can no longer get a strong hold on your mind. Talk to the Lord, read your Bible, I like to go to the Psalms first when I am feeling in need of encouragement, and don't neglect going to a good church...not just a feel good church...but a church that loves you enough to teach the truth in love. Trust the Lord with your life...you won't be sorry :-) be blessed as you grow to know His everlasting love for you and best of all know Him! Beth Moore has been doing a wonderful series with Life Today on A Beautiful Mind. All the teaching tools we can get are wonderful and needful...but the best place to start is your own Bible, and your own prayer time with the Lord.
