  1. I'd be hard pressed to name anyone closer to the Lord than Abraham and Moses - and the first had to wait 25 years for the fulfillment of the Lord's promise to him of a son, while the second spent 40 years out in the backside of nowhere from the time he fled Egypt till the Lord spoke to him from the burning bush and sent him back there - and then a second 40 years leading the Lord's people round and round in the wilderness waiting for the unbelieving generation to die off. So I don't see that closeness to God automatically means quick answers to prayer.
  2. Also, as someone mentioned earlier, some women cannot nurse their babies under a blanket. My babies would always get furious, flail at the blanket to get it off, and just generally create a huge scene - so I learned quickly not to bother. On the other hand, I choose clothing that was loose-fitting and easy to nurse in so that I was well-covered and discrete. I dare say the reason most of the complaints about breastfeeding in public claim the woman was 'showing' so much, is because most moms are so successful at being discrete that no one realized she was nursing to raise a stink about it. One more thing - my late husband and his best friend worked as missionaries in rural Mexico for a long time, and told me that down there, the women just nurse their babies in public, particularly in church, and no one says a thing about it. It's a cultural thing.
  3. Some moms don't use formula out of necessity. All my babies had severe food allergies - think changing the diaper and finding the skin under there is weeping blood. And the baby screaming in pain. They were allergic to various combinations of proteins: milk, eggs, beans/peas, nuts - and a couple of them were allergic to starches: rice and potatoes. How can you use a formula with a baby with such allergies? Most formulas are made of milk or soy, and if the baby can't tolerate milk or soy, what are you going to do? I nursed my babies exclusively, and just made sure to be careful of my own diet to avoid the foods each particular baby reacted to. For that matter, it's very easy to say, 'Oh, she should just pump and use a bottle in public.' But some moms can't pump; I could never get anything but a few drops of milk when I tried. Anyway, the Lord gave mommas the means to feed their own babies - there weren't no bottle bushes in Eden. If God is ok with breastfeeding, then where do people get off acting like it's evil???
  4. My score was... 11 of 12. But it gets better! As I was taking the quiz, I marked one of the answers, then reconsidered my answer before going on, and changed the answer. So guess which question I got wrong... Once again,
  5. I agree with ladypeartree; don't have a problem with them using the heat in this way. My beloved late husband was cremated; I would not have minded the heat being 'recycled' in some fashion.
  6. I always assumed the Egyptians had bought more livestock after the first ones died. Would have had to either buy it from the Hebrews or else import them - either seems quite possible to me.
  7. Here's what I don't understand. If the purpose of the dress code, as stated, is to make the employees look professional and competent, then why on earth would the specified color of underwear be skin-toned? It would seem to me that that would be the one color that would be forbidden. After all, in the unlikely case of a customer catching a glimpse of an employee's underthings, the skin-tone would give the impression the employee was 'going commando' - and that (to me at least) would mark the employee as being unprofessional in the extreme. Or am I weird? or overthinking this?
  8. I'm surprised he would name the book The Grand Design, since the word design simply cries out (to me, at least) that a design has a designer.
  9. What's funny about this to me is that I've known this for years - so many years that I'm having trouble remembering how I came to know it. I strongly suspect I must have learned about the misalignment through the precession of the equinoxes back when I took an Astronomy course during my brief college career in the late 70's. Btw, how is 10 degrees one-twelfth of the way around? Shouldn't all the way around be 360 degrees, so one-twelfth of the way around would be 30 degrees? (Mathematical minds want to know!)
  10. So how did everyone do on their 'Worthy fast' eh? I thought at first that it was a problem with my dial-up. Glad to see all of y'all again!
  11. It is for very good reason that the Bible says: Prov 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. 'Keep' means 'guard' - like a fortress! Guard your heart carefully, and don't just give it away lightly.
  12. The Take Back 20 thing was what popped up on what other news sites/blogs were reporting. Unrelated though. A little more about the alleged shooter. I'm bolding what stood out. Going through the videos, I think? (It's hard ot tell) he thinks the government is controlling people through literacy rates, or something. A lot of the stuff in his videos is written in the past tense. He's trying to drop a hint there. No 'Catcher in The Rye'? He's just nuts. No sense looking for depth in a puddle. Huh? Why did you bold the Alice books and Phantom Toll Booth? I don't recall these charming children's books to have any violence in them. How are they dangerous or subversive?
  13. Adam couldn't have been the anointed cherub that covered; men are not angels. Edited to add: Wow, y'all posted a lot more during the time I was finding the post I wanted to comment on. Let me now add that cherubs are NOT the little baby-things you find on Valentine cards. Ezekiel describes them as follows: Eze 1:5 Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man. 6 And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings. 7 And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf's foot: and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass. 8 And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings. 9 Their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward. 10 As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle. 11 Thus were their faces: and their wings were stretched upward; two wings of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies. 12 And they went every one straight forward: whither the spirit was to go, they went; and they turned not when they went. 13 As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning. 14 And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning. And later he says: Eze 10:20 This is the living creature that I saw under the God of Israel by the river of Chebar; and I knew that they were the cherubims.
  14. As I recall, my late husband used this on his business cards: Col 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
  15. She must really like angering a momma grizzly. Or else she's hoping for a ratings boost, like Letterman.
  16. You know, it occurs to me, about the two men from the first chapter of Acts who speak to the disciples after Jesus had just gone up to heaven - if these two men are, not angels as is usually stated, but from among the group of saints who were raised when Jesus was raised, a group who, according to what has been put forth in this thread, had just gone up to heaven with Jesus - then poor guys! They just got left behind!
  17. Oops. Messed up. Read what I was trying to post below.
  18. Joe snagged mine: I also thought of this: Psa 66:10 For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried. 11 Thou broughtest us into the net; thou laidst affliction upon our loins. 12 Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place. Which is not exactly what you were asking for, but may explain the goal the Lord has in mind for some of this stuff you're going through. There's also this: Jer 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Hope that's a help.
  19. One thing I've noticed about prayer is it can change me. Sometimes as I pray, I find my attitude in what I'm praying about gets changed, to bring me in line with the way God would want me to be. If that makes sense?
  20. Hunterpoet, is this what you had in mind? Matt 5:23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; 24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
  21. Paul has this to say: Romans 9:10 And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac; 11 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;) 12 It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. 13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
  22. Couple of things. Concerning the Nazarite vow, there is this in the Book of Acts, where four men who were apparently Jewish Christians had apparently taken the Nazarite vow (since they would end the vow by shaving their heads): Acts 21:23 Do therefore this that we say to thee: We have four men which have a vow on them; 24 Them take, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges with them, that they may shave their heads: and all may know that those things, whereof they were informed concerning thee, are nothing; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, and keepest the law. 25 As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication. 26 Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with them entered into the temple, to signify the accomplishment of the days of purification, until that an offering should be offered for every one of them. And the other thing, about men and dresses - men of old wore robes, which certainly look a lot like dresses. How do you tell the difference?
  23. Um... why are there quote marks around the word husband?
