  1. I just glanced through much of this discussion and it reminds me why I don't really care about how to properly describe Michael much less all the things that have arisen from it just as long as my Faith is in the One who died for MY sins and my life reflects it then God will reveal any of those things that He needs me to know. There's an old saying (I like old sayings) If you're rocking the boat, then you're sure making it hard on those who are trying to row! I don't like to rock the boat unless it's for something that might affect someone's Faith (or my own for that matter). Otherwise, I like to try and row as hard as I can.
  2. It's the Homeless Herbies that make this country great and give me hope when I see our leaders going off the rails!
  3. While I really don't understand the premise of the entire message (I'm slower than I used to be) I'll simply say "Amen!' to this quote.
  4. Wow, you just jumped right in and posted the whole thing! I picked a description that I found interesting but you didn't pick and choose, you went for the "Whole Enchilada". good show!
  5. I hit the link and read the article and it encapsulates the Archangel Michael pretty well in quite flowery terms such as "Michael the archangel is a strong angelic prince" that are unlike any I have heard before. I don't know about the prince thing but it sure is unique descriptive language.
  6. I'll paraphrase an old preacher that I once heard. He said If I were the only sinner in this whole wide world, Christ still would have died just the same just for me. It's kinda telling in that we tend to speak in broad terms when we say that Christ died for everyone, the entire world, and He did! But it's a little different when you realize that it's really personal. He died for me! It gives a whole new perspective to what Christ did just for us. The old song says, "I gave, I gave my life for thee, what hast thou given for me?" So, just be thankful that it was for you that he died and then go and give whatever you have for Him. Just remember after, He died for us , He also rose again and sits at the Father's right hand, so he's waiting to see what you're going to do with the sacrifice that He made.
  7. I agree that a "student of God's word" needs to be aware that some things in the Bible are literal and some are metaphorical or as you say figurative. (Even in the teachings of Christ) I just want to add that I believe that if a person studies the LITERAL teachings of Christ first and does them, then there's not so much to digest in the beginning. In Matthew 7:24 Christ says “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock". (Literal teaching) Only then can one ever begin to understand the more nuanced studies or commentaries or even the metaphorical references themselves.
  8. OK, that makes a little more sense, and I agree with you on that particular point. I just hate it when folks give Satan too much credit and ignore the fact that if we just walk a little closer with God we don't have to worry about Satan, certain leaders or "christs"other than the True Son of God, to be of any concern other than to point out their lies so that others won't be fooled either. (They're certainly no ones savior!)Matter of fact, I'd rather strengthen someones Faith so they can discern for themselves than have to point out every false teaching that exists in this world, it's much better that way.
  9. Now I'm really confused! I'm not confused about the topic but about whatever the question you have or the point you are trying to make or for that matter the hypothesis upon which you base either. So, if I don't agree with the basic principle that you outline in your original post, I doubt if I agree with whatever you are trying to say in defense of it.
  10. Yep, and they interpreted in to the "Kings English". That's all I said. I have studied original language translation (i.e. Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek) as well the "Kings English" vs. the common vernacular of the day, and there are relatively few important translation nuances that affect the real message compared with the majority which are pretty spot on. You are correct that many more modern translations are derived from the KJV, but what's your point?
  11. I beg to differ, while he is indeed deceiving many (even many Christians) don't say ALL. Never is a word I seldom use for good reason! Those who have Faith and let God run their lives according to His will, will see Satan for what he is every time. And NO, Satan is not the ruler, he's just running amok and deceiving a great many along the way until God (Who is the real Ruler!)puts a stop to all that at His appointed time!
  12. Everybody's talking 'bout something, you can hear them as the crowd passes by Some are talking 'bout their wealth and fortune, other's talking 'bout their trouble and strife Now, I can't even talk to a rich man, to compare I'm a beggar no doubt. But when you talk about that Old Time Religion, then I know what you're talking about When you talk about that Old Time Religion I know what you're talking about It's the kind that makes you want to love your neighbor even when old Satan says to cast him out. It's the kind that will comfort you in sorrow, It's the kind that makes you want to sing and shout So if you're talking 'bout that Old Time Religion, Then I know what you're talking about. I like to talk about the day that Jesus saved me, when my poor wretched soul was racked with pain I love to talk about the way that He's kept me, through the trials through the clouds and through the rain I love to talk about the Second coming, when I'll see my dear Savior in the clouds And if you're talking about that Old Time Religion, then I know what you're talking about. These are the words to a song on the video I posted called "sung from the heart" (shameless promotion: if you feel like a real 3 minute blessing check it out and now you have the words if you feel like singing along)
  13. I don't know about the movie but I do agree that when liars and False Teachers manage to convince enough people of their lies and gain political power it takes things to a whole different level. (It's been said that those who desire political power are most often those whom we should least trust to wield it). That said, we must also remain vigilant for the sneakier (Satan is a sneaky fellow) and perhaps less public ones that preach their lies with the "Jawbone of an Ass" from the pulpit.
