  1. You ARE in an abusive marriage. https://freedomprogramme.co.uk/docs/freedomprog-chapter2.pdf I was in the exact situation (divorced 3 years ago and lived 2 months in a women's shelter). I was given this pdf and my jaw dropped...I had no idea I was being abused! My ex is a narcissit and yes, it sucks the life and air right out of you! Men and women are equal in the body of Christ. We are to love and honor each other (Ephesian 5:22-33). Do you have a pastor to talk about this situation with? I am from a fundamentalist background and divorce is the LAST option for us. It was explained to me that Matthew 19:6 (what god has joined together, let no man pull apart)...that man should not pull apart a marriage but that does not mean that GOD won't pull a marriage apart when it's necessary. I swore never to divorce and yet I did. God pulled my marriage apart at the seams and it was very hard for me. It was for the best though, and I am mentally/physically healthier than ever before. I think my ex is healthier in some ways as well. https://greenhaven4help.com/the-cycle-of-abuse/ this is a good link that explains the "honeymoon phase" of abuse, how things get better before they get worse...it was helpful for me Your husband doesn't like you being a Christian. You are unequally yoked then. (2 Corinthians 6: 14-18) Spouses should love and support each other, not control and abuse. If you have ANY questions please message me!!!!! I just wanted to share my view on this. I am praying for you both! Katrina
  2. Plavious how are you doing? Praying you are well! Katrina
  3. Have you ever been in a conversation and just heard things that were beyond worldly, and just like NOPE...opting out of this discussion. Also have y'all noticed that some non believers like to describe their sin because they think it's funny....sigh How would you handle the above situation? I just left! Thanks for your time! Katrina
  4. sore feet and being in the north, i need more shoes than i would in ga... shoes I had in Georgia : sneakers, winter boots, sandals Shoes I have in Finland: sandals, sneakers, waterproof boots, light winter boots, heavy winter boots, gym shoes, hiking shoes, indoor shoes, knockoff crocs for taking out trash
  5. Thanks for the responses, very interesting! I appreciate the insight! Katrina
  6. Has anyone ever had a vow and then felt God freed from it? I know we're supposed to pay our vows to God but if circumstances change, for example like your personal safety is at risk, etc...how can you tell if God removes you from the vow? Thanks for your time! Katrina
  7. I was part of a fundamentalist Baptist board but one of the moderators passed away, and the person who owned it went through a divorce. It's still up but no one seems to be posting there these days.
  8. Thank y'all for the replies and sorry for my late reply. Lots of great points and views! I find it great I can ask questions and not be shamed for my lack of knowledge or experience, thanks again! Katrina
  9. I grew up very isolated and fundamentalist. I struggle with what's legalism vs just following the Bible. I know that we don't have to follow the law, and Christ died for us freeing us from the law. I tend to drift towards legalist churches (comfort in the known). I have been put off of a few churches because of a woman preacher..I was raised about women are silent in the churches. Just wondering what y'all think, thanks! Katrina
  10. Thanks to everyone for their imput, I appreciate it all! Pardon no personal responses, I have pink eye and my eyeballs hurt. Thanks again! Katrina
  11. I grew up with strict KJV, but I've been reading the NKJV for about 5 years. I have heard about the English Standard Version (ESV) and the Good News Bible. I read that ESV and Good News Bible paraphrase the Bible instead of the literal translation...is that okay? Thanks for your help! Katrina
  12. In my old fundie (fundamentalist) days, this was called "cherry picking" the Bible. We were supposed to follow all the commandments...but while avoiding pork we'd be wearing mixed fabrics... I am amazed how many denominations don't read Scripture...I quoted a verse about "David danced" and was told dancing wasn't allowed in the Bible so that verse wasn't in there... No person is perfect, no church is perfect...
  13. Why do some people fight against the idea of God, or that he exists? It seems almost to be an intense hatred sometimes... Can people like this find Salvation? Katrina
  14. Oh that is really neat! You must get to see the world! Thanks for the replies, I do appreciate it! Kat
  15. aw thanks so much! I appreciate it! Thank you for all the replies and insight, it is truly appreciated! Katrina
  16. I am looking forward to having friends in the faith! It is definitely something I've been praying for! thanks for sharing with me! I appreciate your reply, thanks! Katrina
  17. Thank you ! The modern world is too distracting. I know I can't avoid living in it but I try not to have it around me, if that makes sense. Just focus on good things, Godly things. I really appreciate all your responses and thanks so much! Katrina
  18. Thanks for this! It is a thing to remember! I need to spend more time in the New Testament as well! Katrina
  19. I had no idea about the classes for small talk lol! It makes sense though. For Americans it's just so easy to do chitchat! Oh yeah, no sauna time with the opposite sex. I wear a towel too! It's been great you've had experience with the Finns, and I appreciate your insight! Thanks! Katrina
  20. I appreciate your reply, thanks! It is comforting knowing I'm not alone in this! Katrina
  21. I have wondered the same thing...many of the women I've talked to can relate to my life story (married too young, oppression, etc). I should pray for that is what God wants for me! Thanks! Katrina
  22. Thanks! I would like to study to be a nurse maybe in Finland too...I am just sort of ??? at my life path at this moment I suppose. I am working to learn the language but feel like I am in a rut. True! I was telling my sister today that I get so melodramatic sometimes when I'm feeling bad it's just embarrassing. I do try and keep that in check. I am glad I can contact her online, that is always nice to hear her. The tower of babel observation is GOOD! I agree to that and thanks! I appreciate your reply! Katrina
  23. Thanks so much for the reply! I agree, it is hard for me to do discernment. My brain and my heart tend to go in opposite directions! You brought up a good point and my parents had said the same thing. I think the common bond is just being an immigrant, not the religious aspect. I'm not very good at reading social situations. I've been thinking more about the past situations... Thank you for the reply and for praying for me! Katrina
