Reconciling 6 Days with 13.7 Billion Years

There is plenty of experimentation of the speed of light. I'm not sure what you are referring to the speed of the medium. The common velocity of light is of course based on a vacuum. Velocity of light is not dependent on the velocity of the emitting body. Assuming a pressure wave behaves the same as light is problematic. That's circular reasoning followed by interpretative speculation. Sure, these are assumptions, but as the observations made confirm the assumption of constancy, that only strengthens the underlying assumption. Also, there is other evidence of space expanding, in fact, expanding at a far greater rate than originally predicted. You can't just start messing around with the velocity of light as that will have some profound implications in lots of other areas. As for having an open mind, it's good to have a screen to keep the bugs out. -
Fires are definitely still burning, but the amount of smoke is not too bad at the moment. I think there was some rain that knocked it down.
-
There has been surprisingly little smoke so far, due to the winds I presume. It was really bad when we were going the other way about a week ago.
-
I can give you an update from BC in a bit. We'll be driving through smoke and close to several major fires in the BC interior during much of today.

How so? There is some historical precedent from the Roman times, specifically the Caesar cult.
-
Is it this what you are referring to? It was Facebook, but seemed to match your recollection.

Who are saying these things? Can you verify their identities? I am aware of the panspermia idea, but it is certainly not the only idea of how life arose on earth. -
Can you clarify this point? Who or what says men were created to mine gold?

This is full of assertions that are neither supported by Scripture or by the evidence of the physical world. -
What if the mark already happened in the time immediately when John wrote these things to the churches?

That did not answer the question, but I figured it out... Jesus People Movement.

Good answer. Placer mining is still very prevalent in many parts of the world, particularly Africa. Gold, tin and cobalt is still commonly "mined" this way. Diamonds and other gemstones are also still found this way, although all these can also be found in primary sources as well. Primary or lode mining would have focused on visible gold and very rich ores that could be processed by basic smelting techniques. For the most part, the copper we mine now were never in the reach of the ancients. Most modern open-pit copper deposits will grade about 0.5% per tonne of rock and requires special chemical processes to extract the copper from the sulphide ores.

Time dilation is part of Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity which also includes mass and length components for objects traveling at relativistic speeds. Mass of an object will increase as you approach the speed of light, hence the need for massive powerful machines to push particles in accelerators. Time dilates for the object in motion. It does not change because of the distance from the earth. -

Thunderstorms supposed to run through northern BC again. Already very bad fire season. Just not enough rain with it. -

The earth is in fact several billions years old because multiple lines of evidence are telling us that. Reading a Bronze age religious text as a modern scientific text is completely irresponsible. It is falling into the trap of viewing in through our lens of Modernity. Biological evolution is a legitimate scientific theory. Even YEC biologists accept that fact. They may disagree with it, as you are free to do. Haha. There is a lot all right - a lot of BS. Ken Ham is legalist and, I dare say, a heretic. I'd also argue that AiG is becoming a cult. Do not go to them for advice in this matter. They lie and obfuscate and are quite literally uninterested in the truth. -
It's quite close to Cairo.

Exactly. This is the cultic line of thought that Ken Ham at Answers in Genesis has fully embraced. They are even attacking other YEC adherents for not being "pure" enough in his eyes. -

I'm not convinced of that at all. Just pointing out where the idea of a wasteland and recreation comes from. -

I mentioned in a previous post that ruin-reconstruction is often tied to Enoch, dealing with the rebellion of Azazel and the angels which laid waste to the earth. This is supposed to have happened between 1:1 and 1:2. Then the creation narrative from 1:2 onward is the reconstruction of the current created order. -
I love dogs but I could not imagine having to deal with that daily. Our dog only talks a bit around dinnertime.

I understand that Gap theory, or ruin-reconstruction, is based on text from Enoch, which is generally not considered canon, although many here do espouse certain aspects, like the Watchers. In Enoch is the story of rebellion of the angels, and this therefore laid waste to the earth prior to the "modern" creation. Just to be clear, I don't subscribe to this at all as an historical retelling of the physical creation of the earth. I could accept it as part of the prevailing Hebrew cosmology and mythology. The concept of a new creation from the waste of a cosmic battle is clearly demonstrated in the relatively contemporary Enuma Elish, where Marduk creates the earth and humans from the remains of Tiamat, even the seas of chaos are referred to. There are also parallels in the Egyptian cosmologies, which makes a lot of sense based on the history and location of the Hebrews.