  14. I quote it only because it's well known and you are correct in order to understand some of it requires a little knowledge of how the Royals spoke in 17th Century England. BTW, it is written in the King's English or the way that it was spoken in the Palace and not in common vernacular even of that day.
  15. My answer can also be found in the same Olivette Discourse. The chapter begins with the story of the widows mites! After that the disciples asked Christ about the end times " 7 And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass?" and what follows is Christ beginning His end time discourse this way, " 8 And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them. 9 But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by. Notice that the first thing He said is "take heed that ye be not deceived, for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them." Before He even began the discourse He warned of those who would say that the time draweth near and warned us not to follow them. Only with that disclaimer did Christ embark on the discussion which you reference out of context. from Verse 9 on, the rest of the Chapter references many things that will be interspersed with admonitions not to take too much from the happenings as God is in charge and will keep you in those days. Then in Verse 36 is the important teaching. 36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. So, point is that I agree, we are probably setting up some sort of future apocalypse with our misuse of the environment, we are probably setting off some similar catastrophe with Nuclear Proliferation, Ditto over fishing our oceans and destroying the rain forests over greed. As throughout history, we live in a world full of natural disasters, wars, terrorism, hatred and divisive rhetoric. The only difference is with modern communication technology everyone sees and hears everything that happens. But Christ taught us on many occasions that we are to busy ourselves with doing His work and spreading the Gospel and let God handle those things which will come upon the Earth. Now I do believe that we should do everything in our power to keep this Earth as livable for many future generations as possible just in case God's plan will leave them here but I don't worry because just before Christ spoke the words in Verse 36 he said: 34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. 35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. So I don't know if that snare will be environmental or Nuclear or maybe something we aren't even able to imagine ( a meteor, a BIG sun flare, the reversal of the magnetic poles or the eruption of the super volcano that's said to be bubbling under Yellowstone which triggers an earthquake so large that it causes half of California to fall into the ocean causing tidal waves so large that they destroy a big part of Asia and then the energy that comes from all the upheaval triggers Nuclear meltdowns around the world while the remaining people die a slow and agonizing death due to the famine caused by the ash cloud created by the Volcano and disease from the Nuclear meltdown) but I know that the only thing that matters is that Christ said to take heed so that the day doesn't come upon us unawares. He told us what to take heed of (false teachers) and what to do in the meantime (see the lesson of the widow's mite at the beginning of the Chapter) so whatever happens, I believe that we as Christians are better served DOING what Christ taught than trying to figure out His perspective on the current environmental crisis.
  16. My KJV says, "Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken".
  17. I know the feeling of this choir leader and I applaud his loving patience. Reminds me of a time that a friend and I got roped into teaching a shaped note singing seminar at the last moment as the person who had signed up to present it had a last minute emergency. Readers Digest version, we started the 2 hour seminar with a church full of Jailhouse Singers (that's one that's behind a few bars and hasn't got the key) (they were there with hopes of learning) and after about an hour or so of frustration thinking that it was never going to work, we switched gears (from the program that was already printed before we took on the task) and presented a song that every one knew and instead of concentrating on the notes we emphasized singing from your heart and let God take care of the notes because we sensed that the problem was mostly fear. (Many people have a fear of singing in public, just as with speaking) Somewhere soon thereafter you could feel the Spirit begin to move and one by one the voices began to soar til at the end they sang a praiseworthy "Amazing Grace" that rivaled the best of choirs. God does move in mysterious ways. Praise His Holy Name!
  18. Check it out to the end and watch as young Matthew is filled with the Spirit right in the middle of his singing debut. Just another voice in training for the Angel Band.
